At this point, I’m not sure if we’ll even get a SFVI, or even if we should get one. Considering the amount of resources they’ve sunk into SFV, plus the fact that they seem to be laying tons of groundwork for a very long future (not just the fact that they’ve simplified characters’ movesets, but why else would they commission artwork for so many characters, both new and obscure?), plus their stated plans (Street Fighter as a Service), I think we’re just going to be getting SFV expansions for the foreseeable future, and possibly indefinitely. They’ll throw out updated versions for new hardware that everyone will have to move to eventually a la Dead or Alive 5 (which has been around since 2012 and transitioned from PS3/X360 -> PS4/Xbone, and I believe they cut off PS3/X360 support back in March), but there likely won’t be an SFVI for a looooooong time, if ever. There will also never be a SFV: Complete Edition either. They’ll just keep adding to it indefinitely.

They could add 6 characters a year, and maybe every two years have a big story update. Or maybe a big story update followed by a smaller story update (an epilogue, side story, or whatever). Regardless, don’t expect to find out what happens post-Third Strike for years.

I think SF5 will remain the platform for at the very least this generation of consoles (so another 5-6 years at least). But I do think we will get an SF6 at some point, especially if SF5 achieves its goal into growing into an esport in the coming years. Besides, after a while starting over with a clean slate is the only valid option to attract new players as it resets the barriers of entry.

Still holding on to the post-3S SF dreams though. I have been since the 90s, so what’s another decade or two.

And yeah this thread moves too fast sometimes (and I get a flood of notifications everytime). I think it will surpass the old Warrior’s Fate Thread in about 100 pages. The canon has been reinvigorated!
