O.k., I watched the story mode. Andā¦I wasnāt impressed. The trailer looked like this would be much more epic. All they did was collect those chess pieces from various locations, then go to Bisonās base, then come back, then go there again and then they defeat Bison.
For example, that Shadoloo spehere/moon was build up as some huge plot device. But when it EMPed New York, nothing was really made out of it. The impact that this had was only told in scenes off-screen from the impact. There was one scene when they were in New York and all they did was stand in an empty street and in a bank.
Did they ever actually use the effect of the sphere for their advantage? Did I miss something?
I imagined major consequences for the plot due to that sphere. But nothing. At least Bison could have wreaked some havoc in New York.
Then thereās the thing that the heroes mostly work as one group. So, many of the individual fighters could have been replaced with different ones and it would still have been the same story.
Zangief, Ibuki, R. Mika etc. were just good guy #1, 2 and 3. You didnāt have, for example, Zangief and R. Mika investigating stuff in the wrestling circuit or something like that. They were just generic RPG party members.
Even some of the main characters suffered from that: Guile and Chun Li werenāt out for personal reasons any more than the others.
Then thereās the fact that the previous games built up that āCharlie is still aliveā plot for Guile. And now that Charlie is finally there again: Nothing. Again, Charlie could have been just some generic old enemy of Bison.
Also, do they live in a giant amusement park that is modeled after various countries? Otherwise, how come that Juri can ride on a motorcycle from Brazil to Great Britain? Or Rashid, Charlie etc. casually walking from Karinās mansion in Japan to some bar in Russia?
The pairings of fights also often had few character connections. It was mostly one group encountering another one and then the pairings were done randomly.
Necalliās plot was a total waste. He was presented as the next big danger, apart from Bison himself, being some cosmic entity that appears in a time of crisis to devour the souls of warriors. But he didnāt do anything and then just got defeated by Ryu just like that, never to be seen again.
They kind of recycled Guileās āAlpha 3ā ending with Charlie sacrificing himself, only this time it didnāt accomplish shit. And again, there was no reaction by Guile whatsoever. Chalieās dead again, but nobody seems to care.
Well, thereās one good thing about that story mode: From now on I can claim that I myself personally inspired the ending of it.
Remember the artwork that I constantly brought up to prove that Ryu was the winner of SF2 and that it cannot refer to any other event?
Caption:
āAfter Ryuās magnificent battle, news of Vega ceased. However the guy will surely return. Becoming a revenging demonā¦ā
I was probably the only one on the internet that ever mentioned this artwork in the past years. Other than that, itās a totally obscure artwork hidden in some age old artbook from 1992.
And now, the ending of SF5 not only has Ryu defeat M. Bison. We also have this:
So, thereās only one logical explanation: Capcom saw my arguments about SF2 (either here on the forum or in my essay) and they decided to prove me wrong by including that ending and that specific scene with the hat, so that one can claim that the artwork refers to the incident in SF5.
Yup, thatās the only logical explanation. B)
Or at least I can pretend it is. =)
