I don’t even remember how I can across them. I think it’s because I watch a lot of j-pop, k-pop, j-Ska and visual kei (Japanese hair Metal basically. Though it’s evolved over the years to more of an emo sound) on YouTube and it ended up in my feed. It was their first single “Gimme Chocolate”
I was immediately hooked. The sound was awesome, their presence was great, the girls were adorable and it was just fun to listen to. I’ve followed them ever since. Even bought their “Origin Story” manga. Which is actually pretty solid.
I’ve seen them twice in Seattle, once by themselves and once at a music festival and once here in Arkansas. Here In Arkansas they opened for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Arkansas crowd has no fucking idea what to think of them. It was hilariously awkward.

i watched this documentary on netflix “Behind The Curve”. it’s about flat earthers. here is a couple of scenes from the movie which encapsulates the behavior some of the people in that thread. both of the men in the video are flat earthers who decided to use science to prove the earth is not the shape science has proven it to be only to end up proving the earth is shape science has proven it to be. their reactions are informative and priceless. inject that shit in my veins.

are they conservative? i see some people claiming to be conservatives or give their hot take on conservatism (in fact, they excel at hot takes), but most of those clowns i came across in that thread don’t have a clue nor could spell it on wheel of fortune if you spotted them c-o-n-s-e-r-v-a-t-i-v.
i wasn’t there from the beginning. so, i don’t know about the intention of the thread. in any case, you have to have reasonable people to have reasonable discourse or a good faith argument. some people could do that. OTOH, it was obvious to me that others were on some other shit. for example, if one found themselves taking certain posters seriously or gave them the benefit of the doubt. odds are, one was actually talking to an ill-informed, bat shit crazy clown full of hot takes.
and by certain posters i mean, shinjigohan, pedoviejo, dodgers, wasted, starhammer, parry all, shaft agent, dime, truendymion, and probably some others i’m forgetting.
There have been studies that show educated people are more liberal than conservative.

The thread was never meant to be serious. The options were to give GD a place to let all that air out or have it spill to a million threads. The rules were there so I could contain some of the crazy and show that it was being looked at regularly in case people above my paygrade went looking.
If you’ve watched the wire, that thread was basically Hamsterdam.
At no point did I ever think people would go in there thinking that they were going to get a good discussion. Much less when Hillary and Trump became candidates.
So no, at no point did I have any hope for that thread. It was a containment thread and I refered to it as such multiple times before the nominations were clinched. I even said that once Trump got the nom, in that thread, that all hope for any type of policy discussion was over.
People went in there and played themselves. Then they got mad and constantly went over my head because of it. No retcon needed.

the scientists in the film reminded me of preppy. they had this school of thought that as scientists they shouldn’t look down on these people who were not very science literate. scientists should instead try to engage and help these people. there is merit in that school of thought and it’s an admirable trait.
OTOH, dunning–Kruger, confirmation bias, motivated ignorance, etc is in full effect with these people. furthermore, they don’t want help for a host of reasons. these people don’t want to know or believe the math and science behind the shape of the earth. which is fine because i have neither the time nor inclination to try and reason with these weirdos. that’s a losers game. the fuck i look like? a shrink? i’ll clown on them in a hot minute though, but that’s just me…
