There was a fan thought of Ryu’s hair being red by associating it with SNH in SF1 game. I hope Capcom would just come out with story to make that thing logical.
Imagine SF2 AM being the Art Direction of a anime fighter in an engine and animation of Xrd or DBFZ but playstyle like SF4 or SFV. Everyone would surely blown away.
Blond Vega work fine as design but still the best imho is ingame SF4 one
Brown/reddish hair color will have been very unique instead being just another blonde (specially in SFV), plus i think that shade of red it really fit and give some elegant and bloody vibe, i don’t ever praise SF4 art direction but they really nailed the look there
I wish if they do a nostalgia costume for him, they stick with this as #1 color, then they can go blond for other #
I think standard SFV #2 kinda tried it, but sucked
Agreed. When I was a kid and thought a MvC anime would be around the corner, I pictured it in this style (the X-men TAS anime opener really helped that fantasy along). It’s just a really solid, powerful art style from the heyday of anime - not too slick, overproduced, and flashy, not boring or sterile. Just right.
Ryu might have a super saiyan stuff where his hair changes color depending on his power level.
Or he could have just taken a shower; he’s a hermit, not necessarily the cleanest guy, maybe his hair wasn’t that dark but only dirty at some moment.
Not necessarily, maybe after SF2 he looked himself into the mirror and thought “damn, my hair looks so much darker than before, I should start dying it”. And thus, he’s “blonde” again in SFV.
Wouldn’t it make more sense for him to keep his natural color since he believes he’s perfect?
They could have used any color they wanted because of the richer palettes available in SF3. Note how, unlike previous sprites, the SF3 one does not have to share the hair shades with any other element of the sprite (skin or gloves), so they had total freedom.
That said, yeah, they were going for black and gave it the blue highlights to make it stand out more than if it had gray or brown highlights.
