The Job Diaries Thread Doc returns(Put them brake pads away bih)

Doc about to own his own McD’s out here. Nothing new is happening at my job but my boss has been making us have staff meetings once a month now which none of us are too thrilled about. Next friday we’re having our holiday luncheon and white elephant celebration outside of the office. It’s the first time in four years we’ve done that. The drawback…is that we also have a staff meeting on that day too. SMH!!!

what type of work u do breh?

you don’t need a degree to get a great paying job but it is much harder to get one without one. Doesn’t mean you can’t get it

I know someone who is a computer tech but he doesnt have any licences/certifications/degrees and rakes in almost 50k a year, he got it off of pure will and determination; he fucked up royally in the beginning but the company gave him a second chance and now he makes almost the same as his manager and his manager is paying off a 40k college degree debt

its about your hustle and bad you want it

Slave…but the legal term is a Scanner Operator in the Testing Office for my county’s school system. LOL!!! I do like some data entry and some management of a login database for certain teachers but I mainly scan the standardized test the kids take.

Got that 38 cent/hour payraise this week brehs

so… uuuh… 50K is considered great pay?

If you never finished high school perhaps.

Yeah, I was going to say 50K isn’t shit. That’s about entry level in a few fields.

50k depends on where you live and what your cost of living is. For example in NYC that ain’t shit.

You can live comfortably on 50k in the Midwest, or at least where I’m at. I’m sure in NYC that’ll get you a studio apartment that you need eight roommates to split the rent with. I wouldn’t move to either coast unless I knew I could make it as a professional or in the medical field (lol acting).

It’s actually pretty solid. It puts you at the median family income in the US, by yourself.

As an individual earner, it’s solidly in the top 30% or so iirc.

Most people don’t make much money in the US. Of course COL does make a difference. In NYC you actually can’t afford to live anywhere decent on it, but that’s why living in NYC is so dumb.

I actually know a rich guy with a homestead and a few properties. He works out of a trailer a few months out of the year in major cities like NYC. Just parks it somewhere near the city, pays for the space and electric, and writes that stuff off of his taxes too. Collects his money and goes back home, where he’s got solar panels, a ton of farmland and all that other stuff. I aim to be just like him, if I don’t leave the country.

The economy still really blows. Waaaaaaay too many workers for too few jobs. So employers can really lowball and require very specific experience and work history/career trajectory.

I wouldn’t recommend white collar jobs if you can’t get at least into the six figure range. And even at that range in NYC they still suck, especially depending on the hours you need to work to make it.

What you really want to do is learn a trade and then run your own business. And then you want a couple more businesses. You do not want to rely on an employer. You also don’t want just one stream of income, and you don’t want to have to actually do all the work yourself for those businesses. You want to be able to pass off the process and continue making money, by having everyone do a part of the job.

But life is hard and it’s really mostly luck and connections. Anyway keep your head up. Or put your head down and your nose to the grindstone. Really just don’t worry about it and keep grinding.

I will suggest that hopefully you take advantage of their management training classes and try to find stability so you can get more money.

A lot of moving from minimum wage to minimum wage is definitely a lack of focus.

But at least you got a job.

Serving the community making you feel responsible for the welfare of your own environment

So remember a few pages back when I was saying that I have a co worker who wants the D? Well she wants to go to a party with me tonight. My goal is to get her a few drinks (she says she has a low tolerance) and then bury my 9 iron inside of her. I know you guys told me it’s not a good idea but this girl is hot as fuck and I can’t hold out anymore. I must have her even if it’s only once. I’ll let y’all know how this goes.

Thinking about graduation, I felt that having an Associate’s would give me an edge in the work force, but it appears more like an upgraded high-school diploma (the fact that it’s in Visual Arts doesn’t help and Creative Writing/writing in general is more of my strong suit). I suppose I can form a portfolio and create more original works for the time being, but I’m utterly lost - my primarily goals are just finding a better job and moving out while establishing myself.

