FANG did a lot of jobbing, but he kept getting back up. Usually immediately.
Yeah FANG actually acquitted himself quite well as a fighter. Dude is legit.

I had a werid
Except there is no evidence that he’s actually dead. They could have easily made a full scene of him crying over Bison’s demise only to show him panic as the ceiling cave in on him, but they didn’t.The place was crumbling but the last shot of F.A.N.G he is still visibly alive. Like it or not F.A.N.G’s character is based around surviving insurmountable odds. His life as a child assassin, his bout with Bison, being dropped off a ledge, why is it surprising he could have survived this? I can understand wanting to see a death be permanent but that’s not how video game narratives work, especially fighting games. I like playing as Fang I wouldn’t be terribly upset if he didn’t show up a playable for 6. I do think he still deserves a role in the sf lore going forward, what we got from him wasn’t enough imo.
Every time I see that Dictator costume…all I can do is think about how much Capcom squandered a great opportunity in making the final showdown as epic as possible. Damn, it’s annoying just wondering about it.
Well like I said, this is capcom’s first try. So, hopefully on the next story arc they get proper feedback they need and improve the second and onwards.

Re: FANG
FANG is high tier IMO. What he lacks in sheer strength or power he more than makes up for in endurance. This is the main reason why I think FANG survived A Shadow Falls, because that’s what he is - A survivor. Growing up he literally had to poison himself incrementally for years just to survive the trials of his clan.
What bothers me most about this is that it wouldn’t have taken much resources to make it epic. They had the costume, they had the stage, all they needed was a unique boss gauge (infinite V gauge and fast charging ex gauge) like in Alpha 3. They literally put more effort in making secondary characters like the dolls and Shadaloo grunts than the final battle. It would’ve been nice if they gave Bison unique boss animations (floating walk animations like boss Oni in SF4 or a new CA even), but they didn’t need to, it was all mostly done already.
Don’t get me wrong, they got a lot of things right about the final battle. But perfection was RIGHT THERE WITHIN THEIR GRASP!!! Why didn’t you claim it Capcom?! WHY?
Also, I love the final battle theme, but shit undoubtedly needed to be a reinvention of Brave or Grave. It’s like, THE theme.
Re: Balrog x Necalli
Something else that has been bothering me lately is Balrog’s fight with Necalli in his character story (which is absent in Urien’s character story that shows us the same event). Bison explicitly makes note of Ryu’s ability to defeat ‘the beast’, implying that it is unique and a demonstration of the readiness of Ryu’s power. The Warrior Prophet made no mention of Necalli and Balrog fighting too. It may be a small fight but I think it takes away from what little integrity and purpose the character of Necalli has.
Balrog did not need to fight Necalli. Necalli should be able to body Balrog if a fight were to take place. Besides this, Necalli shouldn’t even be present during the time of Balrog’s prologue because the crisis that lures him out has not been created yet. It’s such a lazy oversight on the part of the writers this one. They could’ve had Balrog fight Urien (like in Urien’s character story) or they could’ve had him fight any random jobber like Birdie. This is the kind of inconsistency that will haunt the canon for years.
Honestly, that’s just something that urks me. For this to be Capcom’s first effort at a cinematic story mode, I came away satisfied. I remember talking about this way back, but the idea of different paths being unlocked would make it even more fun. I like the idea of altering the plot by winning under special conditions such as landing a Critical Art, losing, letting time run down, winning with a perfect, etc. There’d have to be a limit, of course.
Just imagine Karin losing to Enero. She’d get mocked by her own HOHOHOHO laugh before being smashed in the face with a megaphone. Sakura would have to magically step-in on some Tuxedo Mask shit to save her ass. No one would complain.
I feel ya, Daemos. If Bison just had a boss exclusive Psycho Crusher like he did in Alpha 3, I would’ve been content on the final battle.

I would’ve loved if there were alternative pathings that lead to side missions or subplots but nothing that changes the outcome. Mainly because for once I really enjoyed watching canon happen unquestionably in real-time. Not wondering which ending happened and which didn’t.
Yeah, I would also prefer the ending to be intact. I’d just like the path to it to differ depending on certain conditions.
Also, I was thinking about the Balrog battle with Necalli, too. It not only appeared to be hella random, but Urien seemed as if he was expecting Necalli to just show up. He quickly came to the conclusion that Necalli must’ve tracked them down for some reason. I considered the possibility that Urien orchestrated the battle to get a better feel for Balrog through a specimen obtained from Dr. Kure or something. However, since it’d be impossible to clone Necalli by this point, it’s just a plot-hole. I guess they wanted to make Balrog look tough by defeating an ancient warrior.
Unless the Necalli was Eleven.

Thing is, that Necalli is absent in Urien’s prologue which retells the same exact meeting. So which of the two is the truer depiction of the same event? Given that New Information > Old Information, and that Urien’s prologue will technically be released after Balrog’s, I’m inclined to believe Urien’s perspective on this event is truest, so Balrog and Necalli may not have fought at all. This is the best way I can make sense of this.
Honestly, I’d be fine with Urien’s prologue overwriting Balrog’s. I do like the idea of Urien wanting to see if Balrog is worthy enough for the job instead of just giving it to him, though. Urien seems like the type that’ll make you prove your worth instead of taking your word for it.
Lol Balrog’s prologue is being recounted by Balrog.
So when Urien beat his ass Balrog was like “Yeah so…I had this meeting with this guy…but like this crazy monster-dreadlock-dude showed up and I BEAT HIS ASS!” “Uh…Mr. Balrog, that’s not what Ed said happened-” “I BEAT A MONSTER-DREADLOCK-DUDES ASS!” “Yes, sir, Mr. Balrog! Sorry, sir!”

This thread is the concrete proof that SF universe got fantastic characters/plots to work with. Unfortunately, Capcom wastes so much time not making an anime.
It’s a shame…real shame. It would be another money make for capcom…if they did it right. They can make it non-canon too. Then they could do almost anything they wanted with it.

Hm…I remember tekken on the 3ds having the story mode on side B and the game on the left.
Capcom could go that route or make the story mode open worldish [if they go beyond that point haven’t touched it yet]
Balrog seems like the type to fabricate a story to make himself look cool. I wouldn’t doubt it. That explanation actually makes sense. This is the same guy that said he was going to fuck Urien up when the mission was over, so we know he loves to pipe himself up.
It’s balrog, get rich, live the high life. What do you expect from him?
Nothing. I just know Urien would sit his ass down very quickly if he decided to raise his fists to him. Now that I think about it, I wouldn’t mind seeing this.
