The King of Fighters: NeoWave Thread!

Well I’m glad I saw this thread yesterday. I just pre-ordered mine at Ebgames. I can’t wait to get this since it’s the first KoF game that I actually bought. Hopefully they still have some of those Terry hats that they’re advertising as a bonus. It’s times like these though that I’m mad that I got rid of my Xbox Live subscription.

Correction…K9999 is NOT in the Ps2 version…

Only Angel, Rugal, Seth and the others are…K999 did not make the cut. Man theres another KOF NW thread all you guys gotta do is dig it up I assure you!

Im surprised no one talked about the other thread in Other Games section.

Yeah those Kyo combos are nice and it is based off him cancelling his first df+D hit.

Guys I have a NW section in GC.net Im about to put more info in…but for the basics of the game and the top tier etc I got them already posted at

Throws do reset the damage scaling in NW… and the tops in 2k2 got nerfed with the exception of Choi.

So the 2k2 top tiers are now high tier but not top tier.
(So no more Leona grenade combo madness, no more Souped up 2k2 Vanessa etc)

For bosses like AOF2 NW Geese (in the av folks hehe) and O. Rugal, they’ve all been toned down to make them tournament eligible. Their moves have been tweaked in comparison to the boss versions (of Geese for sure) so they are in the rankings with the exception of the console specific characters.

I dunno if I like this game, maybe I haven’t played it enough yet but IMO this is a step backwards from 2003.

It’s 2002 ver 1.5 but that’s good AND bad…maybe I played too much 2003?

Kyo ain’t worth a damn again.

Whip is wierd, it’s like they TRIED to nerf her but it didn’t really work out so it’s a 1/2 ass nerf? Like some of shit is still godly but her super TRADES now!? (2003 wasn’t SHIT short of a fireball getting through that whip)

Ramon is just as good as always, the fact that he’s in NeoWave is great.

Vanessa is still cool but not as good as in 2000 and XI

I’m scared to pick Jhun, I’m used to 2003’s Jhun 1.5 - I don’t wanna relearn 99/00’s Jhun 1.0 lol

And the whole groove thing is kinda wierd - I mean I wouldn’t bitch about the grooves if MAX2 has a damned roll of SOMEKIND, I mean dan cah I atleast get a Early KOF/S-Groove dodge at least?!

I dunno - plus the timer is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too short on the chracter select, it’s MUGENesque look over all…I dunno about this game f’real man.

I’m waiting for XI like a motherfucker now.

Also could somebody tell me what’s up with the random chain combos I’ve seen? - and heatmode doesn’t seem like it’s worth it.

To my fellow Canadians, this may also apply to Americans, too:

You can get Neowave at Blockbuster and Future Shop for $29.99.

In the US - go to GameCrazy.

BB doesn’t sell new games in the US - and we don’t have Future Shop in the US.

My bad; just trying to help my fellow KoF fans:tup:

Did you pre-order XI yet?

Preorder XI? - on what system?!

Import PS2

Yeah man, XI comes out June 22nd:tup:

Yeah basically all supers in NW got nerfed except some…thats for sure…hehe.

Heat Mode isnt worth it as a whole…its worth it for certain characters…like Robert for example…his Heat Mode combo makes him can you believe it…high tier now!!!
O. Yashiro has a 90% combo with Heat Mode but the major thing with Heat mode is 2 things-

1.You can heat cancel (thank God)
2. You cannot go into heat mode once your bar is red.

There are new combos in NW that weren’t in 2k2, and also some chains have been beefed and theirs more exceptional combos in NW…so it is like 2002 Championship Edition.

The Groove system IMO makes it deeper…different ways to play characters besides just the same old SC Groove 2k2 style of play. Now obviously some characters are better in SC mode than in GB or MAX2 mode…

And Jhun is top tier in this game…hes damn good…but complex…hes got his 99 aerial stomp madness combos…

and Saisyu is the easiest top tier character in the game to learn…straight 98 style.

Even characters like Shingo got beefed in this game while characters like Vanessa got seriously nerfed and Athena etc…

Oh yeah do yourselves a favor people…go into options and turn the music onto arrange…please…

So is the general feeling that 2002 is better? I’m getting alot of mixed opionions and nothing substantial aside from them both being solid games.

I like Neo Wave better personally…but I have my group of people that find 2002 better…this game got a mixed bag bc of the fact that it didnt add a whole lot…but it fixed some issues with 2k2…added some more favorites…

stuff like that.

I play this all the time…rarely play 2k2…

Now the big question is this-will this series become the next Dream Match series for KOF? Or will KOF XIII be the next dream match?

Lets look at what Neo Wave promised us-

We were supposed to have every KOF character including the 96 Boss Team in the game…but we didnt get it…I guess theres hope for KOF NW II…(Aurora style)

Yeah, NeoWave was supposed to be THE King of Fighters; but it was some what turned into a rehashed 2002. Don’t get me wrong, 2002 is one of my favorite games of all time, but whats the point of remaking a game? I ask you!
IGN gave the US release a 6.8, but I don’t trust them really; I take thier reviews with a grain of salt.
Anyway, I’m going to keep my eyes open for a domestic copy of 02/03, even though it’s IMMENSLY hard to find.
XI is a defenite purchase, but the wait is killing me.
I would love to get NGBC, but I may end up getting Neowave first.
Ideally, I want to have the entire KoF collection for my PS2 someday.
It’s really just a matter of when I buy them, and in what order.

I’m working on the full SNK library for X Box.

So far I have all 3 KOF’s for X-Box, 02/03 - MI - NW

Awesome:tup:

Personally, I hated MI, and I have no interest in getting MI2; however, I will wait and see what people think before I throw around the “sucks ass” award, and I must admit, MI2 is looking worlds above MI in all aspects.

I personally like Neowave jsut a small tad better, though they’re still about as clsoe to being dead even as you can be. On the plus side, Neowave has a great roster (Forget about the lack of K9999 for a second, I never really thought he was that great a character any way), though 2k2 ps2/Xbox beats this by adding Goenitz, my favourite SNK boss, to the mix.

Also, I like the differant modes Neowave gives you, being able to Just Defend in Guard Cancel mode is awesome, and MAX2 mode is just fun (If broken feeling). They add a lot to the mix, if you ask me, and are fun to mess with until you find one that fits with your team.

In teh end, like I said, they’re pretty dead even, but Neowave just barely inches out in the lead.

Neowave was just made by SNKP to help boost ailing Atomiswave sales at the time.

Hmmm, I never thought of it that way; you’re right, it makes good sense and actually is a smart way of getting old fans into a new ‘system’. Teaching an old dog new tricks, so to speak.

And who knows…maybe we will see NeoWave 07/II when SNKP decides to go noto the Aurora board…

What exactly is the Aurora board? Obviously, it’s a strong board than the Atomiswave, but I’m not familiar with any titles that run on it. You have to understand the only time I ever get to an arcade is when I visit Toronto, which is seldom lately.
