The Last of Us 2 Thread - This thread is full of spoilers, please don't click on it until you finish the game

Ok, this has left the realm of subjectivity at this point.

You’re objectively wack for not replaying some of one of the GOAT gaming franchises.

If you were in to tactical RPGs, I would say Final Fantasy Tactics is worth a billion play throughs just for all the different ways you can make your teams.

I liked Abby a lot. She felt more like the hero while Ellie was almost like the villain. Abby is the good guy in this and I did not want to play as Ellie anymore.

Ellie’s ultra-snowflake dyke persona got on my nerves, especially that “mother fucker” line that was so over used. Her and Dina was cringe to look at.

Summary

The part in the game where you are squaring off against Ellie, that was fun but also absurd. A girl/dude that jacked should be able to crush a skinny chick like Ellie the moment she got a hold of her neck.

Abby is a trans (I don’t care what other articles the ND may have put out to de-confirm this, her character design speaks the political intentions of this game), so this just like Fallon Fox… or maybe like a high school Brock Lesnar who went trans. She’s really jacked and there is no way Ellie would be able to fight that.

I’m giving this around a 7 to 8/10 (can’t decide).

Story and gameplay was top notch for me. Deep storytelling, many parts in the game are really fun and challenging, the voice acting was great, the characters (in abby’s scenes) where great… but the political ideology preaching is obviously intended on this game and because of that it can’t be a 9 or 10

Yeah, devs were very biased. It’s just absurd how far they went to undermine Ellie while propping up Abby.

Well, I can’t complain. I actually ended up liking the character and his story.

The game is a loaded WOKE message and I assume being pro-transgender is a higher-tier of progressive mindset to the left.

Regardless of my disdain towards the politics, I can’t deny that I think the game is good.

I’m not saying there isn’t some political message/agenda in TLOU2 or anything, but I am glad that I am just oblivious to that fact and saw nothing political about the game at all. I actually had this discussion with someone about a movie too but I can’t remember WTF movie it was, where it apparently went completely over my head.

I play games and watch movies to be entertained and nothing more so I don’t pay attention to any of that crap while playing the game. Sure maybe after the fact someone talks to me about it and I am like “oooooh okay now I see” but by that point I’ve already experienced it and have my initial feelings about it so it changes nothing.

Just finished the game and decided to check out this thread. Yikes. My thoughts are it’s pretty good but it ran a little long. The stuff after main event felt a little unneeded. I’m still down for a part 3.

Naughty Dog was unhappy with Vice’s negative review

Not just them. Apparently they are not sending review copies of Ghost of Tsushima to people that didn’t give TLOU2 a glowing review.

Woooooow. Why even do that? Despite people disparaging it here and elsewhere, TLOU2 sold very well and will likely continue to sell well. Is it to send a message or something?

It’s stupid, not beneficial in anyway. Just feeds the people that were looking at the glowing reviews with suspicion. As DreamcastGuy said in his video. They are coming off as sore winners.

Because game developers and publishers view outlets like Vice like an extension of their PR departments. They get salty if they get anything less than praise.

You ever heard anything about how pro reviews are suspect by definition?

That would be why. If you don’t give anything but brilliant praise, you get blacklisted and don’t receive early copies, which means you lose the race for the first reviews out and therefore are just another nobody rambling about games.

This is why I say, “never look up reviews, look up some direct footage and take your own conclusions.” :man_shrugging:

The real trick is to find a reviewer whose taste in games matches yours somewhat close and isn’t beholden to a big publisher arm or something.

I have a couple YouTube’s reviewers i follow and they do well knowing their audience cares about their opinion and don’t need it day 1 every time so not getting an early review copy doesn’t kill them.

It’s a combination of finding some people with taste similar to yours and doing your own research as well.

TLOU2’s story was 100.00% Hot, Depressing trash, and insulting to it’s characters. Naughtydog is suddenly joining the likes of Bethesda and E.A on the hate train.

Insightful new take.

Naughty Dog will NEVER join Bethseda and EA on the hate train. Let’s get that straight. Even with the sometimes hyperbolic nature of this thread, that’s too far a reach.

Zero punctuation is this for me. We usually line up pretty well.

The thing that has stained them the most in all this is the invalid DCMA claims they hit people with. There were several YouTube channels, that did not post audio or video of the leaks, that were hit with DCMA claims for simply discussing them. That’s really hurt their reputation. No matter what you think of the game, no one approves of people gaming the YouTube copyright claim system.

This situation has also made the tradition video games media look terrible because they didn’t cover it at all. They were completely crickets. Its why more and more gamers rely on Youtubers for their gaming news. Spawnwave gives a daily run down of the basics and has great weekly podcast that he live streams on Saturday that has at least six or seven other Youtubers on it. It’s good because they don’t have identical tastes. Plus MVG (Modern Vintage Gamer) has great technical insight. Nate The Hate is very insightful as well and seems to have good industry sources because says things that come true often. Hell Nate and MVG have a great podcast too. Why do I need low caliber content like IGN. If there is a major situation, YongYea will cover it. I remember when the traditional games media tried to call him alt right. If you watch that dudes content, you know that’s bullshit. That’s the go to for anyone that doesn’t toe the line.

As for as reviewers, I like ACG. He goes in depth in his reviews and breaks down what he thinks of each aspect and why. So even if you don’t agree with his assessment you can see why he came to that conclusion. There are few others but he comes to mind immediately, my best friend hipped me to his channel, been watching it ever since.
