Damn, I gave myself away.

GLORY TO THE COMING EMPEROR! All hail the Illuminati!

Ryu is more than a capcom and street fighter poster boy, He is well known to be the pop culture icon of the fighting game genre history like Superman of western comic books and Goku of the japanese manga. They could have some beard for sometime but later on they would be trying hard or revert instantly for the nearest famed designs. Even other fighting games icons that have been aged so much is restored back to their iconic previous popular design with modernized look but not to be fashion trendy.

Losing his pop culture look for a trend that is ever changing could cause a damage and risk a lot of his establish reputation and identity. Ryu is more than a video game character it’s like Mario losing his mustache or jumpsuit. Street Fighter is a franchise that is more than a game in the past years. I’m always okay with modernizing and adding detail but keeping more of the nostalgic reference and identity in the design to protect the branding of the character.

They could only aged by adding a few bits of detail for latter sf like sf7-8? …

So apparently they might be adding Arcade mode.

I’m curious to see if they’ll expand the story with arcade mode. I’d like it if they showed what everyone did after A Shadow Falls. Maybe it could set up a second cinematic story mode.

reads past few posts

Scorpion and Sub-Zero are just as ironic as Ryu and NRS change their designs every game. Superman had his fair share of costume changes. Let’s not pretend Ryu’s pop culture status is the reason to not change his look.

.

This

Also it could be a legit way to put V.Rosso in SFV as the fake pizza-guy that they must pay, but they realize to don’t have money

“Who ordered QUATTRO PANORRRAMAA?”

New V.Rosso battle theme

Superman was just only modernized but the facial identity still remains to the closest and known.

It also like batman that cannot cover his lower part of the mask maybe a transparent facial gear in the future…

Ryu have changed more from hair and slightly for gloves(sf4-sf5 have changed also), karate gi and facial aged like superman and goku but making the beard as a main or regular look is a different thing.

Scorpion and Subzero has been known to be ever changing design with covered faces. They were iconic only for their colors and unique signature moves(Get over here and Freeze) or attacks unlike Ryu that is the reference icon of many 90s fighting games.

Today I want to look into the siblings that are cursed by bloodshed.

EX AAC:

Kairi is presented as a warrior that’s forgotten most of his past after suffering from memory loss. This might stem from the battle or event in which he lost the vision in one of his eyes. The unknown voice in his mind is what pushes him to walk the path of Asura. The screams you see from Kairi likely originated from that same voice that’s messing with him.

EX Ending:

EX+ Ending:

The endings are similar, but his EX ending mentions Akuma as the one who might be waiting at the end of Kairi’s path. There’s no telling if they ever had an encounter, but it was most likely considered at one point or another.

EX+ Alpha Ending:

Puts the Mortal Kombat 1 characters to shame. Yall remember the bonus stage.

EX2 Profile:

EX2 AAC:

Kairi lost his memories after falling down a waterfall fighting Hokuto. Since then, he’s been transformed into a murderous demon, seeking anyone with a fighting spirit. It’s inevitable that he or Hokuto will have to die by the others hand. The only one who might have a chance at stopping the bloodshed is Nanase, their youngest sibling. The killing power behind his techniques have changed along with his physical form.

EX2 Ending:

The sudden arrival on Nanase seems to snap Kairi out of the darkness he’s been enveloped in for so long. Hokuto was defeated by Kairi, but Nanase at least stopped him from finishing her off. He was now awakened with a new purpose to protect the sister he was never aware existed.

EX2+ Profile:

EX2+ AAC:

Well, it seems like the conclusion in EX2 was short-lived, or most likely never happened at all. Kairi is searching for Hokuto once again–looking to get rid of her once and for all. There are no happy endings this time around whether Nanase is around or not.

EX2+ Ending:

Kairi finally succeeded in finishing his sister off. The blood of Hokuto left him in an ecstatic state, while Hokuto could do nothing but enter her eternal slumber knowing that her brother will remain in the world as a vicious demon.

EX3 Ending:

Nothing has changed about Kairi. He’s still a murderous demon who has no hope of ever going back to the way he was beforehand. His memories only add to his anger, and there doesn’t appear to be anyone capable of saving him. Will Nanase be able to calm down the lost Kairi? Or will their sibling connection likely lead to her inevitable death as well?

EX3 Special Ending:

After being taken apart by Kairi, the fallen Hokuto is able to see a strong resemblance to her father before she loses consciousness.

Now it’s time to explore the sister. She’s just as brutal as her older brother.

EX AAC:

Hokuto is a naturally beautiful girl that comes from a bloodline of warriors. Not only has she mastered a variety of skills, but also created many of her own. She went on a journey to locate her brother after she became aware of his existence.

EX+ AAC:

Hokuto has finally learned about the seal placed upon her to suppress her assassin-like nature. The removal of it would revert her back to her true nature.

EX Ending:

EX+ Ending:

The endings of both games are similar. Her EX ending mainly revolves around her eventual meeting and fated showdown with Kairi. Her EX+ ending talks about her going to the “scene of the battle”, likely referring to her confrontation with Kairi. Breaking the seal seems to be an inevitable outcome.

EX+ Alpha Ending:

Spoiler

Hokuto defeats a pair of mysterious assassins with her amazing skill.

