That overhead Rekka is not apart of the blockstring, it will be very prone to mashing in the future, sigh. I don’t know whether you can combo off his F.Mk overhead, I’m currently testing that out now. What Lar’s brings is solid play, he reminds of Ryu with the DP and Cr.Mk, but his mixups don’t look strong, I feel he would be better on point, as with his tag ins into Kazuya, it would be devastating with the EWGF.
I’m liking him. Far Roundhouse to Avalance kick is neat. Adon never had that. :C
I noticed AK can cross up. Trying to use all these throw to silent entry/jump/dashes to try and have a crossup thing going on but I’m not getting anything.
I was testing out his normals…yeah, Lar’s, in my opinion, has some amazing normals. His Storm Axle beat’s crouching low forwards for free, (tested on Julia and Ryu.) His Far Fierce beats Ryu’s Cr.Mp so easily. In fact, if Lar’s gets you into the corner, you’re in trouble, as his normals control the ground so well and his DP stops you from jumping.
If only he had a special move with a hard knockdown… I love hes able to mix up but have great normals. Anybody tried is double kick as an anti air if so is it good?
His double kick, do you mean Lightening Screw? It is when done DEEP, you have to treat it like a Shotos MP DP in SSF4, do it late. His normals really are fantastic.
Nah, it’s a throwback to Geki from SF1 going by the little explanation thing in the store.
I’m digging Lars so far but I’m surprised to see he has no target combos and only 1 unique attack that doesn’t OH

Avalanche kick not safe on block. Standing block reversal srk from Ryu hits clean, so does standing jab. So we can assume it’s at least -3. It’s also pretty slow on startup, so I don’t think Lars will be able to use it as liberally as AE Adon does. I played a couple rounds with a friend testing Ryu’s changes and he had no issue at all countering AK on reaction with cr.mp, cr.hp or straight srk. I think the safest pressure at this point is cancelling to lk.silent entry.
I’m having some trouble with combos using his rekkas, at random (or maybe under circumstances I’m unaware of) they just don’t connect after the cancel. 50% of the time a cr.lp x2, cr.mp, cr.mk, rekka will fail at the cancel and the opponent will be able to block. Is there specific frame timing like with Kazuya’s cr.mp x2, cr.mk, mist step uppercut?
Avalanche Kick is indeed unsafe, use his Storm Axle instead, it’s better at controlling the ground (it punishes Cr.Mks in general so well. I tested that move on Julia and Ryu’s Cr.Mk.) As for safe pressure, I don’t know what is safe, all his Rekkas are punishable, I’m thinking at this point it’s best to end on a frame positive move such as his Cr.Hp as the push back is so great. For his Rekka confirms, you’ll have to drop one of those Cr.Lps, I believe. If you can, confirm into his Lightning Thrust, to do this you must link into Cr.Hp, which can be difficult but is doable. As his Rekka damage is pretty meh. To confirm into his Cr.Hp you can do:
Cr.Lk, Cr.Lp, Cr.Hp. Or remove one of those lights and go straight into Cr.Hp, IE; Cr.lp into Cr.Hp. Or you can Close Standing Medium Kick, Cr.Lk, Cr.Hp, but you have to cancel on the first hit of the Cr.Hp.
Lars sounds like fun, can’t wait to try him
In testing his safety, I did notice that the initial barge of Dynamic Entry was completely safe to Ryu’s DP, so I assume this will be the crux of his pressure.
EDIT: Scratch that, it’s just a range issue. Sagat’s 4f tiger uppercut def punishes it. Never mind.
Lar’s can use his Jaguar kick (Hadoken backwards with any kick button) to avoid fireballs, it’s tricky to get used to, but it allows you to punish fireballs from a range where jump ins wouldn’t work.
Does QCF+P go through projectiles?
Alright alright… despite how flashy and cool this character is he’s extremely unsafe.
Care to know why?
Any special move he has canceled from any normal is unsafe. DP punishable by the whole cast or with there fastest long reaching normal ie.3-5 frames( for those situations he’s pushed back)
All of his special moves are again unsafe and can be interrupted. Edit: only avalanche spike is safe
Even a heavy attack into a FADC can be DPed.
He’s really about hit confirming to his damage.
No safe pressure at all…
Nothing to deal with attacks with super armor.
So now that we know whats the negatives… Whats the positves
EX maybe, QCF+K definitely goes fireballs.
I don’t think he’s meant to be played in a Ryu or Street fighter kind of way, IE: Pressure with a good poke and gain some chip damage with a safe special.
What Lar’s will do well in the future is punishing whiffed normals, I think he’s very good at it, especially with F+Mk being so godly against Cr.Mk’s. His links are tough, his damage isn’t that great, but my first impressions were he’s going to be good at controlling space. As for safe pressure, does he need it? I’ve mentioned this before, but his normals are excellent, and he has one overhead to keep his opponent thinking.
He is not what I thought he would be but this man his sum buttons. He can footsie with the best of them. He’s all about hit confirms, frame traps and tick throws. He has an overhead and 150 damage throw. He also has a nice cross up. Lars seems to reward solid play with good fundamentals. He looks cool when he gets that one hit for a combo but this char is a STREET FIGHTER CHARACTER. Dont let the Tekken skin fool ya.
What I’ve found good today:
His AA sucks bawls flat out. Only his Far Mp normal acts as an antiair (and against Juri’s j.HK it seemed to trade half the time), and his Dragon Kick for me is kinda haphazard (don’t know if that’s just me). For a point of comparison I used Christie’s cr. HP and that dominated the area above her head.
His first hit of his light rekka has a fair amount of pushback, making it somewhat safe in a sense. People can’t reversal it unless they’re fast and have large horizontal range. Second hit has okay recovery time, but quick reversals own it easily. 3rd is open game on block.
One thing I noticed that makes Lars (at least online) really good to me is that his EX Silent Entry will slip past enemies, crossing them up like Ibuki’s dash. And an EX rising storm from the cross up leads into one of this juggle combos. This leads me to believe that Lars is, like everyone says, a Street Fighter in disguise. One that relies on mixups and mindgames to mess with the opponent.
I haven’t had any issues with MK version of Lightning Screw. Though I do tend to do mine a bit late.
A couple things I found were that he has another crossup ,although I haven’t been able to recreate out of the corner, but jump lk can cross up.
The other thing what that his j.mp can be tricky in that it hits on one side yet he lands on the other. Might be worth doing once in a while.
umm combo
cr mp, cr hp, qcf+k~k, cr mp, cr hp, qcf+k~p.
decent damage bnb style combo, works from qcb+k
Someone should start a combo thread. I give it 3 days and if there isnt one i will make it.
