Can someone list haggar’s pro’s and con’s can the list be non bias and legit please
Pros:
- instant invincible assist (lariat)
- great health
- able to deal exceptional amounts of damage without meter
- several high priority moves (Lariat, pipe)
- has a super that can be combo’d afterwards (rapid fire fist)
- headbutt can daze
- has a few unblockable setups
- command air grab can be whiffed intentionally used to kill time, throw people off, protect you from attacks
Cons
- Needs an assist to get in.
- Can be zoned out rather easily.
- Very slow normals
- lariat can be ducked, punished accordingly
- unsafe supers
- command grab (piledriver) has crap range and start up.
- slow walking speed, possibly slowest in game.
- whiffing L M or H in mid-air keeps the move active until it hits or lands, liability versus counter supers.
Pros:
- Dat pipe.
- Walks over 1/3 of the cast.
Cons:
- Free vs about 2/3 of the cast.
Can they give Haggar some Zangief range when it comes to throws? I mean there are tons of times where I find myself saying, “He was standing right next to me!” after pulling his level 3.
Also I’d like for them to give the pipe some chip damage, but that really could make him a bit too powerful.
Final Haggar Buster has plenty of range. Its his regular command throw that has terrible range among other problems rendering it useless. I mean what character in this game has a command grab they cant combo off?No one, so why cant Haggar, the ultimate grapper, combo off his?
Pipe doing chip damage would be reasonable in my opinion.Make it do as much damage as a blocked MVC3 Hadouken would be nice.Thats definitely not something thats gonna happen though.
haggar outright loses too dorm arthur phoenix modok storm trish if you beat any of these guys with haggar laugh at them becuase they screwed up bad ( like today beating a dark phoenix with level 3 super grab the tears over the mic was priceless) he has a harder then normal time with task amy and mags if he starts to spam disrupter everyone else he should be able to do some damage…
to fix haggar they need to do 2 things make his grabs have a bigger range and make one of his moves able to get through projectiles…like hoodlum launcher or violent axe give it super armor or make it like berserker slash im looking at you balance patch make it happen
Anyone privy to the range / uses of backdrop?
Hoodlum launcher being projectile invincible might be too good.
If hoodlum launcher M/H have the same startup as L then we’re talking.
One hit armor on violent axe means another useful assist.
More piledriver damage?
You know you’ve got a bad character on your hands when you’re already talking about what buffs the character needs so early on in the games life. The same thing happened on SRK in the Guy forums when SSFIV came out. I dont get any of this stuff in the Taskmaster and Doom forums.
Oh well, I’m gonna keep on playing Haggar.I dont think hes terrible but you cant ignore the fact that he loses to so many characters. That being said, I think the challenge of being able to have a solid and respectable Haggar on point is a challenge I want to take.
I picked up mahvel solely for Haggar. I’ll be sticking with him through thick and thin. Even if I’m more casual on this game as opposed to fuerte in sf4.
And yes. Guy needs buffs.
I don’t think he is that bad. I am glad he is viable, but I just wish he was more Zangief like lol. Going from PD in MVC3 to SPD in ST/HDR makes me think S stands for super. Where are my 6 ft grabs and grappler mixups? Where is my green hand?
I guess I will have to wait for either Zangief as DLC or a miracle balance patch. The pipe will have to suffice until then .
People don’t respect Haggar enough, in my opinion.
With almost 1500 games, 62% winratio (3rd Lord) and all games played with Haggar on point (Doom+Akuma as 2nd/3rd), the only thing that gives me major headaches are good ammy’s and weskers, who blatantly needs a nerf. (which is why I have Akuma).
Haggar with assists is such a beast. In fact, I doubt there is any character as strong for corner pressure as Haggar. You’ve got pipe+assists to keep them in the corner, and Hoodlum M for mixups. You can cover your hoodlum (which has quite a slow startup) with assists. His standing jab, into standing m, into violent pipe is completely safe and you can create some mindfucks if they don’t pushblock.
People don’t understand that the real danger of the pipe is the fact that your opponents expect you to pipe them in the face. I mean, you condition your opponent that on every jump-in, theres gonna be a pipe. A good player will know this and block/pushblock accordingly, especially on wakeup/corner wakeup. Haggars dash canceled down into a crouching jab is quite fast and catches pipe-blockers many a times. On corner wakeup, pipe-conditioned opponents will always try to roll out of the corner, which you can punish with a backdash into command grab/lvl 3.
