The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

And just for the record, I recommend everyone play through Street Fighter Alpha 2s story, or watch on YouTube, literally with everyone. Between the guest encounters halfway through and the final storyboards which are georgeous and well done, besides 3S and I guess ST they were the best done stories period in Street Fighter history.

And while some of the stories are obvious “what if” scenarios, you’re getting real game cannon from, well, you know, -the games-.

The stuff in the comics takes liberties and shouldn’t always be accepted as truth/cannon but is sometimes made official sometimes not. This applies to the various anime manga etc as well. I like some of the animated SFIV stuff pariticulary Poison’s ending but in terms of actually moving the story forward it does next to nothing for anyone. Still better than A3 though lol.

Yeah, Sagat was just confused and blind with rage after losing to Ryu. I always liked the idea of Sagat and Ryu’s Alpha 2 fight in the rainy grassfield being canon. I know Sagat eventually realized that getting revenge wasn’t the answer, but I liked the idea of Sagat beating Ryu before realizing this.

While I think he would’ve eventually left Shadaloo regardless, it seems like Bison brainwashing of Ryu really pissed Sagat off. Sagat always thought Bison was going to help him find Ryu, but he never thought he’d have to stoop so low just to reward him with a rematch. Speaking of Bison, when going by his win quotes, it almost makes it seem as if he never respected Sagat. His SSF4 win quote has him saying Sagat was always a “loser” and that he’ll be one forever. That’s disrespectful.

Bison and respect?
He respects nothing. You could kill him, the moment he appears with a new Body he will laugh at you again.

There were some instances of story differences between SFZ2 and SFA2, but as far as I know this only happened in Evil Ryu’s case. E. Ryu’s SFA2 rival interactions and ending are just rehashes of Ryu’s. The Japanese version of SFZ2 features original dialogue for E. Ryu’s rival matches, and a separate ending that’s akin to his SFA3/Z3 ending.
Barring this example, I don’t know of any conceptual differences between the Zero 2/ Alpha 2 scripts for any of the other characters endings.

I had no idea Evil Ryu had unique dialogue in Zero 2. That’s really interesting. Wonder what he said.

I think the sfv story is about m.boson and friends hold a tournament and they also enter the tournament, and the winner of the tournament gets to run the next tournament or something

Something I found pretty interesting I thought I should share with you guys. As we all know, Akuma’s name in Japanese is Gōki (豪鬼 “Great Ogre”) and of course his brother Gouken is… Gōken (剛拳 “Adamant Fist”). What’s interesting is that during E.Ryu’s SFZ2 Japanese ending he refers to Gouki as “ゴウキ” and Gouken as “ゴウケン”, their names now written in katakana instead of the usual kanji forms. By doing this, Gouki’s name meaning could translate into “Fortitude”, and Gouken could translate into “Constitutionality”. In this sense both characters would live up to their namesakes, but without Gouki’s name holding the same connotation as “Great Ogre” does. Gouken upholds strong morals and principles, and Gouki although warped, does posses a strong sense of what he considers “fortitude” when dealing with SnH.

[details=Spoiler]Mid-boss: Sakura

Sakura:
pant pant…I finally found you…huh? You’re…
Ryu:

Sakura:
You’re not the same person as before…what happened?!
Ryu:
You are in my way…I will show no mercy!

Boss: Gouki (Akuma)

Gouki:
!!..hmm, you have good eyes…for a boy…
Ryu:
…Gouki…my master’s…Master Gouken’s enemy…!
Gouki:
Huh, you’re nothing but a beginner. You think that pathetic little satsui
(*1) of yours is any match for me?!

[after the battle]

Ryu, having defeated Gouki, his fists stained red.
No one knows where he has gone.
Was that the true "Satsui no Hadou" (*2) that gave Ryu his power?
Will Ryu follow in Gouki's footsteps and live his life as "The Ultimate

Warrior?" (*3)
The answer will become clear when he appears before us again.
Where will his cursed fists take him…?

[Notes]
*1: Satsui is the intent to kill
*2: The energy of death
*3: Gouki refers to himself in his win quotes and such as “Ken wo kiwameshi
mono,” the Ultimate Warrior.

What does Dan think?

Hah.

You know what would be a sick redesign. Drop the eye patch. Give Sagat an actual eye color and have the other eye just white. New digs as well. New attitude. Still a badass but in a more noble/Ryu esque way.

Or gasps HAIR. Long hair even.

Didn’t his get torn out by Dan’s dad? Dropping the eye patch isn’t something he can do.

How is anything from Street Fighter Zero/Alpha 3 canon at all?

Charlie is alive/fine. He shoots Vega with his jets machine gun or drops bombs on him. Every other ending is a ridiculous remix of that, super lazy/CPS2 is out of memory.

Sagat and Go Hibiki fought fair and square. Go died and Sagat lost his eye, these things can happen in a fight. Sagat didn’t “murder” Go as far as I know. You should also consider that Dan did in fact beat Sagat in Alpha 1/2, but Sagat actually sandbagged the match out of pity for Dan so he can move on (this is the explanation given by the SF:WWE). So Sagat really is a gray character. When he was younger he was more arrogant, proud, and angry but through his journey he became a calmer and more well rounded character. He’s still not a ‘good guy’ in the true meaning of the word. I would say he would be classified as lawful neutral as of SF4, when before he was likely lawful evil or chaotic neutral.

