The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Ok, late to the party but… Happy New Year to everyone.

I second this opinion, and in fact I think the main reason to tolerate Sakura from her very inception is the fact she aided to give more of a true personality to “mr. boringly eternal winner protagonist” Ryu. With time, she also got better from her unconvincing start.

LOL at “I love you” written phonetically with kanjis (愛羅部優 Ai rabu yū) on the Shinkansen viaduct’s pillar. Never noticed before.

I think it’s not a coincidence. No, I’m not insinuating he is Q (well, they could retcon him accordingly, but this screen is from Chun Li’s SFA1 ending, 1995, and Q didn’t appear until SFIII3rd, four years later…). His coat, role (he’s a detective, after all) and posture can resemble Lupin III’s detective Kōichi Zenigata; but his glasses, frown and toothbrush moustache instantly made me think to Osamu Tezuka’s character Acetylene Lamp, particularly in his role as a nasty¹ Gestapo officer in Message to Adolf:

http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/astroboy/images/e/e7/Lamp_Acetylene-127482-58645-1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20160701095437

I think it’s a homage both to Monkey Punch’s and Tezuka’s works at the same time. Then, Q himself is modeled after bits taken from a vast array of characters by Tezuka, Yokoyama and Ishinomori (the last two being former Tezuka’s assistants); but Tezuka’s Pero was the first, as Metropolis was first published in 1949.

¹ So nasty and cynical that in the manga it was he who did kill Hitler in his bunker, under Bormann’s order.

It really is the Tanden Engine that ruins the character. Without that, he’s just a guy with blue skin. Which is…tolerable. The Engine is the thing that makes it obvious that he’s a goofy fucking robot. And it’s in EVERY alt costume. They couldn’t even give us ONE without the engine showing…

Agree basically on everything, aside gave him “Psycho Crusher instead of SRK”

SRK work there as rep for Ryu/Ken style and after all many chars at this point looked able to use it
But more than that i feel like PC should remain some sort of Bison exclusive as something only him in the world can handle… since SF2 it ever looked the move that made him look in his own league above normal fighters

As U2 will have liked a long very fast pace combo where each strike is copied from somebody, like the result of all the data they stealed through years

The fate of his destruction and being a disposable character should always stay. Like Zero and Krizalid there defeat is dramatic I like the way SNK did with Nest bosses defeat. Because having multiple bosses that would become stronger and stronger than previous would need the other characters to raise their potentials like how anime does like Dragon ball.

Bosses like White, Kain, Grant from SNK games are better, Same with Urien and Seth. In Naruto having Kabuto to become a alternative boss to Orochimaru is a good way of replacing bosses or just having alternative bosses, That can be done also with Adon from Sagat, Urien from Gill, Seth to Bison.

Having too much megalomaniac tendency bosses and evil secret organization in one world with their own establish organization that goal is world domination while believing they are the strongest in the world and having greater perspective and control than others then comes another boss and organization independent from the previous with the same belief is kinda lame and inconsistent in their world, because sooner or later that would need a new bosses from space, parrallel dimension, underworld or spritual world. Complication would arise if there would be many strongest bosses in spiritual, physical, mental and financial in one fictional universe thats why many fictional media does prequel or reboot to justify their mistake.

If they are seeking stronger worthy opponent or out for world domination. Why don’t they just destroy each other or team up with each other? than giving a messing and wasting time with those heroes in the beginning. Evil Bosses should be an opportunist that is always be schemming and cunning to take advantage of others to justify their goals not dumb and clumsy.

Every Street Fighter games in stories should have been more like a short lenght part of a saga without conclusing season finale.

Agree its the tanden engine that is the most noticable in his the first impression, having it as a design makes Capcom oblige to make it bigger impact on his moves and personality. He should have been better as Cyborg, Android or whatsoever Mechanical man that Rebels that Dresses in elegance like SNK’s Nest bosses believe they are superior beings that can surpass their creators that would boost the intimidation factor in his character. Juri’s eye was better than the Tanden Engine in showing design of power source.

