Yellow jackets used to give me hell at work when I used to work the river in Northern Alabama. One of them fuckers stung me in the neck, had trouble sleeping for like 3 days. Got stung twice, felt like a hot needle

The last time I got stung I was in my late teens. It was in my hand and up to my wrist was swollen for almost 2 weeks.

Thankfully it wasn’t my dominate hand. The only reason I was really pissed is because I missed so many meet ups while my hand was looking like an inflated medical glove

Unfortunately, my annual battles with the carpenter bees has already begun. I really would erase them all from existence if I had the opportunity to, like Infinity Gauntlet-snap them away. The males apparently DON’T sting, but I dare anyone to be ā€œokā€ and perfectly calm with a giant ā€œblack bumblebeeā€ looking bastard just hovering in the air, and trying to get in your face the moment you walk into what they consider ā€œtheirā€ territory…and they can go from hovering perfectly still to zipping around SUPER fast, btw. This is yet more proof that Mother Nature is an asshole.

There was so much satisfaction last year when I watched as the pest control dude sprayed whatever that poisonous mixture is onto mailbox post (one of their favorite spots) and I could actually see a couple of them fall instantly…never to get up again.

I also cleared off the beginnings of a wasp nest over the weekend…did the usual safe route—wait until night then sprayed wasp/bee/hornet spray… in the morning that 1 wasp that was building it was dead on the ground, and I was able to safely knock the ā€œstartupā€ nest down.

Unfortunately, there’s no official news report of them here in Texas.

I’m only able to go by word from a family member who just had contact with them. Its from a cousin, who’s a truck driver.

He stated that he was hitting these things in Kansas, Oklahoma, and west Texas.

Oh Jesus. I’m really hoping that they don’t like desert climates. I don’t need no fucking kaiju bees coming to my house.

They can stay their asses in west Texas, and leave the Brazos Valley and the rest of TX the fuck alone!!

@chadouken @Pertho and anyone else in west Texas: Y’all better have some top quality insecticide and body armor!!

Been reading up on them, and they prefer low-altitude forests. I’m at 3900 ft amsl, so I don’t think they’re really looking to migrate out here or in West Texas. How sure is your cousin that what he saw were the kaiju hornets? There are a lot of other large insects out there.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/05/02/us/asian-giant-hornet-washington.amp.html

This NYT article (sorry of it was posted here already) says that a genetic examination of two different specimens of the hornet found in two different locations in WA determined they were not from the same place. Meaning that there had been at least two different introductions to the region.

These things were fucking brought here on purpose.
