China does seem to handle HK protests slightly more gingerly than they do ā€œinternalā€ ones.

Guessing that the communist party will soften their stance slightly as a token compromise, and quietly disappear the protest organizers after the fact.

Hong Kong is a different beast kn the world stage. If war ever started in China with outside aggression towards it, they peobably thibk it would come from mishandling Hong Kong.

Although at some point the Party is going to get tired of handling them with kidā€™s gloves.

I think that the issue of establishing who is in control may be too important to back off of from a leadership perspective unlike most token issues protests are effective for. Given a position of power it is doubtful China will continue twiddling its thumbs if it escalates.

Sanctions will no doubt follow, but they will be meaningless. The migration crisis and political unrest in the U.K. and France will keep Germany from committing to anything worthwhile and the U.S. sure as hell will not get involved given its current administration.

My sister just sent me a video of my nephew discovering the joys of making music with pots and pans. It makes me smile.

Not exactly this but same energy.