For those wondering how long it would take Chun Li to do her 8000 daily squats, I just made a rough estimation:

For narrative purpose i think the key is don’t let any of them have total clear hegemony over others bad guys

Treat them as big national mafias/terrorist groups let them have a strong hold over a particular area of the world, keeping mostly unclear who is the most powerful Boss or wich org will win if they clash

Or to make a HNK parallel, how the series portraied Raoh and Souther as super powerful rivals both with the potential to be one day “King of the World” without never show them clash (in the original series)… it was Ken, the hero, that at some point had to destroy them

Make a game have Xxx and his org as the bad guys, when Xxx is applying some kind of plan/power-up that if successful will gave him that hegemony over other bad guys too… wich will not happen because heroes kicking his ass* will prevent that for happen and sent him back into the cold war balance

As long each Boss can effortless kick heroes ass with a bored face and if his plan is successful his org will become a real world-level treat, he’s good for the role

Basically keep the “evil world” in some sort of eternal cold war, but with many power players involved… likely/surely they’re not all exactly on the same level, but each is strong enough to be a player and old his “kingdom” without be instant killed by others

No matter what SRK theologists claim, we don’t even have a clear idea about who is stronger between Bison, Gill or Akuma, and theyr level may change over time… it’s made on purpose

Example Akuma suckerpunching (suckerSGS) Bison was supposed to not be a “fair” fight, but more like an ambush that don’t offer a reply of who is stronger.
But many fans took it as Akuma>Bison, so Capcom just removed it lol

Even for Juri that know both, Seth level compared to Bison was a ??? (worse, she bet deadly wrong lol), wich was solved only when they fought

We don’t know if Urien one day will be able to learn some crazy secret Illuminati Technique (maybe a forbidden/dangerous one, because better dead than inferior to Gill for life) making him pass his brother as treat. Or if his labs/scientists will give him some power up

Or if one day Necalli will finally understand that he need to start the dinner from somebody he can chow, and from there starting accumulate power in some sort of snowball to avalanche rise

Or if some currently unknow (to us) char right now is doing the all the right steps and rising the ladder

SF should never take the DBZ route, because it will push things in that stupid escalation that not only bring retard exageration, but force to minimize previous boss (and by default previous cast)

*but i appreciated a lot Bison being the one to crush Seth, it was an original alternative to Ryu having to SRK his face and at the same time still feel legit without weaken the image of what was Seth’s potential.
Don’t feel like Seth was weak, but Bison being that powerful

Capcom can took character designs and fighting style from anime but they should never go towards modern anime character development that is shallow and every growth has never shown enough struggle that it may appear instant or behind scenes.

DBS character development is poor compare to DBZ even their world threats are justified by silliness like sweet foods.

S.I.N. was an okay as an evil secret organization because it is from Shadaloo. So if Urien had a secret organization it would be acceptable, but having Viper have another different and independent evil org beyond the knowledge and perspective of Shadaloo or Secret Society is kinda weird a. its like there is an all of a sudden another master of psycho power that has no connection, perspective or interferance with Shadaloo despite psycho power was the main plot. Bosses and Master skills and power should remain in vague and loosely in interpretion but alwayd better than the ordiray

Street Fighter should be not evolving fast per game but something like they just solve a potential threat by villains per game not destroying or ending them.

Like the how western cartoons in 80s and 90s give conclusion of every saga like Cobra in GIJOE that the Joes would end and stop Cobra scheme, or like the Avengers Cartoons that would destroy Dr. Doom’s inventions not Dr Doom. Same with TMNT with Shreder, But character development, rivalries, plots, motivation and confrontation should be like 90’s and 80’s anime. Nowadays everything from western and eastern fiction is like instant and automatically justified and should be just assumed like Trunks using Spirit Bomb Sword those were questionable even if they just adding a minor few minute flashback before the blow. Those instant flash back scenes works only in detective stories or crime investigation for misplacing objects or putting objects and being witness in the scened but not for hard earn trainning and special techniques.

I disagree. It’s the fact that he is naked, when at the time we just had a naked boss in the form of Gill. He just needed to keep the suit from TTTB on. It would’ve worked well within his character that he keeps his tanden engine hidden under clothing so that he can pretend to be a real person and not just another clone (all of whom were naked). Seth would’ve developed a love/hate relationship with his stomach, simultaneously the source of his power and a reminder of his greatest and most tragic of weaknesses. I’d go as far as saying that it should’ve been OUT of character of Seth to be running around naked the whole time. He hates his true name (15), so it follows that he would’ve done everything to disassociate himself from that identity.

@The_Shakunetsu
Agree, but you don’t need them to them to appear from “nothing”… the point of an imaginary World is that there are things that exist in it, without you have to see them until they cross the story’s path.

