Which is awesome. That’s great. I’m not saying you are wrong…for you. Same as I’m not saying he’s not wrong either. It’s a bit of a subjective position no?
I didn’t find Memetos a chore at all so am I right or are you? Just depends on the person.

I don’t think anybody is being wrong when it comes to length. Everybody got their tolerance with that.
Troy certainly seemed to think so.
He needs thicker skin. It’s bullshit how much of a minefield discussion of this game has become.
I really don’t see anything wrong about the story. Your comparison to ME3 doesn’t mean much because if people liked the 1st one over this, and one of the main reason of their dislike towards TLOU2 is story, then I would like to understand why the first TLOU had a better story.
I just don’t see Abbie being just a much more interesting character over Ellie a problem or a minus to the storytelling of this game.
Then you didn’t understand the point of my post. You asked why people wouldn’t like the game. I told you. It’s a narrative game. If people didn’t like the narrative then the gameplay won’t matter to them. I used ME3 as my personal example of a similar situation since I haven’t played TLOU2. The gift and the curse of a narrative focused game is that the story can compensate for subpar gameplay but opposite isn’t necessarily true.
No, i got that. But it goes back to my point. These are the same people who liked TLOU1 so what is with the narrative of that game that is some what better?
Even if someone prefers the narrative of TLOU1 more how can the narrative of TLOU2 be considered a big negative?
All I am saying is that there is nothing really wrong about the narrative, even if you prefer whatever game over TLOU2. It just strikes me as another “It’s not like the first game” syndrome that nearly every RPG sequel gets. FF7r just got it.
I even read someone here complain “it’s too long” which is rather funny since so many people have been bitching about games being incomplete/short and just reserved for milking them DLC’s… now you have a game with a good amount of game time and people still bitch.
To you. Not everyone has the same opinion. Opinion isn’t fact.
Simple. People loved Joel and Ellie in 1. Most did not like Abby and what they did to to the two in 2. It’s easier to like a game and/or it’s story if you have characters that are likeable.
You have to remember a huge majority of the people that aren’t fans of the story knew the story months ago from the incomplete leaks without a full picture of the story. And no not everyone is like that but they seem to be the most vocal about it. I just know anecdotally from the few forums I visit that people who have actually played the game seem to be raving about it.
And you know that people, especially on the internet, can never change their mind, so the people who knew leaks months ago who were upset with the story went into the game at release with a tainted view of the game and just wanted to be right about their opinion.
Many of them never intended to play the game anyways but they want their voices to be heard. It’s just the nature of console fanboys now a days.
But getting to experience the game not knowing the story at all and hardly seeing any media about this game let me watch the story unfold organically and it was probably the best video gaming experience I’ve ever had, or up there. It’s like an emotional rollercoaster that slowly unfolds where it goes from hatred to rooting for someone as you learn more about the character.
But again, people who knew all of this prior wouldn’t experience it the same way. Neither would someone who is watching someone else play and not playing it themself. I don’t really care if people like/dislike the game as it has no effect on me and I loved every second of it and didn’t want it to end even after 27 hours. But it’s also tough to have a real discussion about the game with people who haven’t played the game and had tainted views of the game coming into it at launch. There are people who seem to just be ripping this game but have spent more time watching multiple streams of it than I spent playing the full game.
Someone who spends 30+ hours watching something they don’t like is someone I cannot relate to and someone who’s not really worth engaging. I’ve tried but realized it goes nowhere. If I don’t like something, I don’t pay attention to it.
Citation needed
I’m talking just anecdotally from what I have seen with my own eyes. Stop being dense and you know that any type of citation for something of such simply isn’t possible. Hell even some of the top streamers like Angry Joe are doing this. He’s legit the only “big” streamer I have payed attention to with this game though just because someone linked it in here.
The majority of what I’ve been reading is people wanting to spend 30+ hours watching something they know they don’t like just to be like “LOL THIS IS SO DUMB I WAS SO RIGHT”. Imagine spending 30+ hours doing something you dislike just to make you feel good to say your gut feeling from months ago was right.
