The King of Fighters Maximum Impact 2- "The door has been opened..."

@SPOILER-
A friend told me that the world ‘Hoshi’ (Japanese for Star) could also mean ‘earth’ or the ‘planet’, so I think SNK have pulled off an FFX or something :sweat:

I’m personally only going under teh 3 stock rule, as any more than that = crazy abuse of level 3 supers for massive damage(I’m looking to show people what’s possible in a 1on1, so they can take it and modify it for themselves in whatever mode they choose)

In a 1-on-1, you get additional meters when you lose a round. Try 2/3 rounds and fill one player up to 3 stock, then kill them off. Next round they will be able to build up to 5 stock. The player that won the round will only be able to build up to 3 stock. Now, if the first round winner loses the second round, then they will be able to charge 5 stock as well.

It’s not from his ending, it’s from a cutscene after you defeat Luise Meyrink. She starts to evaporate and he just shouts “JESUS!” in his best Engrish voice.

hmmm…so 5 stock combos would be feasible and accepted without seeming like overkill or bullshit?

I’ll try and figure out some good combos when I have the time. Duke’s got some pretty easy ones that are flashy and allow double supers. I have some cool combos for fio as well.
Also what does duke’s kick super dooooo?

Yea I don’t see why not. It might be more uncommon but at least it’s possible in a normal game.

On another note, I started a Strategy / Technique thread. This one has a lot of spam and general hate (or displeasure). If anyone is interested in talking about just overall gameplay (or needs mission translations), swing by:

Godammit, someone needs to record this. NOW.

I fiddled around in training mode a bit today, trying to work out how damage scaling works in this game. I was using Terry (not Wild Wolf, regular Terry), with Alba as the training dummy.

It reads as: [combo]: [damage done by Burn Knuckle] [# of hits before Burn Knuckle] [which Stylish Move it was].

C -> df + C, Burn Knuckle: 11 dmg. (2 hits) (complete SM 18)
f + C -> b + C -> Burn Knuckle: 11 dmg. (4 hits) (complete SM 20; b + C in this SM hits multiple times)
f + B -> C -> D -> Burn Knuckle: 9 dmg. (3 hits) (complete SM 15)
f + B -> C -> Burn Knuckle: 11 dmg. (2 hits) (incomplete SM 15)
df + A -> C -> C -> Burn Knuckle: 9 dmg. (3 hits) (complete SM 5)
A -> C -> C -> Burn Knuckle: 9 dmg. (3 hits) (incomplete SM 1)
f + C -> f + C, Burn Knuckle (early): 11 dmg. (2 hits) (complete SM 19)
f + C -> Burn Knuckle: 14 dmg. (1 hit) (incomplete SM 19)
f + C -> f + C, Burn Knuckle (late, Alba reaching ground): 6 dmg. (2 hits) (complete SM 19)
C -> df + C, Burn Knuckle (late, Alba reaching ground): 6 dmg. (2 hits) (complete SM 18)

Unfortunately, it was hard to test complete vs. incomplete Stylish Moves, since many SMs end with a hit that knocks the opponent too far away to land a Burn Knuckle. Some other character might have better ways to test that, but I don’t have time to work that out just now.

Based on this, I think these are (some of) the rules:

  1. Damage scaling is based on the number of inputs in the SM, not the number of actual hits. (Notice that f + C, b + C leaves the Burn Knuckle doing the same damage as the 2-hit sequences, even though it’s a 4-hit combo.)

  2. Damage scales really severely when the opponent is on (or just near?) the ground.

Over the next few days I’ll try some other characters, get some more numbers, and see if I can work out the actual percentages by which damage is reduced.

Also, it’d be cool if someone could look into whether it matters whether the last move is canceled into or linked into. You can be sure a linked move is comboed into properly because the combo meter stays blue; if it turns green, the combo is escapable/could’ve been guarded/etc.

