Well in most western countries we punish such behavior as beating a wife. The stats is probably from all those countries that keep women under a more harsher set or rules like the middle east. If we really want to strive for more equal options those countries need to get updated to a more modern mindset instead of shielding themselves behind archaic beliefs.
Having said that, it will get ugly first if we push for this more in said locations.
