Noob opinion incoming.

But, wouldn’t a good deck to deal with Eldrazi be a type of Control deck? Eldrazi is pretty much a (really fast) midrange decks, playing those big minions quickly and for absurd value and plays pretty much no non-creature spells outside of Dismember and the sided in Gut Shots. There were also plenty of times that you see the Eldrazi decks forced into passivity or top deck scenarios. Taking out Thought-Seers before they can pick apart your hand also seems like it would be good. I was relatively enamored with Jason Chung’s Blue Moon deck at the PT and it barely missed top cut.

But then again, noob opinions. It might just be too fast due to Eye of Ugin and Eldrazi Temple.

Does worship even matter when the deck can kill on t3?

Like it seems anything anyone says might work is spiking, even if it’s illogical.

Also if nodes dies, who cares? that means that turn they didn’t cast like 2-3 eldrazi and it lets you play something else that will impact the board, maybe even another nodes.

Worship was a deck. It uses Troll Aesthetic / Thrun to just not lose. It’s generally a Bant deck that ramps into it and runs Geist + Swords. Thought-Knot Seer could take Worship out of your hand as well and Eldrazi can kill you before you have four mana sometimes.

well i guess you dont need ulamog, since its a legendary land, while you can have all 4 Eldrazi Temples out, i think Eldrazi Temple will get banned.

I think that it’ll be hard to find a single card to solve the match-up, but it’s not something that can’t be fixed by overhauling the list. BG/x lists were badly positioned against Eldrazi because they were running max Inquisitions and 0-2 Thoughtseize (to help against burn), started to cut one or two Abrupt Decays (to help vs Grixis), and topped out at Siege Rhino (to help against burn again).

If they started to run Thoughtseize again, maxed out on Abrupt Decays, had a 4-drop that beats Reality Smasher, ran max Lingering Souls to block Affinity and ran Paths they could be very well-positioned against Eldrazi, Infect and Affinity (at the expense of being somewhat worse against Burn pre-board). After that you can just run 2-3 Worships in the board to fix the burn match-up. Even Jund has stuff like Blood Moon.

Uh Worship has been used since 1999 my man lol. You kids sometimes. Worship would make my top 40 all time favorite cards… But once its resolves against Eldrazi and even Affinity just lose to it. It was why it was in my initial prison version. I’m just happy I’m getting a frrrreeeeeeeeee 30$ for nothing more than pulling a trigger a little to early.

**So on a side note @thiswholethread … What are you favorite all-time lands? Like its one of those things that comes up a lot. Like some people love to have new set off art and ok I can get that mid 90’s feel. Others its for art , others for when they started. IDK was listening to a stream and it got me to thinking. Like I know my all time favorite and what I use and why.

Island - Mercadian Masques sideways is my all time favorite since the day it came out. 1996 arena my 2nd favorite use in Legacy storm to match swamp to match set cause the MM swamps is fucking ugz plus dem loch ness pics doh
Swamp - Urza’s saga and 1996 Arena
Plains - Ice Age and odyssey 333(so fucking smexy)
Mountain - Urza’s saga with mountain and pink in background and unglued.
Forest - ok so I realized I don’t use forest but Ice age version makes me remember 7th grade middle school when I started playing with my friends “green deck”, that’s my nostalgia land I guess the one that makes us “true” and I emphasize that cause some nigga who is 24 saying they been playing since alpha annoys me (like its ok if you started in whatever set but I started 3-4 years after the game I can tell ya not that many people played and none where 3 years old) us true old school guys get a feeling with older cards that take you back to over half your life ago. Like when I see a Phyrexian dreadnought(don’t know why this card) for that small moment I’m 14 and its the smallest of time capsules its a feeling I wish other people could understand.**

Because if it only kills one creature or you played it into an empty board, you are either running a shitty path to exile or shitty holiday. So if you’re gonna run a shitty version of a card, you might as well maximize its use. If you arent, then you’re just running a shitty version of a card for the sake of being a contrarian.

Affinity still has the Infect back-up plan to fall back on.

that’s why I scrapped it but really outside the infect rout it was a free win once resolved and if your deck could handle the inkmoth with bolt/halo/path etc it wasn’t terrible at all whatsoever. Its how you upgrade sideboard cards to be playable or not. It destroys eldrazi and can come in vs affinty and burn and zoo etc… you know the most popular decks in the ass format known as modern. Its why its at 17$ and rising.

but what do I know I play Legacy and Vintage all day lol.

