I hate Freya Mikaelson so much. Everytime somebody calls her on her shit she tried to justify and flip it around. The first Mikaelson I actively dislike

See now this white nonsense is out of hand

No, this is the future almost all FGC mouthpieces wanted.

I just saw that MKL thing pop up on Plex. What is that all about?

I’m only about 30 minutes into it but from what I’ve seen it’s more-or-less a retelling of the first live action movie with some more lore from the games and some retcons scattered throughout

Sad thing is his stands will call you out as a racist if you try to call Pewdiepie what he is.

Didn’t even make the SRK front page.

So yeah. It was basically a retelling of the first live action mortal Kombat movie

Pros:

  • The opening prologue is one of the best parts. Some of the animation transitions are smooth as butter
  • Joel McHale is fantastic as Johnny. He was kind of the Deadpool without being Deadpool. He’d make jokes or say phrases that would be nods and winks at the video games. He is easily the best part of the movie imo
  • Lots of fun but easy to miss cameo’s during the pre-tournament banquet hall scene
  • Voice cast was pretty solid. Johnny, Sonya and Raiden probably had my favorite voices.
  • Sonya and Johnny falling for each other was very much like the classic but with an interesting twist (this was the best part of the movie for me. Very funny)

cons

  • Pretty much every character but Johnny Cage, Sonya and Scorpian felt like an after thought. Even Raiden, Liu and the antagonists
  • Kitana is in the movie but serves next to no purpose except sequel bait.
  • One of the major plots require some knowledge of the franchise as a whole. So new comers may miss crucial things which might alienate them. The biggest example is They never explain why Quan Chi frames Sub-Zero for the massacre of Scorpions clan. Or even why he wanted Sub-Zero dead. They also never explain or even hint that Scorpions and later Quan Chi’s McGuffin is Shinnok’s amulet. The entire time they just refer it to a “key” that can unlock ones desires.
  • Outside of the prologue and the final fight the fights were very short. Animated well enough but way too short. Which is a shame cause a lot of the characters had much needed polish on current designs. So I would have like to have seen them more.
  • The animation quality and character designs are super hit and miss. Again, Johnny, Sonya and Scorpion were the stand outs. Goro too. Quan Chi was the absolute worst design. He looked like a fucking idiot in every scene. Like Skull Master from Mighty Max with downs.
  • When bones broke or someone died they constantly did the X-Ray or Crucial Blow or whatever it’s called style animation for it. It was honestly extremely annoying and distracted me from the scenes a lot

Overall: very high 6 or Barely 7

This has been @Dangerous_J signing off

  • PS. My hard cider I had in the picture was delicious