Also the Orgs we know are few and kinda localized (wich don’t prevent from strike around the world):

-Shadaloo having iirc it’s HQ in Thailand and (iirc) South America. Just starting something toward China (see Fang)

-Illuminati were seem likely localized in Greek/Egyptian/Russian area (basically south east to east from Europe pov), and btw they keep on purpose a super low profile as a religious secret society

-SIN i don’t know/remember where is located but for it’s nature (and Seth nature) it made sense appear from nothing

-Mad Gear Gang was Metro City located, and tbh felt (at least in FF1) like a pretty B-league criminal gang

-The SFA anime arc with Sadler/Rosanov, don’t remember the location, but feel more than anything your classic mad scientist thing

-Likely many will hate it, but if someway functional i will accept them even canonizing RE Umbrella, if adacted to SF artstyle/vibe and in it’s weak/low profile RE1 days

From there the World is BIG, i’ve no problem imagine other big Orgs having control of other areas… like
South/Central/West Europe (SFEX had “the Syndacate”)
North Europe
China (Fang’s clan was just one, not necessary the best)
Russia (Illuminati probably have bases there, but it’s BIG area)
Japan
Middle East (ok they will never have the balls for that one)
Africa
India
Central America
South America (Shadaloo had bases there, but it’s BIG area)

Some/many of these areas can easily have big powerful orgs (with powerful characters) that have control there or start from there, and the reason we never seen them it’s just that they did theyr business without cross previous SF chapters events.

After all even a kinda crappy gang like MGG had some very powerful members that are likely dangerous enough to be SF level and in some cases are becomed actual SFers

Shadaloo being the biggest evil don’t mean the entire SF planet have to be -ingame and visible- connected with it, if anything have other evil bastards will give credibility to SF universe

It’s kinda like when i say that i like CFN profile inventing total new fighters said to be good/strong even if they are there just as profiles that will never be used

To not count that “SF level” is’nt restricted to the very best ones anymore, see Sean getting destroyed by some anonimous bald pro fighter

SF world is supposed to be full of -super human- strong fighters, most of wich not SF level, but they create volume… also have many competitors give a meaning to be one of the best

See how it’s easier imagine Gief as a great wrestler character knowing that he will musclepower the fuck out of many known characters (like the whole MuscleBomber cast + various capcom wrestlers seen)… compared to, let’s say Honda who is surely a great sumo fighter but have no ground to prove it, aside his 4 random anonimous students.
Even if not sumo, Hakan being his rival did good to him as char.

You can add new bosses, new villains or even just new strong fighters… there’s space for everyone, and will feel wierd the contrary*

New faces don’t need to be DBZ asshole marketed in shitty way as way-better-than-old-ones, that’s retard, i agree

Reality is a New Boss as today not only don’t need to be 3 times stronger than Bison (DBZ approach), actually it can be not even equal.
SFV Bison at full power with machines was so OP that good guys had to team up to take him down.

A Boss that’s weaker than SFV Bison but still “normally” stronger than Ryu, can work perfectly as Boss if story direct events toward a 1v1 fight without Ryu’s happy friend be in the position to weaken the villain before

*usually who is against this is because “still waiting muh character”, more than SF universe not benefit from new fresh pieces on the chessboard

Totally agree

In Gill and Urien case being naked is functional to theyr greek god aesthetic inspired design
In Seth case it goes straight against his whole concept

Problem is as said iirc they dropped the initial (perfect) concept because it was complex to implement, while naked lab freak was easy in comparision

New orgs should came and stem from other previous orgs because even giant businesses that has the same agenda makes references of each other from research, previous success and by involving employers that came with the same nature from other businesses. While for gangs that is unorganized and ninja clan can be independent to each others.

Post SF3 I want to see the Secret Society fragment into two separate organizations. With Urien leading his as a corrupt corporation/PMC-type thing(possibly even taking over the S.I.N. brand), and Gill continuing to lead his as a fanatical cult.

Post-3S, I want to see the Illuminati headed by Urien, who massacred Gill, the old guard, and buried their religion. I want Urien to take the organization into a completely new and more straightforward evil/genocidal direction. I want the final remnants of the BU (Before Urien) Illuminati try to restore the cult (we learn they are actually good guys but the organization lost its way after the two brothers emerged on the scene).

This is the only way the Illuminati as an organization will be justified, and it will further differentiate them from the one true great evil of Street Fighter that is Shadaloo.

Kinda off-topic, but isn’t that Rose in one of the cards at the beginning of Nash’s story?

Seems to be her A3 artwork. What are we supposed to infer from that?

just an easter egg maybe

That would require killing off another SF character so, pass.

All S2 DLC characters leaked:

I do not want Gill to die; he works well as a different kind of villain to Bison, he should come back and be the final boss in SF6 (after 3, No more prequels God!) but he needs more than anyone a redesign.

No thank you, Urien is the boss of SF6.

Gill will be MIA (and obsolete).

Urien final boss for sf6… Maybe…

Strength-wise, he seems to be on the same level as Bison. But somehow i’m not sure he’d have enough charisma to do the job. Everytime i look at Urien, i get that “sub-boss” vibe from him.