I’m saying the downside is you eat their turn minus the land drop, the upside is obviously higher as it can kill multiple creatures. It’s a little better vs. chalice as well.

If the solution to every creature problem was to just play path then there wouldn’t even be a discussion. People would just jam path into every deck that could support it and everything would be solved.

by the by the RW prison deck is making a bit of a comeback to counter eldrazi and some lists are playing nodes. a curve of like flagstones+nodes > boom hitting their temple/eye > ghostly prison seems pretty good.

but yeah whatever just talking out of my ass here and clearly just don’t understand the game.

If you’re gonna get all butthurt when somebody points out the flaw in just randomly naming cards then stick to the SF4 subforums.

Porphyry Nodes needs support to work, you can’t just throw that shit out there. If you’re just gonna post a card with no context, invariably other things are going to be better than it in a lot of situations. Did it occur to you that nodes is terrible against a lot of decks in the metagame. People are tripping balls over Eldrazi because they’ve been watching it wreck face. Unfortunately not every match is going to be eldrazi nonsense. Nodes excels with a bunch of support. On top of that, nodes by itself won’t do much against a deck that can pump 1/1s or has random small creatures to feed it while hitting you with the beefy ones.

But then where are you inserting nodes into? Out of all the decks sporting white, it could potentially go into one. It goes into that one solely because it plays a role that other cards can’t. Invariably all other decks need to get shit out of there as opposed to dick around on untargeted removal that won’t hit what they want to hit. You want to start looking at goofy things? Shriekmaw can put in work against the eldrazi deck. Shriekmaw with Kolaghan’s command to get it back is doing long term work.

Not every card is going to work. But if you’re going to look at cards for the Eldrazi deck, you need to look at things that are semi-flexible or provide a long term advantage. Just saying Nodes against decks that have demonstrated that: 1) they can chalice for 1 and easily ruin that gameplay, 2) back up chalice with ratchet bomb or 3) put scions and laugh their way to the bank, isn’t anything to write home about.

So maybe a bit of A and a bit of B.

I named a card, that wasn’t on that gigantic list posted above.

My solution to the meta is to play eldrazi until they ban it tbh.

I was playing competitive magic before i even touched fighting games if you want to talk to me like i’m a fighting game player.

(Not of This World shouldn’t really go up in price.)

None of the new non-legendary Eldrazi except for maybe Endless One have over 7 or more power. Stubborn Denial will suffice for the Eldrazi decks that want to play counterspells since they’ll just be playing Blue anyway.

I like my green ramp deck against Eldrazi. chameleon colossus doesn’t care for dismember and is able o race anything from eldrazi, and Acidic slime seems really well positioned. i’m trying to put together an optimized list, but right now I’m focusing on standard for game day.

(Ugh. Not sure why I had “new Eldrazi” twice in that last post. Edited.)

Yes, that’s the Worship we’re talking about. Before Twin’s and Bloom’s weakening via banning and Oath of the Gatewatch, it was actually pretty well-positioned against the rest of Modern metagame as the Troll Worship videos over at MTGGoldfish show(ed): http://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-84-65-tix-modern-troll-worship.

@BR3N7 On the previous discussion, I know Worship has been around forever I’m just saying there is a current deck in the Modern Meta that uses it. It’s not a high % but it has been a niche tournament deck for a while. Troll Worship, there would be a thread on Salvation somewhere.

On the other question you asked, I always use the Kamigawa lands, they look pretty sweet.

I’ve always been fond of the fairy taleish lands from Lorwyn, especially the plains.

It seems spoilers for Shadows ove innistrad have started - http://mythicspoiler.com/

For now, lightning axe is reprinted

These sets are coming too fast. I barely had time to check Oath, and now a new set is on the roll.

It does feel faster because they’re coming in pairs but the spacing between releases is the same as always. Looking over some of the new spoilers Madness from Torment is making a return and the new Delirium mechanic looks interesting. I’m liking the theme I’m seeing with the cards with the puzzle pieces and clues, the story should be cool.

Pieces of the Puzzle looks really interesting.