As for my job, it’s becoming a much more uncomfortable to work in - people keep shoplifting and leaving a shitload of items in carts after claiming they wanted to buy them, only to cover up their trangressions. These three women came in twice this week and pulled the same stunt Thursday, so we were on the lookout of them Friday, when a child for some unknown reason, tore down the toys off of the shelves, and hid inside while curled in the fetal position. Though I honestly don’t care if people shoplift nor could I prove they did, somehow it’s mentally wearing - considering we don’t have security and the cameras don’t even seem “utilized”, it doesn’t even feel like I’m working in a proper business.\

Then there’s the orders of new toys every week. The shelves become more cumbersome to tidy up because we have so much of everything, and some of the overnight stockers are literally stuffing items on the shelves, so whenever we touch something, two or three items will fall over. It doesn’t help that children tend to ruin those areas, and then only two people are only scheduled to fix up the store.

I have an associates and still dont have the job i went to school for. I’ve filled 100s of online applications and the jobs that have hit me back are the ones that are too far in a non commutable area. At this point im considering work from home jobs but i was always sceptical about them.

50k is great income depending on where you live. In the north the cost of living is higher than that in the the south so it balances out.

this right here is 100% truth.Knowing how to make money outside of work is a blessing. And the grinding part is GODLIKE…Look, this is my 3rd go at Mcdonalds but im not looking at it in a defeatist way or considering myself a loser in life becuz of it.You only lose when you give up.Never know the Doc might branch off and own his own restaraunt one day…

I get my schedule wednesday, crew seems kool.im right up the street from a bar and its a 24 HOUR LOBBY so i’ll deff have sum stories up.The yankee candle and home depot jobs took so much energy out of me that I was too tired to post day to day entries.i’ll post about the “Creepy wife stalking manager” at home depot later.

So last night I was written up again at work again alongside the other employees from the previous night, because apparently the store looked like shit and return carts were scattered everywhere, which I don’t understand because though I can’t say the same about the other areas, mine was perfect and I recall everyone clearing the store of returned items. The store manager came in that morning and started yelling at last night’s closing manager, who was on her day off that night and wasn’t even in the vicinity. My co-worker then claimed it was our fault that she received a citation, forgetting that we all were written up as well. This bitch is the abortive employee in the store and had the audacity to say some shit like that.

That being said, I wrote on the citation that it was outlandish for me to receive another one because I’ve done my part, and that the store manager needs to comprehend that it can be rather cumbersome working and make the store look nice when customers are behind you shopping and messing everything up, some potentially shoplifting. Also, I’ve expressed that she needs to learn where to direct her anger, and that just two people can’t make the store look beautiful without busting our asses, especially on busier days. Just by telling her to manage her again, I’m most likely out of a job, and the furniture manager excused it with her being bipolar.

She’s not bipolar - she’s a Type-A bitch who suffers from an idealistic mindset that consists of nothing but her unrealistic expectations.

lol a bipolar type-A female in retail with unrealistic expectations? Sounds like a real winner haha.

Just a shout to all perspective college students. Before embarking on a fruitless career with an English major. Consider the benefits or going to trade school or technical college.

Those are pathways to good paying jobs that can turn into a great paying career. Especially when you gear your education towards that job market.

I was a pharmacy tech for 5 years before pharmacy school. I also worked part time on the weekends as a pharm tech because my paid internship was pretty low paying.

When I finished up pharmacy school. I was already established in both retail and hospital settings.

Really helped my job searching.

Now I work a government job as a pharmacist.

But you can replace pharmacy tech with nursing, dentAl assistant, emt, paramedic, radiology tech, x-Ray tech, plumbing, electrician…

It is just so you can plant your feet somewhere with something tangible.

Or you can join the military. I suggest navy or Air Force and get that education through jobs they have set up there. Especially if you don’t want to see combat.

The wife stalking manager? Summons the popcorn

Welcome back doc. Glad to see you’re healed up and back on the scene again.
