Yeah… I’m probably going to be bowing out of this thread soon. It may be quite some time until I actually play the game, but I don’t want anything influencing my expectations when I get my hands on it. I learned my lesson from Twilight Princess. Plus, I want to replay MM, WW, and TP, just to get my Zelda bearings again. I’m glad my excitement for this game has grown considerably since it was first announced.
Just take reviews as guidelines. I’m expecting this game to be great even without reviews at least 9.0-9.5 range and I’m expecting the game to at least get nominated for GOTY based off of everything I’ve heard so far. That’s enough for me.

I love how it has the look of a 3D Link to the Past. The art style is spot on to match that game’s environments.
I also dig how a lot of the areas in the game are named after areas from Twilight Princess. Instead of the same old re-used names for zones.
Yeah, I’m expecting a similar outcome, but there’s no doubt that the reviews will point out any fresh or innovative ideas in the game. They may also tell how many dungeons there are in it, when it gets difficult, and even hints about the ending. I don’t want to know about any of that stuff. Back when TP came out, I couldn’t resist looking at reviews (I had to wait for the Gamecube version), so I spoiled the game for myself to a minor degree and was disappointed about some things (such as dungeon count; the last two were a bit of a joke in terms of complexity). Still enjoyed that game though.
Basically, I want to play SS knowing as little as possible, so if anything truly unique or great happens, I will be pleasantly surprised. Zelda games don’t come very often, and I want to savor this experience lol.
If that’s the case just look on metacritic without actually clicking on any of the sites. They basically snip 1 or 2 lines from the review that basicaly sum it up without telling you anything and show you the score.
I forgot to reply to this. I don’t speak for SRK expecially since I don’t hate TP at all. The only thing that was disappointing about it for me was how easy it was. I like Midna and hope that maybe someday they’ll do a sequal to TP where maybe Midna needs help or something in the Twilight Realm from some other evil and Twilight Realm could possibly be expanded on more.
Yeah it was pretty easy. But generally this game got hate on the internet and especially on SRK whenever the zelda threads pop up. I understand OOT was great for its time, but Twilight Princess is better than OOT in just about every department-story telling, level design, weapons, dialog, pacing, varied towns and environment, horseback riding, control. The only thing I could say that OOT was better in was difficulty and the ending was better.
I to like TP. My only complaints where, as said, how easy it was, but also how empty the world was at times. The fields are so damn barren. I also wish the unique dungeons items where more useful outsode of their respective dungeons. Only the standard equipment tends to stay useful, like the bow and hook shot an shit.
But other then that TP does a lot of things I really liked, and I liked the game over all and would like to return to that time again, would love to see Midna again, so on, so fourth.
I enjoyed TP (only played it once, and that was five years ago, wow where has time gone) even though it was disappointing in some departments. I really thought the overworld was going to be much more expansive. When I played SoTC much later, it was exactly what I expected from TP. A large continuous world, not segmented land. Yeah, SoTC was empty, but it was still remarkable to travel miles and miles without load times.
Another thing was the Spinner. That was a badass item, yet it was BARELY USED outside of the dungeon where it was found. Seriously, that thing had great potential for creating some memorable moments and clever puzzles. A real missed opportunity.
I preferred the story of OoT. Maybe it’s the nostalgia talking, but it felt more complete. Probably my favorite game ending of all-time. And I loved the fact that Link was a huge playboy in that game.
With that said, I look forward to when I get around to replaying TP. The sky temple may be favorite temple of all time, and it was only smart that Nintendo base an entire game on the sky.
I think you all are going to be disappointed if you think this game is going to be any harder than Twilight Princess. Firstly, this game is coming out on the Wii. Secondly, people don’t want to be challenged these days. The 13 year olds these days aren’t the same 13 year olds that felt accomplished after beating the Water Temple in OOT
I’m pretty sure that they have a Super Guide set up somewhere in this game that will help people who can’t figure some things out. That actually helps take a burden off Nintendo’s shoulders when they’re afraid some people won’t be able to beat their game. I was also pretty certain I posted in this thread earlier that there was supposed to be some type of second quest. does quick search
the hud was too much and wouldn’t quit
too easy
the game thinks you’re stupid and keeps reminding you what a 5,10, rupee is or how to do your moves
towns boring
characters boring (exept zant)
barren land
tear gathering
hardly any exploration
i liked the ending and cut scences but it feels like they mainly focused on the cut scenes and ending
i liked oot but MM is hands down the best in the series
