He really should have had a shark piledriver assist. Make it an overhead.
Character-specific victory theme?
Anti air Psyblade.
I suck at MvC2 but I’m fairly sure it was her AAA. Wtf does Haggar do a jumping lariat?
You’d be better off with Ammy
Therefore, as Seth mentions that the running grabs can be hard to avoid in conjunction with the right assists, it is safe to assume that they ARE in fact unblockable?
I mean, if you could block them, no assist could make you eat a grab that you could basically nullify by down-backing.
Seems like a safe bet, as Seth said he had like 5 grabs. Grabs tend to be unblockable, or they’d be described differently.
The way I look at it, if you can block it, it ain’t a grab, just a hit with a throw-like animation.
Either you can OTG off of Piledriver or “lot of damage” needs some type of qualifier attached to it. Looking at potential damage of Haggar’s vs Skrull/X-23/Thor/Tron’s grabs is a pretty bad right now.
Faith partially restored. Even if the implication is there, there’s still not a complete confirmation that they’re unblockable, though.
I knew I wasn’t crazy thinking Lariat was gonna be really good as an assist. Still need invincibility confirmation on that too, as well.
Yea I’m starting to think that maybe each attack button gives him a different type of grab after he runs. Because at the moment I can’t recall Capcom ever making a grapple character that can both combo into a throw and combo after it. They tend to always make the throw unblockable with and option to combo after it, or they make it a “hit” throw that can be comboed into but blockable.
So maybe each attack button determines the properties of the running throw? i.e.:
A–a hit-type throw that can be used in combos, but can also be blocked
B–an anti air throw than can not be used in combos and can not be blocked
C–an unblockable throw that can not be used in combos, but you can combo after it
Maybe they are doing something like that? Who knows. We haven’t even seen his anti air throw in action yet, so I’m sure there’s more stuff to be revealed.
As for the whole “Psylocke” thing, perhaps he is talking about the lariat assist? It may juggle the opponent similar to her AA assist and it may come out with the same speed/activation. It’s probably invincible too, seeing how he takes damage during the normal version. I was thinking it would work like Chun legs assist, but if juggles even better then I won’t complain. :woot:
Funny how we are all so conditioned to think that omg his piledriver sucks! He’s gonna be terrible! When it seems like Capcom intended that and wanted us to focus on his running grab game.
…although I still want him to be able to OTG from it hahaha.
hmmm…that info changes things a bit.
Interesting thoughts Bronzefist. That could be both unique and effective for Haggar… We’ll see what comes out of it.
I think we’ve been thinking too much in Gief terms when it comes to Haggar. He may not even need the basic Piledriver attack if the other stuff holds up. I’d put money on basic Piledriver being able to punish almost anything if it leaves them point blank (a 0 +1 frame grab).
When ever I see this thread I think ‘Ace Ventura’ and then for some reason think it’s about Phoenix Wright.
The damage looks okay on its own, but it doesn’t seem like he has the ability to follow up after them very well… Unless I suppose the body slam hyper does significantly more damage on a direct hit… so when I say the damage doesn’t look impressive, I’m mostly looking at it relative to what Skrull and Thor can land off their command grabs.
I’m still wondering if that crouching state Doom’s in is just part of the hyper animation or if Haggar actually has a stunning move.
I could be totally wrong. FWIW they all maybe blockable (except the anti air grab–that would be dumb), but maybe he gets super armor during the running portion? Who knows.
It has to be Lariat. Invincible (hopefully) and allows for easy juggle for any character. What would push it beyond Psy Blade (and Chun Legs) is if Lariat is fully invincible the entire way through. That would make it really really hard to punish. Then the only major minus would be that you have to use it sparingly because of the self-hurt (but it’s an assist anyway, so you’d at least sorta offset that with the constant life gain).
Chun Legs seem to be on screen for a little longer, and it’s likely not invincible so she’ll be more prone to punishes when used incorrectly as well it not being as useful as a “get off me” move.
My problem is, again, why even give him an upclose command grab if it’s that bad. From a design standpoint, it seems lazy and that laziness tends to bleed into other aspects (see: MvC2 Chun, SSFIV Hakan, TTT PJack, etc.)
And from a fanboy standpoint, of all the characters in this, would you think that Haggar would have the worst command throw? Come on.
Lariat gives Haggar self damage even as an assist. That move better be simply amazing Capcom.
OH DEAR GOD, He misses with the assist and it still hurts him! Video 2 at 1:07!
I mean its just red health and it can be fixed fast but still…
Psylocke assist my ass.
There better be some killer invincibility on that move. Haggar ain’t no Pichu.
