affinety, that vid was ugly.
first Athena vs. Athena test!

16-18 months for one person to make ONE character.
It took them 4 years to make 20 characters (arcade version). They had to have multiple people working on each character at the same time.
One full year would add five characters.
Those CC combos from the UK were nice, can’t wait for the console version so we can actually record some good quality ones.
??? (“otto”). It means “oops” or “oh-oh!”.
Yea good work on the CC vid UK guys!
BTW please stop posting matches from E3 and other game shows unless the players are actually decent, no one here wants to watch that stuff.
pretty much
Frankfurt, what kind of 1940s operation do you think SNKP runs? They don’t have just 1 guy making anything. It’s always teams and you also forget that trying to find a good resolution and style takes time as well. It’s not like they banged out a method and an art style right away. That stuff starts slow and once they have a process it speeds up as is why they were quoted to have some difficulties with the process. They didn’t work on just 1 character for 16-18 months and that isn’t how long it took them after finalizing the process I bet.
The streamlined process has been sort of documented.
- Designers re-design the character for the game.
- Nona draws a concept design for the character’s new look in the current art style.
- Model is built for the character and animator frames out all of the moves that need to be sprited.
- Artists start the spriting process overlay off of images extracted from whatever 3D program they’re using keeping in mind the new style.
- Nona and company would then re-edits each frame which is probably the slowest part of the entire process since consistency is key.
- Balance comes next and with that modifying certain frames to make sure they work is important.
Though I do think they probably switch it around since balancing the character design off of the base sprites before the extra details are put in would probably be a better method that they used since it does save a bit of time knowing how many frames you’re getting to make a move look good.
I know it’s a lot of work, but you’re kidding yourself if you think it takes them 16-18 months right now to make just 1 character with their team. I know you said 1 person, but these sprites aren’t worked on by just 1 person.
except thats exactly how long it takes. you forgot to include in those steps how many weeks/months each of those steps takes, plus they didn’t talk about how they made those same dotpixel backgrounds.

Nearly =)
that was pretty good
didnt think you can parry a dm in xii
Fun match, I want more =[
nice vid.
Really fun matches.
Are you a fucking retard? Did you read my post*** at all***, genius?
Go back to your hole, blind retard.
Let’s have you back-peddle and try and rationalize, now. It’s going to be cute.
Last character used in this but best Duo-Lon footage I’ve seen so far.

Dear Frankfurt,
You’re still act like you know little to nothing about how game development actually works, because you think that because it took them 4 years of work from after KOFXI and they’ve only created 20 characters for the Arcade version that was officially release as of every source on the internet April of this year… oh and which they’ve been loketesting with a full character cast from before then as well as now debuting 2 fully playable characters 2 months later for the console version release and as we’re not cleared whether or not that’s even the complete roster yet because nobody can confirm whether or not there will be a KOFXII boss character or not, you’re what, right? This isn’t simple math.
Just because I said I wouldn’t mind if they could release the same game and just added 10-12 characters per release doesn’t mean that’s what they can do or what they will do, it was an opinion so I don’t know why you decided to let that crawl up your ass, die and make you feel all offended about it.
Game development is simple, when you’re trying to develop a new art-style and game system it starts really damn slow. They didn’t start modeling and spriting day 1 or probably even year 1 so get that out of your naive head. Once you have a method IT’S HELLA EASY. Might be time consuming and shit, but have you ever been or seen a game development team work before? I have.
It takes about 1 week to bang out a simple model with basic textures, ready to rig and then animate. 1 guy can animate every single animation for a character in 1-2 weeks and then export it. The tedious part comes next where EXPERIENCED Spriters need to sit down, outline and conform the base model pictures into an outline that later gets more detail added. Yes, it’s slow, you’re doing at most 3-4 frames a day per person. That process alone takes a lot of time for 1 person. Let’s be generous with how many frames each character would have then. Let’s say each character has 1000 frames of unique animations, I bet that they don’t, but let’s say they do. That’s 8.5 months of just doing outlines and flat bases. You wanna know where I got that number from? Hobbyist spriters take 2-4 hours to put together a GG sized sprite from concept to finish and creating a character frame from scratch, quality is a matter of skill, not always time. Then you have people adding and checking clothes animations which takes less time, mostly tweaking and they can do a 2 or 3 sets of animations (say standing A, crouching A, jumping A) a day, week at most because it needs to go back and forth to Nona or the Art Director to check for quality and consistency.
This all assumes that the King of Fighters team is small. 10-15 artists including Nona working 10-12 hours a day, everyday. You can go and call bullshit on that if you want, if you don’t believe people in the game development industry don’t really work that hard, but whatever I’m not here to convince you. Go and try to convince yourself how cute I’m being and keep calling me a retard because all your little quote pretends to be fact and truth? Let me educate you on what you think you know.

16-18 Months for one person to make one character is false. Only English source is a translation on a wiki from a Japanese interview that STATES it’d probably take 16-17 months IF 1 person WERE to do a Character by themself. Fact? None of the characters were worked on by 1 person, you’re retarded if you think so. Try and sit there and sprite the same character for 17 months for at least 8 hours a day and see if you don’t commit suicide. Don’t believe me? Go translate it for yourself: http://ffl.sakura.ne.jp/topic/press/kof12.htm, Wiki isn’t always right kid.

It took them 4 years to make 20 characters, is truth. They have multiple people working each character at the same time, well no shit sherlock. So why do I have to pretend you make sense when there’s no cohesive transition between your first and second and a half sentence?
-
Here’s the fun part, why would 1 full year add 5 characters? How do you know this? Are you secretly part of the SNKP team or do you think your grade 3 division skills allow for you to go OH SHIT, 4 YEARS DIVIDED BY 20 CHARACTERS, THEY CAN’T MAKE MORE THAN 5. OMFG. Like I stated and like I will rephrase, you’re a retard if you think they went and started making Terry Bogard’s new sprite day 1 and they’ve been trucking away at the same pace ever since.
I use logic and experience to come up with my argument, how did you come up with yours? Reading a wiki and being an asshole? I can italicize and bold too! What did you prove? Did I even target you with my first comment or are you horrendously offended by the fact that I would pay full price for a product, in this case a FIGHTING GAME for just 10-12 new characters? I don’t need anything tweaked, just new characters. Good looking Vanessa and Yamazaki in KOF12 with modified moveset. That’s what offended you?
I’m ignoring any future posts from you and if I get banned for telling you how stupid your logic is, whatever. I’ve been on this site for 8 years and I’m sick of immature kids like you pretending you know shit. If you want to call me a retard again, PM it to me so I can hurt you some more, this is a joke read for people who are bored. I purposely decided to be mature and not cuss you out completely by just deleting swear words out of this, just because there might be some good 12 year old kids lurking around and I don’t want to be the reason they’re corrupted.
P.S. That is one tricky Duo-Lon player, some dead spots here and there, but really sick pressure style. Nice post KrsJin.
i like that player.
xiii, ive never heard of that video before
Well damn. Sick Duo Lon. People have been sleeping on him way too much.
