The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Man… they really need to just retcon SF3’s story. I mean they can use the characters and stuff, but forget about trying to tie shit into it and just make a good cohesive story.

I’ve always believed that Dhalsim should have been the guy to help Ryu overcome SnH. You know… yoga and meditation and shit. Ohwell.

Too late for that. In any case, this game should be the last tie-in game and it should create a ‘cohesive’ string of events from SF1 to SF3 and everything in between. We ought to move beyond 3s next (if there is a next that is).

I agree about Dhalsim too. They didn’t need to bring back Gouken for this, Sim or even Rose would’ve been perfectly capable of taking on that mantle. Rose has already expressed an interest in his well being, so really she is ideal. Especially given her background and relationship to other characters and the main arc.

As much as I like Gouken, he is a character that should’ve stayed a dead NPC (unless we do a flashback sequel that takes place decades before SF1). Mainly because it took away from Akuma’s backstory. I guess having Akuma kill Goutetsu is enough badassery for one character.

haha

Remembered the Sf2v anime where ryu and ken fight each other thinking they were fighting oni statues

That would make Dhalsim a more interesting character than the guy that fights for his village.

I hope Bison/FANG kills Noembelu to make T. Hawk fucking angry at Shadaloo and do at least something worthy, because otherwise he has NO fucking story whatsoever, he’s a blank state, a useless character, much like Honda

I’d like to add, for those who don’t think that a given character should possibly beat Bison, that we’ve been spoiled by Dragon Ball’s fights where the winner is usually the one with the higher power level/the bigger kame, or Ryu’s fights in SFA Animation and The Ties that Bind where he simply wins the fights by throwing one prefix-hadouken, but there are actually many ways a character can win without being stronger than the opponent. This is typical in fiction, to beat a superior villain just when it seems impossible.

For example, hmm… letsee how we could do it with Chun Li. Feel free to come up with a way for your character of choice.

Bison’s plan is about to culminate and Chun Li appears just in time to stop it. They fight.

Bison gets the upper hand. He is faster and stronger, but Chun Li still manages to land her hits here and there. She can’t lose today while it’s up to her to stop Bison’s plans. Bison is winning, but not by an unsurmountable amount, so he will have to use a big move if he wants to beat her, since she is going all out.

After an exchange of hits at the climax of the fight he glides back and comes forward with his SFA3 ultimate Psycho Crusher. Chun Li does the only thing she can; she jumps forward and meets him with her Shichisei Senku Kyaku (the 1-hit “Raging Chun Li” air kick super from the Marvel series).

Typical anime clash. The Psycho Crusher is stronger and Bison pushes forward. Chun Li’s leg starts to bend at the knee. She clenches her teeth as the leg is forcefully retracted, but she manages to release it by surprise in a single, arched lightning kick that lashes at Bison’s hands from the side putting them out of alignment, and bam!, she snaps back to the Shichisei Senku Kyaku and crosses Bison from teeth to ass. Bison receives the full power of the super kick AND his own Psycho Crusher.

Both fall to the ground at opposite ends. Chun Li gets up limping while Bison is knocked down unconscious, but alive. Chun Li walks up to Bison, contacts Guile, who tells her what to do to stop Bison’s plans. She lets Bison be and does her stuff on the machinery or whatever. As she finishes, she turns around, Bison is getting up, they look at each other, he laughs if you will, and he teleports away.

Big explosion happens because reasons and Guile and Cammy arrive to rescue Chun Li. Maybe she’s alive because of something they did. Bonus points if Chun Li appears walking through the smoke in her underwear spandex unitard with her torn clothes on her hand or whatever badass scene you may think of. Needless to say, one boot got disintegrated in the final clash.

And that’s it. There we’ve got Chun Li defeating Bison convincingly without implying that she’s stronger than him, just with bravery and a stroke of genius/skill/luck/ingenuity/whatever, and that was not even exploiting the environment. It’s not even hard to write, just a matter of willing to do it.

How could Guile beat Bison? I don’t know, maybe a similar tactic to the one that Ryu used in Masaomi Kanzaki’s manga, by doing a bait sonic boom and meeting Bison’s Psycho Crusher with an Ultra Flash Kick to the chin when he doesn’t expect it. How could Cammy do it? Maybe managing to grab him somehow or using her “Maximum Spider” move to strike sideways and veer the course of the attack to make him crash, then snapping his neck. How could Sagat do it? How could Juri? Nash? No problem. There are lots of ways.