It seems to be that is the case for most people in this thread too.
Completed the game today. Loved it soooo much. Abby and Ellie are going to stick with me for a long time.
I don’t understand the hate this game is getting.
Hating the game without playing it is fine. But why force the hate down people’s throats and telling everyone else that they should hate it too? Why don’t do something more productive with your life, like doing something you enjoy?
I have a friend who didn’t play the game, watched the leaks, watched some gameplay on twitch and kept telling me that I’ll hate the game.
When I said I’m enjoying the game, he kept telling me to continue playing because he said I’ll surely hate the game. But the more I play, the more I enjoyed it. One minute I’m on Team Ellie, then I’m on Team Abby, then I’m on Team Ellie again. Beating Ellie up as Abby messed with me. Beating and almost drowning Abby as Ellie messed with me. I didn’t want to do it too. But it was so good! Games aren’t supposed to make you feel good or make you do things you agree with all the time. I like it when something I watch or play makes me uncomfortable and question things.
Anyway, hating on a game without playing it is like determining if sex is good or bad just by watching porn.
You gotta go through the whole process of courtship, romance, falling in love and then ultimately having sex with the girl to understand the whole process.
Anyway, I respect everyone’s views. We’re all unique individuals. I just don’t get why people have to go to such lengths to spread hate for the game, telling everyone to hate the game to the point of being obsessed by it. Do something else with your life please.
Day or 2 late on this, but Angry Joe posted his official review on the game.
It’s almost nothing new if you’ve seen him streaming the game, but he gets into a lot more detail regarding his gripes.
Your comments about having to fight Ellie and Abby as one another is spot on. I felt the exact same way. I didn’t want to have to do it but I had to do it to move on in the game.
Those feelings are simply something that someone watching will never understand too. That is something that you have to physically play in order to understand those feels.
Stabbing Alice and then playing ball with her as Abby messed with me too.
And Bear. I killed Bear =(
I played ball with him too.
I was like Fuuuuck…you made me kill the dogs and now you’re making me play with them. And they are so adorable. =(
And I liked that a game can make me feel so uncomfortable. We’re human beings. We’re supposed to feel all the range of emotions. Happy, sad, fear, every fucking thing else.
You know I have a friend who asked why I listen to sad songs. She’s the type who posts holiday pictures, selfies, food porn on her facebook and other superficial stuff. Only happy stuff. It’s as if some people can’t consume media that challenges them and that life is full of rainbows and unicorns.
If you can’t appreciate sad stories/music, stories that make you uncomfortable, if you haven’t been truly broken and defeated in life before, then how can you really appreciate true joy? These people are living just half a life.
I’m just glad that I played a game that made me uncomfortable plus a whole range of other emotions.
Agreed,
I also think it’s the “it’s not like the original!” syndrome more than anything else.
Much RESPECT to Joe! This is Proof Angry Joe isn’t bought and in the back pocket of the companies. Because he dared to be Honest and give this depressing ass game the mediocre score it RIGHTFULLY deserves!
If Joe hasn’t been banned from Sony functions and denied early access before? He WILL be now!
I’m not even gonna bother watching his “official” review of the game. Dude had his mind made up well before he even finished the game so his viewpoint is already tainted.
If you pay attention to what most of the haters are complaining about, you’d see this is not so. Most haters of this game, including myself, hate it because of the gawd awful decisions and events regarding the story. They took the characters we loved from the first game and bent them over hardcore in the sequel! Even worse: The game forces you to play quite a few hours, as the the character responsible for said arse-ramming. Before eventually returning us to playing as our characters to watch them get bent over even more.
You can’t blame us for whining and being upset to at that. That’s not cool. F’ this game!
And you had your mind made up well ahead of time, that you were going to be dismissive of his complaints. Anyone who loved the first game and it’s characters were naturally going to have their “viewpoint tainted”, at the decisions NaughtyDog has made to screw them over in a multitude of ways.