For the record, Sagat’s doubts about Shadaloo began after he beat Ryu in SFA2 (Ryu also sandbagged to help Sagat let go of his anger). He did not leave Bison’s side for several years after that even though he had his doubts (also was probably afraid of Bison). At the end of Alpha 3, when Sagat saw what Bison really wanted of Ryu, his ambitions, and how far he is willing to go - That’s when Sagat decided that he is done. Since Bison ‘died’ and Shadaloo was ‘destroyed’, Sagat didn’t really have to “leave” either of them so to speak.

Months later however, Sagat received an invitation once again to join Bison’s side and he rejected it as seen in the Viper Aftermath and his SF4 prologue. Bison didn’t really go after him, most likely because Sagat was actually loyal to Bison until the very end (the first very end that is). Even when Bison was going all psycho on everyone’s ass at the end of Alpha 3, and even though Sagat did not agree with what Bison was doing, he did not actually betray Bison and stop him from awakening Ryu (we can presume safely I think that Sagat did not actually fight Bison at the end of Alpha 3 but probably was there to see who did).

Sagat’s story arc is pretty much complete. The only thing left for him is to train and await Ryu to become ‘ready’ so that they may have their rematch in the future. It will be glorious, since by then both men would’ve overcome their demons and matured into true warriors.

You pretty much nailed the general idea, but I will add a few notes:

  1. The data Cammy and Chun-Li collected is not necessarily the same. We know from Vega (implied strongly) that the data he got was the Human Incubator program, which ensures the cultivation of Bison’s spare bodies in the future/immortality. The data viewed by Cammy as we see in her SF4 ending seemed to be about how the mind control of Shadaloo works. Remember, Cammy went in there trying to figure out how to save and find the dolls. So she was searching for something different than Chun-Li. Chun-Li wanted to find a way to permanently bring down Shadaloo, she also hoped to maybe discover what really happened to her dad. Cammy deleted that data because she didn’t want what happened to her to happen to anyone.

Chun-Li managed to get a copy of the Human Incubator program, and it is implied in Vega’s ending that he allowed her to, or at the very least he is indifferent to it happening which is strange considering he is a Shadaloo King.

  1. You must consider that there were many “Seths” that were around the base (27 to be exact). At first I thought the Ryu Seth was the real one, but that one dissipated into ashes. The only logical ‘true’ Seth is the one Bison and Juri prey on, since both of them would easily recognize the real one by association. Bison can probably psychically know beyond a shadow of a doubt who and where is the real Seth anyway. It really makes sense for Ryu to be fighting the real Seth because he is an object of Seth’s interest, that line Seth delivers in the end aimed at Bison and “his plan” not working also implies that this is the real Seth. But that shot of him turning into ashes just fucks everything.

  2. Yeah, I would presume -if his set of endings are canon- that Rolento’s forces would’ve basically been the last to arrive and leave. After all the shit already hit the fan and everyone left.

  3. Zangief was probably the person who publicly won the tournament. However, the unofficial story is all the shit that went on in the base that we’re talking about.

Other stuff:

Rose’s ending happens after Bison confronts Seth/Juri. On his way out, he senses her and might’ve made a u-turn to go after Rose, wipes her memories, and kidnaps her.

Guy meets up with Cody outside, and after he parts ways with him he comes face to face with Bison. Bison leaves and then Guy remains with Rose as he tries to make her conscious. He probably succeeds because much later we see Rose guiding Hawk to Juli, although she is doing so via astral projection so her physical body may still be in a coma of some sort.

Balrog was also one of the last people to leave the SIN base, since he couldn’t scavenge the way he did if stuff was still going on. Balrog likely arrived with Vega since they are using the Shadaloo chopper to travel as seen in TTTB. However, Vega left alone and Balrog left walking with Bandaged Boy.

Gouken/Akuma/Ryu’s confrontations happened some time after the entire SIN incident. It could be as a little as hours after Ryu left the base to days. Both Gouken and Akuma converged onto Ryu as we understand from their SF4 prologues (because they sense the SNH awakening), so it is likely Gouken confronted Ryu just outside the SIN base before Akuma arrives minutes later.

Bison/Cammy/Decapre probably happened either at the very beginning of the SIN chain of events or towards the end (as in AFTER Bison leaves on his jet). I say this because of Bison’s choice of travel (wormhole). Bison probably arrived via wormhole to the SIN base and his jet was waiting outside for him after his business was done. Alternatively, he could’ve left on his jet then remembered Decapre and teleported back to get her quickly. I like the first explanation more.

SIN’s base must be fucking huge for all these people to be snooping around in and out all day/night and most not encountering one another.

Whoa. His storyline really is different. Thank you for posting that. This is awesome.

Where are you getting this stuff?

Stop spamming in this thread.

edit-

Nice try with your edit. I understand that you’re salty over getting your thread closed, but disagreeing with all my posts, spamming my profile wall, and this thread won’t change anything. Continue to do so and I will report you.

I’m sorry I just disagree with your post, it sounds mostly made up/speculation probably based on comics or something.

Well at least you finally realized that Sagat wasn’t in Shadowloo anymore like I told you and you got super upset about in the last thread.

Daemos I didn’t spam your profile wall I sent you one message that was pretty funny. Please calm down and drop it.

I think most of that was taken from the endings and prologues of the characters of SFIV.

**All of it **was taken from the SF4 animations. I can cite the source of everything I just said. The only speculation that I am doing is trying to piece things together and figure out the chronological order of events.

Just ignore him he’s trying to bait, and ruin this thread like he ruined the other one.

There’s an EDIT button for a reason. Stop posting multiple times after your own post.

Oh, I know. the animations (when put together in the right way), makes for a decent ending for the game. But some just feels so out of place, know what I mean? Like elena’s ending, taking a selfie with the raging demon himself Akuma?
