Right. What also got me to think this was that in SFEX2 there was an M Bison II that would appear after the first one was defeated under certain circumstances. On top of the ability to create illusions, it seemed he could have doppelgangers of himself. He would even absorb into the fallen Bison to fuse back into his own power, which in turn would make him even more powerful. It also got me thinking that if Akuma actually did SGS M.Bison, maybe it was just a clone…

Getting back to the Ki manipulation discussion slightly above - do the series like King of Fighters, Street Fighter, Naruto, etc usually share the ideas behind manipulating the energy?

Like, Chun or Ryu manipulate their Ki and focus them in their hands/palms to produce fireballs. In Naruto, characters focus their Ki into their limbs to do their Justus. For example, Naturo himself focuses Ki into his hand to produce Rasengans, ninjas are taught to manipulate their Ki and focus it into their feet to stand on the water, etc

What about the rest?

I flipped through the SvC Chaos comic and in the end they had Mr Karate fight against Akuma…So Mr Karate is the Gouken of SNK

Bison to Vega: “Beauty is nothing when compared to all-conquering power.”

Doesn’t this quote sound weird to anybody else? We all know that Vega brags about his beauty all the time, but someone else acknowledging his “beauty” (and by someone else, I mean a MAN) just doesn’t sound very… heterosexual.

Like in Naruto, some of the most powerful ki techniques are the visible ones. The Chidori and Rasengan were originally something of a spectacle because of the fact that ki is not normally visible to the naked eye. None the less, you have characters who display the ability to use ki in its more subtle forms, mainly in the characters who are mostly skilled in Taijutsu like Neji or Rock Lee. Through their skills they are able to use chakra to power their bodies to deliver strikes with speed, power, and accuracy. Their chakra remains invisible until they start using higher level abilities.

I feel like the Street Fighters Gen (or Yang) and Makoto make good analogies to Neji and Rock. Gen and Neji use quick kung fu-esque styles, that are focused on multiple precision strikes aimed to disrupt or shut down an opponents ki system. Makoto and Rock on the other hand both use styles that are comparably as quick, but are developed with the intention of being crushing and hard hitting. Rock being more influenced by Bruce Lee’s quick and fierce JKD, and Makoto’s style representing the quick hard hiting strikes of a karateka. This and the fact that although Gen and Makoto do not use techniques that regularly display visible ki, despite what their attacks infer about them being experienced with it.

Gen is most certainly familiar with the Dim Mak (点穴 “press artery”), as his Shitenshuu (死点咒 Shitenshū, “Death Point Curse”) from Alpha, and Shitenketsu (死点穴 “Deadly Pressure Points”) from SSF4 are basically a reference to this. He targets multiple pressure points which are vital for delivering ki throughout the body, and shuts them down in an instant. Of course this causes his victim to visually seizure and convulse.

A similar effect occurs during Zan’ei (慘影 “Cruel Shadow”) and Zetsuei (絶影 “Severing Shadow”). The difference being in this case he is targeting one vital pressure point and forcing his own ki through it (in the case of Zetsuei multiple times). Because the ki implanted is of a foreign nature to that of the victims, the energy itself will attempt to violently exit the ki system, disrupting and damaging it in the process. This too will result in seizure and possibly death.

Makoto of course has her Tanden Renki (丹田練氣・攻めの型, “Dantian Refined Spirit: Form of Offense”) which allows her to tap into her ki to deliver stronger attacks. A lot of her techniques are already devised with crushing power in mind, and some are visually targeted in areas like the neck, stomach, or groin. All of which are very vital.

I’m not sure if the characters are able to use ki to enhance their mobility on a foreign terrain. We know that extremely powerful characters like Sagat and Akuma have gone on record as being able to submerge themselves underwater for unnatural extended periods. Sagat can hold his breath for over 20 mins, and Akuma can survive for an unknown period in the pressurized depths of the ocean! These feats are more than likely capable through ki, as any normal human strong or otherwise would die under those conditions.

Masculinity sure is extremely fragile these days. To acknowledge someone being attractive isn’t the same as wanting to screw them. And Bison isn’t even saying anything about Vega being beautiful. He just spoke about the concept of beauty.

Not always. The final boss of KOF 2003, Adelheid, is actually one of the good guys. The secret boss is a bad guy, but that’s different. Also, I don’t think Alex has been confirmed to beat Ryu at any time.

Alex defeated Gill and Oro defeated Ryu during the Street Fighter 3 tournament. Alex was getting his ass beat in his Third Strike ending, but he got back up and continued to fight. My guess is Ryu continued to whoop his ass.

Yes they generally follow very similar concepts. KoF and SF, for example, are pretty much identical in terms of chi techniques with an added twist of some inherited powers like the Kusanagi flames, etc.