EX2 Profile:

EX2 AAC:

The fated showdown with Kairi resulted in Hokuto’s seal being broken. Hokuto might look a lot younger and cuter, but her brutal nature is on a whole new level this time around. Bloody Hokuto has basically been merged into the “normal” version of Hokuto during the EX2 story.

EX2 Ending:

Like Kairi’s ending, Nanase appeared as the battle between siblings ended. This time around, Nanase is able to reach out to Hokuto and awaken her from her “Bloody” state. Hokuto was now given a new opportunity to live a normal life, thanks to her younger sister.

EX2 Special Ending:

I guess this ending is how the showdown would’ve turned out without Nanase arriving to awaken Hokuto.

EX2+ Profile:

EX2+ AAC:

Hokuto is ready to kill Kairi. Before leaving to do this, she appointed Nanase as the heir of their clan.

EX2+ Ending:

The fated showdown between siblings. There’s no good that can come out of this. Only one of them would make it out of the battle alive.

EX3 Ending:

Hokuto is saddened about her brother Kairi and is filled with pain thinking about him. All she can do is visualize him. Hokuto’s looking forward to the day where this sadness will be lifted from her.

EX3 Special Ending:

Hokuto is able to defeat Kairi again, but she believed he held-back in their battle. Since the two are fated to kill each other, Hokuto was pretty baffled that he wouldn’t try his best in a battle of that magnitude. Perhaps a deep part of Kairi didn’t want to engage in the battle…

Bloody Hokuto EX+ AAC:

Hokuto’s equivalent of the Satsui no Hado. She’s far more deadlier in this vicious state.

EX Ending:

EX+ Ending:

The endings are pretty similar. Hokuto’s adoptive father realized the ramifications of Hokuto and Kairi’s unsealed state’s and what it meant to their bloodline. Knowing this, he seeks help from the youngest sibling, Nanase. He believes she’s the only one who could possibly save the siblings from the downward spiral they’re on.

EX+ Alpha Ending:

Hokuto stands on top of the rooftop, staring at the blood red full moon. The bodies of Ryu, Akuma, Ken, Chun-Li, and Dhalsim lie below her, having fallen prey to Hokuto’s ferocious unsealed power.

I enjoy the cursed story of Kairi and Hokuto. Probably the most significant plot point in the EX story. There’s so many cool aspects to it, too.

Ugh, so great. I really want to see them brought into the main continuity. Hokuto at the very least – her tragic battle with Kairi could have happened in the backstory already.

Tbh i will just have took it as Capcom repudiate -even more- theyr classic art style in favor of try hard to catch a new and foreign market.
The fact that they renamed it hot ryu as Negaf do, speak volumes about where theyr marketing guy is pushing

I’m not against Ryu getting a redesign, even of the standard look.
But give me a redesign that feel Capcom style and not some target marketing stuff

The thing that they’re using Kiki as part of art direction push SFV far from SF classic aesthetic canons, the 3D models trying hard to stay away from anime look for commercial reasons do the rest (and result in awesomeness like Ken or Alex faces lol)

I’m not against charadesign change, i’ve likely influenced Ken redesign lol

This was my post when Ken was still not even announced

Spoiler

Again, i’m not against change Ryu’s design, but imho it should follow SF design tradition

Even bearded Ryu could have been acceptable, but done like this (watch the face, current premium costume aside face is good. Scars are not needed)

There he look like an anime badass japanese old school ronin ready to cut fools in half.
But that was’nt theyr target, theyr target was a The Last of Us Ryu that kinda look western and audience-approved badass.

I’m ok with that since as alt can help sell, but fuck that thing as standard canon SF look

Tbh charadesign work in more subtle ways than you peoples seem to believe

ps: one can put bearded Kenshiro pic at this point, but bearded Ken never substitute Ken’s canon design, as it lasted like 1 episode… because even in post-apocalyptic world they thought fuck have that as canon design, Japan will have riot lol

Hot Ryu is still a very Japanese design, it’s just a barazoku design lol.

haohmaru sometime…

Sub-Zero was completely maskless in MK3.

Yup but it wasn’t pop culture identity that many have known him he was reverted to his covered face look as a default.

Speaking of Ryu alts

Give me this, just without the 2-days beard texture. Will spend money for this

He went maskless as his default in Deadly Alliance and it’s his story costume in MKX. Scorpion human look is his story costume in MKX.

The only sensible arcade ‘tournament’ mode plotwise right now is Karin tourney which was inconveniently interrupted by Bison.

I’m sure Karin as a final boss would be quite a polarizing experience, but hey it’s a new boss to say the least. Necalli can be a hidden boss, and maybe even FINAL BISON in his story mode outfit! You fight him in the destroyed Lair of the Four Kings and he has infinite V-gauge!

Alternatively, Capcom could forego story mostly and just make an amazing arcade mode experience…

…WITH FINAL BISON FOR THE BOSS!

Ok I’ll stop now.

I would completely accept Karin as a final boss. I have no trouble believing it.

Have Karin as the “final boss” ala the ring match in CvS2 arcade, but get 2 layers of secret bosses. Candidates are Urien, Oro, Bison, Necalli, Akuma, and Gill.

Remember how Seth got up after losing the first round and bragged about his limitless power? This time, I’d rather them actually power the boss up. They could do that simply by giving her an infinite V-Trigger with some additional damage. Karin’s a boss bitch, so might as well give her the right boss status.
