Holy crap, let’s not get this arguing crap started again. Cammy’s cool, I like her, I don’t think she’s S-tier, you guys wanna keep on debating, take it to pms so the thread doesn’t implode again.
And this is right where I’d pair up the fire of Charlie with the military might and funds of Rolento. Charlie + Rolento would be an awesome team of epic proportions with legitimate power to threaten groups like Shadaloo or the Illuminati…or even governments themselves
I would kind of like a hybrid, something closer to BB. It would be nice if depending on what happens in a fight affects which path you go down in story. Would add some replay value. But if they want a clearly defined story, I guess it would have to go on a specific path. I would just hope it’s closer to MKX and not BBCP where you only played as like 3 people. I would like at least the majority of the cast to be involved.
Would people rather have the Bengus art, anime cutscenes, or the in-game models to be used to tell the story? I would like the anime for the production values and fluidity, but I could be fine with any.
Okay since we’re short on new information, I’d like to put this venn diagram up for discussion. It’s meant to categorize all the known Street Fighters’ fighting styles/strengths/powers based on what we know of the character’s backgrounds. There are a few ones that were a bit confusing (Blanka for example), and some that I am unsure about (e.g. Gill, Urien, Dhalsim, Akuma) but overall I think it is mostly accurate.
If anything I would feel that Blanka would fit in with Mystic x Martial Artists section. His skills are all self taught, and his electrical prowess comes from observing electric eels. If you would list Necalli as a straight mystic, I feel Blanka would fall into the same category, or cross between Martial Artists. The end result of Ryu 's training would probably be put him in this category as well.
Seth would fall into the cross category with M.Bison, I feel. With the whole Tanden Engine aspect, the Eight Trigrams adorning around it, along with the many mystic references in his stage, his power would stem from all three. Seth himself might be technically enhanced, but the energy powering him his mystic in nature. Same with Juri and Decapre, although they hold less of a the mystic connotation about them.
I listed Necalli as mystical mainly because of the SNH that fuels his non-existent fighting style (according to his SFV ID card, it’s just brute force).
Blanka was confusing to me. I put him with there mainly because I saw him as a mutant (my bias), but I am not sure if the mutation was scientifically or mystically motivated.
The reason I put Seth as technology only is because he was created as a blank slate , and purely through technology he was able to copy almost any fighting style or chi or power level. The character did not receive any formal training in anything as far as I know. You’re completely right about the Eight Trigrams and the mystic references, it’s just that once you take away the technology he becomes a mannequin and would not be able to draw power from them. This is the same reason also why Juri and Decapre are where they are. Even if their power can be seen as mystical in nature, it is harnessed by technology rather than training in or mastery of a mystical art. One could make a case that Decapre’s power stems directly from Bison who likely imbued her.
I am not sure if Gill and Urien were genetically engineered or had their bodies enhanced with biotechnology. I don’t think they were, they were just bred a certain way possibly. If anyone can confirm or deny this that would great.
I think pretty much everyone that has a fireball would be in that martial art/mystical crossover section unless we’re using the term “martial art” loosely.
You’re seeing things from the point of view of our reality. I reserved the mystical category for the supernatural or extraordinary fighting abilities (by the Street Fighter universe’s standard). The stuff that borders on magic relative to their world. Every fighter utilizes chi, harnessed through training or technology, this is why I hesitated to put someone like Blanka or Ryu there because their chi is part of their martial art. Then we have the SNH which is technically a chi, but I find that it has recently crossed over into the mystical side of things with its incredible feats and the way it can morph the human body.
Need? Of course not. Useful as a tool of military propaganda? (un)Living, breathing proof of the corruption of the current government regime and the brutal price soldiers pay for that corruption? Charlie could be Rolento’s Big Boss as far as rallying troops to his cause. That is invaluable.
I’ve always thought of folk lore and legends when it comes to Blanka. I like to see him as SF’s version of Tarzan mixed with the Green Children of Woolpit. I thought the whole experimentation to mutate Charlie into him from the live action SF movies was hokey.
I see what you’re saying regarding Seth. If anything, I would’ve listed Seth as Mystic x Technology because of the tech he uses. The ki boosters aren’t tech like electrically discharging gloves, rocket boots, or jet packs. They’re made to produce and cultivate “life energy”, which in itself should be esoteric and mystic.
To add to this, some characters who have “fireballs” might not generate them through the obvious use of ki. Take Laura for example; who can create a “fireball” from the static electricity generated from the friction of rubbing her hands through her hair. Although she may manipulate the static shock through the use of ki, she seems to be consciously unaware of using it. Her win quotes regarding her electricity make it sound; as if she see’s it as so common that anyone can do it, which is partially true.
In contrast, someone like Dhalsim might see his stretch powers as simple. But he also realizes someone would need extensive training in Yoga before it would become simple.
Which is why his win quotes on the subject usually include an invitation to learn from him.
Also, some characters like Makoto have an obvious control of “ki” through the use of her katas, but no fireball manipulation. So a martial artist of SF might have an understanding of ki energy, but might not use it for specific “fireball” purposes. While other characters can create fireballs, but the “fireball” itself might not be composed of strictly ki.
I like that in the Rainbow Mika illustration the logo behind the wrestlers is a parody of the New Japan Pro-Wrestling one but I’m not so convinced about the new Yoko design.
Some more Bengus art with F.A.N.G and his team, maybe, and Birdie disguised as chubby Dictator.