Worst case scenario, you can always do it the brain-dead way, like Ryu did in the SFA Animation and The Ties that Bind. Power up, epic music, close up, single power move, opponent doesn’t dodge or block, and yep, victory.

Why would she need to be killed? She’s still kidnapped and brainwashed.

It’s not like T. Hawk is just gonna go “Oh, well, as long as she’s not dead, I guess it’s fine.”

We just talked about this on my radio show yesterday.

Two words.

Arkham Beyond.

That would invigorate the franchise to insane levels both in raw gameplay as well as presentation & story.

Ironically, I think SF needs that same level of story reinvigoration and repackaging. It’s one of the reasons I’d be SUPER okay with an SF reboot.

I still say after Arkham City, they should have just gone to Gotham City.

I could almost get behind that.

Just go back to the idea of Sagat holding a tournament to see who the strongest fighters in the world are, just because he wants to know. Only this time, with a lot more characters participating.

Shadaloo is still a thing, but they basically just have warriors attending to scout out strong fighters for their own nefarious plans later.

That just reminded me of the BS wins the Avengers got in Avengers VS X-Men. Iron Man beating Magneto, my god.

Well, in my (and Chun’s) defense, he did kill her father. Not that I don’t want him to die, because he’s an awesome character, he makes Capcom money, and is such an iconic villain that killing him would mean rebellions in the street. But he deserves to die from his crimes.

Is there a “Like OVER 9000!!!” button?

NOw that, I like. except I see the ending more like a final decision Chun-Li has to make: She could either Kill Bison where she stands and finally complete her revenge, OR she could stop Bison’s plans from culminating. As she leaves to spoil Bison’s plans, Nash comes in and actually delivers the killing blow on a defeated Bison.

'Cuz at this point I’d take anything just to give T Hawk SOME motivation and character development, which there were none for over 25 years since his debut in SuperSF2

so that explains why she never got married and have children lol

they did a good way in the aftermath of Viper in Sf4 all of them against him, or something that Kyo and Iori did together against orochi chris,

Honestly, I hate the idea of a character being made just to be killed so they can be motivation for another character. It’s like one of the most overused tropes in anime/game/media.

A better way of motivating Thawk would be something like having him go after Bison because he holds the key to curing her coma like state.

I’d love if T. Hawk was just this near-silent, giant (literally and figuratively) hard-ass that is fighting JUST to get Noembelu back…but ONLY for her. Anyone else? He doesn’t give a damn. Other characters can try to convince him…appeal to his sense of justice regarding the other Dolls, etc, etc…and T. Hawk would just be “Go to hell. My people are my business. Anything else?” walks away without another word

Make him legitimately close to being an anti-hero.

Guile - “We can use a guy like you”

T. Hawk - “Not interested. Move”

Guile - “Just…listen to what I have to say!”

Hawk - “Wrong choice”

Fight ensues. Make T. Hawk that guy. We don’t really have anyone like that in the game other than maybe like Nash but he was a goodie goodie before so he’s more tragic now where-as Hawk is just undeniably, irrevocably his own man with his own goal.

@YagamiFire We literally have Charlie filling that Anti-hero role right now with exact same attitude as the one you propose for Hawk

Meh.

I just don’t buy it as how Nash is legitimately acting. He’s super inconsistent even in the short amount of stuff we’ve got in the prologue. He isn’t this driven, anti-hero hard ass when he interacts with Ed. He just generally sounds a little more “all business”. The whole “get out of my way or I’ll kill you” intro seems truly inconsistent with a lot of other things we’re seeing from him.

Then again, EVERYTHING in SFV seems to be all over the place and inconsistent so…I’m taking it with a grain of salt.

Also, Hawk looks far more the part of silent, stoic bad-ass than Charlie does. Hawk could be the (not quite but almost) Kratos of the series

That edgy anime cliche cool guy attitude isn’t really fitting for Hawk imo.

I think Dhalsim might be tied to Ryu in someway during SFV story mode, I think Ryu may even be seeking him out. The SFV character relation chart has Ryu showing respect for Dhalsim which is a connection I’ve never seen referenced before previously in canon, let alone them knowing one another. I would just assume they would, but for Ryu to have a main cast connection with only Ken and Sim for SFV would imply they’re both playing a role that revolves around Ryu in some way.

I’m guessing Dhalsim’s serene Yoga teachings are the perfect tool for controlling the SnH.

Well necalli is most likely a one time character. Bitch is gona have his soul implode from all the devour our hour. Then the SNH is gona go back into ryu. AND THE CYCLE BEGINS AGAIN!!!
