The Legend of Zelda thread - Ganon's bodyshop will be open for business on Nov. 20th

I was thinking about double dipping on BotW + DLC. Those vids made it hard to resist, but I’ll stay strong. Need to get back on that PS4 backlog.

I hear the Kirby death music while watching that.

Piggyback publishing is releasing another hard cover guide for botw for those interested. This is like their initial one but it covers all the dlc and they put more detail, strategies etc…into this guide.

No new news on anything Zelda related really.

Came from the comic book store and they had the Zelda Encyclopedia there and picked it up with my stuff. This book is nice! It’s going to take me awhile to read through this thing and it’s extremely thorough. The only thing I can say I can that is slightly disappointing is it doesn’t have anything (that I’ve read so far which is page 37 out of 327) pertaining to BotW. I’m guessing that’s because they didn’t want to have any spoilers for the game since this was released prior to the game coming out. Would have been nice to have more insight on where BotW fits in the lore.

Would have been kind of interesting if they had a section that touched on Hyrule Warriors despite it being non canon but doesn’t look like this will.

Im pretty sure Nintendo doesn’t know where BOTW fits in the lore, every time Aounuma talks about the game and its lore abd timeline hes crazy vague and just says stuff like “It takes place a really long time after the other ones.”

Also finished basically all the story stuff for BOTW except for the dlc stuff.

What you think of the game so far?

i love it. I think its fantastic. The world Nintendo has built here is amazing and a joy to explore. I love the climbing. Its going to be really really hard going back to other open world games after this, the freedom in this game is a big move forward for these types of games to imo.

I love the combat. Its so engaging, i really look forward to fights in this game unlike the other 3D Zelda games. I even like the weapon durability system, when you as a player start working with it instead of against it you find its a major boon to the player and the options they have in combat. Like shit i used a spear on a Lizalfos till it almost broke, threw it at the mofo, scooped up his boomerang and threw it at him for the kill. Was swag. Everyone who complained about the durability system is wrong.

Also really like the story and world. Game has probably my favorite Zelda in it, and Hyrule feels like it has so much rich history in this game. Dude when i found my first Goddess Fountain from Skyward Sword…Or the way it feels like an amalgamation of multiple games Hyrules into one big world. Keep finding places that remind of something from Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess, even the road to Zora’s Domain reminded me of the approach to the same place in OOT.

Game really feels like a combination of like…30 years of series history and development.

I guess the only places they dropped the ball would be a bit more meat to the story, and real legit dungeons. The Dungeon thing doesnt bother me much as exploring the over world and interacting with the denizens of Hyrule are my favorite parts of Zelda games. I would have liked a bit more to the story more. More scenes of the Champions and a few more of Link and Zelda just…being. The memory of them and the frog is great. The other thing is i would say the game needed more locations like Hyrule Castle.

Im loving it dude, its competing incredibly hard for the #1 spot over Majora’s Mask.

They’re coming out with another book just about BOTW in November. It’s called Creating A Champion and will be 424 pages long. Already got a copy on pre-order.

It’s been over a year since my last post here.
I found this post today on gamefaqs and this guy better articulates his points better than me.

Breath of the Wild however is not a Zelda game now way, no how. The developers said it is based on Zelda 1 but no there is a huge flaw in that argument. Zelda 1 did have an open world but the meat of the game was still going into dungeons and finding items to use in the overworld, NOT RUNNING AROUND LOOKING FOR SHRINES, ASSASSIN CREED TOWERS, AND MINI 10 MINUTE DUNGEONS.

Here is a list of missing Zelda elements from this game:

  1. Heart Pieces rewards for exploring/sidequests
  2. Magic Bar
  3. Empty Bottles
  4. Wallets
  5. Actual Dungeons
  6. Story in present time ( You know to CARE ABOUT)
  7. Strong Atmosphere
  8. Ganondorf’s human form with backstory and intelligence, not a mindless beast
  9. Items found in dungeons to open up the overworld ( BoTW only has 4 items and only 2 are really useful. No hookshot is a sin )
  10. Multiple bosses and mini-bosses that match the atmosphere of their dungeon, not a repeat of Ganon’s worst incarination yet
  11. Multiple missing enemies from previous Zeldas
  12. Weapons that don’t break during combat
  13. Musical Intrusment heavily tied to gameplay (Tbh Twilight Princess really needed one too it only had Wolf Link songs)
  14. A companion to help you on your quest ( Navi, Tattl, Midna, King of Red Lions )

All this and so much more is why I absolutely hated BotW.

Not liking the game is all fine and dandy. However, regardless of what you or whatever guy’s opinion you bring in here from elsewhere, the game is still a Zelda game.

Some of those reasons in that list are arbitrary and dumb as shit. No magic meter? Really? This is what helps to make it not a Zelda game? Guess the first Zelda title ain’t a Zelda game either.

I’m not even gonna break down why some of the other reasons are dumb.

Just say you don’t like the game and drop it. It’s perfectly fine to not like a game. Trying to say the game ain’t Zelda though is going way too far.

This proves that this is the GOAT Zelda and always will be, until the next one.

And you sad the stupidest thing I seen in SRK in a long time, long time.

Summary
  1. You still have to earn hearts
  2. The first Zelda game (and a few others) didn’t have a Magic Meter ether.
  3. No Empty Bottles? Who cares BOTW made it redundant.
  4. I hated when wallets became a thing with the N64 game
  5. Define Dungeon, i’ll wait. Also note BOTW has more Dungeons than Majora’s Mask
  6. The Time Line was a Mistake, it should never been made.
  7. Overly subjective
  8. Ganon was a beast in more than half the series.
  9. No one cares for Key/barrier items in a Open World game
  10. Also overly subjective
  11. All the core/classic monsters/enemies are there including some that haven’t been seen in a long time.
  12. GIT GUD SCRUB
  13. Musical Instruments are stupid, Half the series don’t have Instruments that OoT and MM has anyways
  14. And Companions can be annoying (especially Navi).

Sounds like you only played Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask and Wind Waker

The Adventure of Link >>>>>>>>> BotW, 'doe.

Truth-fact. :coffee:

Also truth-fact:

Breath of the Wild is very much almost every bit as much of a cromulent Zelda game as Zelda CD-I.

Wow…we’re bringing the Zelda CD-i games into this? ok…yeah I’m done.