Violent axe is crazily good as well. If my akuma tatsu assists hit, I can go for Violent Axe H (which people consider to be shit) and get a free combo of it (and akumas tatsu hits very often). In corner you’ve got the Hoodlum H reset which I still yet have to face someone who expects it first time around. One reset is enough to kill any character in the game with one DHC, and it works on all the cast. He’s got some neat “oh shi-” tricks as well, that can save his muscular gluteus maximus, like KFC into Lvl 3.
On top of that, he’s got a bunch of life and is a great battery. Teleporting characters can suck it because backjump+pipe beats most teleports. Sure, he looses to some of the cast, but that’s all theorycrafting. If you want to play Haggar, you need to get rid of the mentality of “oh well haggar vs character x is a 3-7 matchup boohoo” and manhandle them with the boss that is Haggar.
The only thing I’d complain about is that his command grabs are below average, especially FPD. I mean, he’s a beautiful butterfly, and you can use it to make your opponents whiff an Anti air move and punish with pipe, but it’s still very below average. What he needs is some sort of super armor on one of his normals (I would say on Violent Pipe, forward+h), simply because it feels like the move that is the closest to Sents launcher and Hulk’s b.H.
To be honest I don’t think Haggar needs any large buffs. If Haggar lands a hit on you and if you don’t lose 500K-700K right there you are playing a bad Haggar. The only thing I would want is for his command grab to be more useful because, come on Piledriving shit is fun.
Exactly. It takes many of the cast a meter + complicated combo to do the same damage haggar does on more or less every pipe you hit. Two pipes are usually enough to finish off anyone.
Haggar is part of my main team and yes, if I land two pipes on my opponent then they are dead especially seeing as Body press DHC’s nicely into Taskmaster which then DHC’s into Doom Sphere Flame if the opponent is in the corner.
Landing those two pipes is extremely hard though against most characters.A Magneto with sentinel drones assist can chip you down to about 50% before you even get within range for a pipe. Then if that pipe gets pushblocked then you’re far out again.Haggar can make up for the pushblocking with hoodlum launcher L but it doesnt push you right back in their face so you have to work again to get in.Characters with Teleports are a nightmare to corner.
Haggar’s main mixups are these:
1.Cr.H then use the invincibilty combined with Doom plasma beam or something similar, to make it ambiguous as to which side you are on.Then combo off the assist.
2.Use Hoodlum launcher M to grab them at unexpected ranges.Mix it in with hoodlum launcher L to keep them guessing.
The problem with mixup 1 is that getting into a state where you can roll safely with Cr.H is hard because the startup is so slow. A Magneto zoning with disruptors isnt gonna even let you get into that state. The same thing goes for a Wesker doing gun shots.
Mixup 2 is just high risk. Because Hoodlum launcher M is so slow your opponent can easily react with a neutral jump into a 600K combo on you.The M launcher also doesnt quite get in you in far enough to properly negate pushblock so often it whiffs just out of range and again you eat a combo. This is why Launcher M and L should have the same startup like people have been saying, it would create more mixup.I have been working on making Hoodlum Launcher M safe by calling Doom plasma beam assist beforehand though but have yet to try it out in offline casuals/tournaments.
Giving Haggar a command grab he can combo off of would make mixups after putting your opponent in a blockstring. It would make him infinitely better. If anyone else has any solid mixups with Haggar that I didnt mention post them here.
Call doom missiles, follow up with delayed hoodlum M while he’s in blockstun (time is so he gets grabbed if he doesnt hold jump after block, basically).
^Yeah I was experimenting with that in training mode a couple hours ago. You have to delay the piledriver a bit though which makes it harder to land as people wont just sit there when theyve got Haggar and doom missiles in their face. Also the damage is scaled badly afterwards.
It could work, but Doom missiles doesnt really work in my team synergy anyway.I also tried Taskmaster vertical arrows but they miss. What he needs is an OTG move that you can hit people with after the piledriver.
It works when they’re expecting a pipe.
I use Taskmaster to switch out Doom occasionally, simply because his damage output is ridiculous. However Doom missiles is the best assist for Haggar imo, having tried almost all of them to find something that works with Haggar.
OTG after Piledriver/backdrop DO WANT
With Dormammu’s Purification assist you can OTG after normal throws (call right after) and Backdrop (call right before you grab them). I couldn’t get it to work for Piledriver, but Doom missiles and Dorm’s 2C1D Liberation assist probably both work.
Has anyone gotten an OTG assist to work after a lvl3 grab aside from Deadpool’s KatanaRama?
from the guide: Haggar’s jumping light is an extremely useful move. It has high priority and as it constantly stays out as long as you’re in the air, it can cancel out numerous
anyone here want to vouch for this?