What we really need to do is start a coolaberation video thread and discuss the rules we want to do the video under(safe fall on/off, quick getup on/off, etc)

Fio: (safe roll turned on)
j.fk, (d+fp,d+fp) xx qcbx2+fk, dash, (df+wp,fp,fp) xx hcf+wp(2hits) xx qcb,hcf+fp

note: you can actually substitute another qcbx2+fk for the “hcf+wp(2hits) xx qcb,hcf+fp” part and continue with the combo, but it’ll break due to the hit limit before you can do anything special

Geese: (safe roll turned off)
j.fp(2hits), (wp,wp,fp,fp,f+fp), hcf+fk(2hits), deadly rave(opp hits wall as it ends), raging storm, dpm+fp

Geese: (safe roll turned on)
j.fk,(wk,wk,f+wk) xx qcf+2p(first hit connects with opp directly) xx deadly rave(the second hit of the qcf+2p hits opp before the deadly rave reaches them)

note: you HAVE to finish the input for the DR after the first hit of the qcf+fp but before the second one or it wont work(the timing gets all pissy)

Geese: (safe roll turned on/quick getup turned on)
(f+wk,d+wk,d+fk),(f+wk,d+wk,d+fk[all otg hits]) xx hcf+fk(2hits) xx raging storm

Meira Brothers Endings Translated. (Spoilers)

Alba Meira

Jivatma: As to be expected of "Yuudaimu."
Alba: Won’t you please tell me clearly - why do you call me “Yuudaimu?” Where’s the leader of Addes?
Jivatma: Heh heh heh. There’s no need to be impatient…he’ll be meeting you soon.
Alba: …he?
images flash
Alba: …this is-! ARGH!
Jivatma: Hmph. The next time we meet…I wish to gaze at this same starry sky once more…snaps fingers, palace starts to collapse

on the rooftop
Alba: Where am-
Luise: Southtown. Although we’re quite a distance from downtown…
Alba: Exactly what is going on here…please explain it to me! Why am I here? What happened there?
Luise: What happened there…was probably exactly what you saw with your own eyes. The reason you are here is because I rescued you and brought you here. Understood?
Alba: Please hold on…my head is still spinning. I’m pretty sure that I beat that man, and then…

…that’s right! Where’s Soiree? He should have returned ahead of me…I’m getting a bad feeling about this.
Luise: It’s unfortunate, but…he’s not here anymore.
Alba: What do you mean?! Where…where is Soiree?!
Luise: Probably…he has been captured by Addes.
Alba: Captured by Addes…but why- images flash
Luise: Alba!
Alba: Th-this is…ARGH!

Soiree Meira

Jivatma: As to be expected of "Yuudaimu."
Soiree: There you go again. What exactly are you? Saying stupid incomprehensible things like “Yuudaimu” or “Kushiru” or whatever…
Jivatma: If you really want to know…you must return to us. The place where you should be is Addes…
Soiree: Don’t joke around like that! No matter how you look at it, we should settle things right here and now.
images flash
Soiree: N-not again…
Jivatma: I insist, o our "Yuudaimu."
The day when you once again begin to navigate that ocean of stars is not far off…
snaps fingers, palace begins to collapse
Soiree: Damnit! I…I…AAAAARGH!
Alba: Soiree! Where are you, Soiree?
Luise: He’s no longer here.
Alba: Do you know where he went?
Luise: His location is no longer known to me.
Alba: Please…tell me. What is going on? How are you related to the both of us?
Luise: It’s a pretty long story…where should I start.

I am…we are…

Thanks–the translation is much appreciated!

Can someone post the link to see this correctly?

I played the game, and it’s very fun. Terry’s engrish is where it’s at!

What’s the AI like? In the first game the CPU was sometimes pretty predictable, and easy to beat (though there were exceptions…Duke, Mai, Seth). Even on the hardest setting.

Does the AI put up a good fight in MI2?

The AI has two major problems:

  1. It’s very vulnerable to certain specific tricks. For example, if you do a c.LK at the start of the round, you’re pretty much guaranteed first hit every time.

  2. The AI is way too aggressive. It tends to get hit by the end of long strings because it just stops blocking.

So the AI doesn’t sound that good, but eh that ain’t really important.

Btw, Duke’s AI sucked in the first game. You could Sidestep into a combo or knockdown Move nearly 90% of the match.

What’s with this 5 hit lauch thing OTG? When you finnish them off in the corner you can launch them by hitting them 5 times with c.lk.

actually thats “launch” signfies you’ve reached the otg limit and so your combo is done. You shouldn’t be able to hit them again until they get up.

Maybe they’re old…I dunno…but there are some LONG videos at Videogamerx:

http://videogamerx.gamedonga.co.kr/bbs/view.php?id=vx01&no=12101

Including the fabled Terry Bogard “JESUS!” exclamation…

Sounds the same as MI1…oh well. Thanks for the info. I hope the CPU is at least a LITTLE challenging…