People discussing SF plot and theories with so much passion… 23 pages…

What happened to the world during SF4 days? I mean… that whole argument that story doesn’t matter for a SF fan… that SF has no story… ‘gameplay > story’ and etc?

Stret fighter has a story jusy not an overall one that results in all the characters working together. Its more or less “whats this guy up to?” Ot “what was this person going through/doing during the main plot?” The thing is it’s not very consistent or very fleshed out.

Tekken is probably my best example of how I expect it (bias); you have the main plot, mishimas, amd then you have every other character doing their own thing or being affected (in)directly by the plot. However their not really part of it. The main thing though is it’s fairly consistent with keeping the stories advancing with the time.

We’re actually at around 80-something pages now but the previous thread was deleted. We’ve also been discussing SF’s canon for over a decade in the fan-fiction forum. Story matters, it mattered in every SF game that followed SF2’s success, and it matters more now than ever before. Capcom thinks so as well.

Not true.

SF has the Shadaloo arc (The main plot), then you have every other character interacting with this main arc, being affected by it on varying degrees, and then you have each characters’ own personal motivation or subplots. Then you have the common and ubiquitous theme of ’ wanting to become the best version of themselves that they can be’ which draws most character’ plots together.

Well I started “following” the story at 3S. My pov on it is a little skewed anyway :p. How well written was the characters’ story prior to 4 (which is suppose to be the retelling??)

Tekken is notorious for making everyone except the Mishimas…no, everyone except Jin “I don’t lose” Kazama look irrelevant.

Wang’s TTT2 ending basically confirmed that Harada and co. don’t take their own characters or story very seriously. SF story is filled with nonsense and retcons, but at least you get the feeling that a larger percentage of their characters are actually important to them.

I hope Capcom definitely does NOT go the Tekken route, because if you aren’t a Jin Kazama super fan, then the Tekken storyline really has no meaning to you.

Yet we still have no clue what happened to Jun…or how she and Kazuya had kid together. One of the most fundamental, pivotal storyline details in the entire series. And, 19 years later we STILL HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS HAPPENED…

The Tekken story fails because it doesn’t focus entirely on Bryan Fury being hilariously, belligerently insane. I want an anime series that’s just 22 episodes filled with 22 minutes each of Bryan wielding Abrams tanks as melee weapons.

Make it happen, Harada!

My opinion:

SF1: 2 out of 10
SF2: 4 out of 10
SFA: 6 out of 10
SFA2: 10 out of 10
SFA3: 8 out of 10
SF32i: 7 out of 10
SF33s: 8 out of 10

Alpha series have definitely been the best so far.

Yes, because they had their own internal continuity across all 3 games, a story that unfolded from start to finish and then some. I believe that the Ono SF games, whether they are just SF4 and SF5 or they end up being a trilogy and beyond will be the most cohesive part of the timeline in the SF series. To put it in another way, it is as if SF4 was Alpha 1, SF5 is Alpha 2, and SF6 will be Alpha 3.

The Alpha games are what made me a massive SF fan. Before that I loved Street Fighter thanks to Super SFII on Genesis, but once I got Alpha 2 and then 3 on Saturn I played them obsessively.

Da hell did I trigger? Did you not see that I said I was biased seeing as my avatar is a picture of King and literally wrote I was being biased? (It’s also the only other fighter I play)

Buuut since I’m bored I might as well correct you on some instances and remind you that it’s a matter of opinion and to avoid getting hiffy about it layer. In the grand scheme of things everyone is irrelevant since the Mishimas are written as the strongest, and well it’s a plot that revolves around them. Also, your not even considering the individual stories like King/A.King/Marduk. All I suggested were small stories like this that don’t impact the main plot, are canon, and build character. Not to mention unfold over the course of several games.

TTT2 is a side game, that’s all I need to say about it. There are a few canon things in it though (steve and leo endings for starters). I’m not going to get into jin since I don’t much about him. Jun is a plot device that’ll be used probably in T7 and was mentioned in T4 I beleive.

Saying that the story would have no meaning to me ot anyone just because it’s not a Mishima is a pretty dumb thing to say. Thats like saying if your character isn’t Bison or Shoto their story is worth it’s weight in piss. In Tekken just off the top of my head there’s:

King/A.King/Marduk (<3)
Steve/Nina/Leo
Bryan/Yoshimitsu (i dont get this one as much)
Mishimas/Ling
Eddy/Christie
Lei (i forget what he’s up to post T4)
Jinpachi/Wang
Raven/Lars/Alisa
Paul (short end of the stick)
Law (see above)

Obviously though I lean towards my boys.
