I’m brand new to KOF. It’s got a huge~ learning curve imo. There are so many characters to choose from so it’s difficult for me to find a good group to begin with. I’ve been trying to learn King, Benimaru, Eiji, and Blue Mary. But I get all their executions confused. I guess I should take it slow and get to know each character one by one.

You guys have any characters/group new people should play to get a feel for the game? I want to understand how to counter, evade attacks (w/ roll), and all other technical aspects that make KOF (recovery times, etc). It’s quite complicated coming from SF.

I’d appreciate any tips
Sorry if this sounds very whiny. The great news is I got a whole year to practice until KOFXII is released

I was the same way, and I still kinda am. KOF gets easier as you get a lil deeper, then once you get even further it gets hard again.

Evading with rolls I don’t recommend, it’s bad to roll too much. I don’t even think you should roll through fireballs, but I do that sometimes. After playing UM I’m finding Evade/Dodge/Urgent better than roll.

Benimaru/King/Mary sounds like an ok team to start with. Not the best beginner team, but if you like them you can stick with them as they are not hard to use. Eiji isn’t as easy as those 3. I’ll recommend you some good beginner characters even though you might not like them.

Good beginner characters:
Iori
Kyo
Chris (either version)
Orochi Yashiro
Ralf
Clark
Mai
Athena
Robert
Yuri (EX)
Terry
Andy
Joe

They aren’t complicated to use, so you should be able to get into the game picking three of those guys. Benimaru and King aren’t bad either. Mary took a while for me to get used to, but you might fare better than I did.

When I see the “Insert PS or PS2 disc”, I realised that it was probably for the computer.

When I put it in my computer, that’s when the disc worked.

Yes it has progressive scan.

It’s pretty much a flawless localization from the Japanese version with the exception of some minor censorship.

Mai still has her bounce, but all traces of blood in the game have been removed, but it plays perfect, so the absence of blood doesn’t detract from this exceptionally solid game.

Um…is this the one with Real Bout Mai with rekka fan strikes with cherry blossom petals? If so, how do you do that? I couldn’t pull it off in the Real Bout series, either. And I LOVE how they gave EX Mai Andy’s command, aerial strike, flip kick or thrusting punch moves.

I hate that Surprise Rose super of EX King’s. I have to totally adapt my zoning to deal with her crazy normals and not get too aggressive since my opponent would often make me eat that super if I rushdown too recklessly.

I say ignition did a good job, I have not encountered any bugs at all or anything that could potentially ruin the game. That color thing is annoying

Good to know. I wanted to wait to see if you guys who bought the JPN version could compare it to the U.S port.

No…Mai in 2002 UM has that move…I call it multifan…all it is in RBS is qcb+Cx6.

What are opinions of Andy as a decent character? Regular Andy seems really quick and he appears to have some solid counters. I have been mostly using a team of Terry, Andy and swapping out Leona/Eiji/Kyo for my third.

guys i’d like to buy the american version of this game but i have some questions:
1- what is the difference between the two covers? i mean n some shops (online) there is a cover, in other shops there is another one…
2- how is this release? i mean bugs,problems,etc
3- i live in italy and i have to buy it on the net so… how much is it in US at phisical shops? less or more than 26$US shipped? also used is ok
