I really hope there is an arcade mode, just for tradition, a shortened “canon” version of story mode, for the little kids, for boredom, for FM? and to utilize the Thailand stage as the final stage.
Bonuses would be:
SFII alt. Mode.
Sheng Long
Shin Bison
Shin Akuma
Gill
I have an ASF story question that relates to character. You guys remember the scene where R. Mika and Ibuki is in the shadaloo base and then they got separated from Karin and Shibasaki? After bickering (again), Ibuki sees a Shadaloo guard and throws a kunai right into the face of the guard, presumably killing him. What interests me is that Ibuki shows little remorse for the guy right after. Granted, they were in a dangerous setting and who knows what he would’ve done to R. Mika if Ibuki didn’t intervene. But it bothers (and fascinates) me that Ibuki, who we can assume is still just a high school girl, was able to kill a guy and not show any feelings about it. Talk about being cold blooded.
I understand that they couldn’t squeeze in that deep of charracter development in such a short amount of time (or perhaps even in her character story?) But it intrigues me that she is able to do so with little emotion. Did her ninja training include an exercise where she has to throw away emotions to achieve becoming a ninja? Did her clan condition her to be able to kill anyone with no remorse?
It’s interesting because we watch it over again and sorta laugh because of how ridiculous the scenario is, but once you look and see how dark and seemingly cold it actually is, it makes you look at our favorite high school ninja differently.
That’s an interesting find. I never really gave this scene much attention, but it does make you wonder. Most heroes have no killing code unless it’s absolutely required, though Ibuki is still just a young student that’s learning the ropes of her Ninjutsu. Perhaps Ibuki’s clan has no qualms to killing those who appear to be irredeemable. A Shadaloo goon would seem to be that type.
Also, it’s strongly implied a kunai user assassinated Seth in Fei-Long’s SF4 ending. Possibly Ibuki:
Idk, while he have a goofy sense of SF that differ from what i will like to see, at least dude seem to care a lot about SF as brand
While there is A LOT i will like to change art direction wise, i respect a lot that… Capcom have/had waaaaay worse peoples
Also first 3 waves of SF4 alt costumes felt “official” and in line with SF/Capcom design*, then Summer Shit happened and it was like if they commissioned everything to an external team or gone on drugs and lost sense of design**
Just watch it, Standard+first 3 alts are all “Capcom”
SF4 alts were all pretty solid (as “in style”) until 4th DLC wave
Imho it’s more lazy crap marketing taking the lead at some point and them just adding stuff to sell… shit is just that for SF4 took years, in SFV out of style stuff started from beginning
Still, i’m getting Mizoguchi-Ryu, so there is hope lol
*some/many goofy, but at least SF-goofy
**few were good, but overall was a massacre
I’m talking about something expanded on in the actual game, though. SF2 is largely unknown and I wouldn’t mind seeing it elaborated on in V in a flashback of some sort. I know it won’t happen, but still.
You’re just giving it waaaaaaaay more weight than Capcom did lol
Cutscene or not Ibuki is’nt a “killer” as char
If forced to reply Capcom will probably invent some silly excuse to explain how she did’nt actually killed him, actually they will probably invent an excuse to explain how all of shadaloo-minions knocked down by hero team are still alive, because that’s the new style of SF
Now, SF2 Cammy will have killed fools left and right, but that’s another story
@“Doctrine Dark”
If i have to bet on a SF4 char cold enough to kill somebody with a kunai i will bet Guy 10 times before think Ibuki (and then still bet Guy)
Dude is a better ninja, know how use kunais (event treat Bison’s plane with them in an ending LOL) and can be ruthless if needed, see FF days
Still likely that was’nt even him, and just a scene with a generic “invisible killer” that searched some kind of plot twist shit for that ending
Adding Sheng Long to Shoryuken as an KO animation and Gorbachev as an KO animation on the other side, would make the SF2 Akuma misconception go away haha.
Oh I don’t doubt Ono has a lot of passion. I don’t dislike the guy. He has crazy energy, great love for the series and genuine love for the fans.
Unfortunately, I can go to Deviantart right now and find you 100 people with the same feelings & energy towards the Sonic the Hedgehog license. And their aesthetic sense is also total shit.
Passion =/= talent.
Ono has no real talent or vision as it applies to those aesthetic parts of SF that made it initially striking, classic & ultimately successful.
Nice guy, don’t get me wrong…but he has no unifying vision. Compare his vision of SF in 4 and 5 to the leadership, talent and cohesive vision provided by someone like Boon with MK9 and X.
It is like comparing Dan vs M. Bison in fighting capability. Yes, both have a passion for combat and hopes to organize that passion into larger things. One produces Saikyo…the other runs goddamn Shadaloo. One gives us goofy-ass SF that is barely hanging on, the other gives us an MK renaissance successfully spinning into a whole other franchise with Injustice. The vast gulf between skill as a producer is overwhelming.
If passion were talent Deviantart would be Disney.
Unfortunately it ain’t and Ono’s lack of talent in quite a few things hurts the SF brand.
I don’t disagre (as much i find MK crap no matter what lol)
I think you’re misunderstanding what i was saying, i don’t deny Ono’s lack of qualities to be the king of SF
I’m saying that him on the throne is saving SF from all the much much worse peoples in Capcom today
SF had better days for sure, and you know how loud and annoying critical i can be
I can go with an endless list of things i will change, stuff i will add and peoples will straight cut if i had any influence over SFV
But i’ve to admit SF still feel SF because Ono is protecting it
Watch any other Capcom series and tell me how many are still around, and of these few survivors how many have not be completely betrayed to please modern and invasive marketing crap (not that SFV is immune to it)
I don’t recognize RE anymore
DMC was given to a dbag who openly disprected DMC and his fans, tried his shit and failed. Last true DMC was 4 like 1000 years ago
Megaman is dead
Darkstalkers are not dead (but actually are dead)
Rival School is dead and if they resurrect they will make you wish they stay dead
MvC old Capcom art got completely replaced with a soul-less wannabe western look (that’s fair tbh considering that have comic heroes into it)
Clover studio was awesomeness and left like 3000 years ago
Inafune screamed that Capcom should do cowboy shit, then run out Capcom and attempt a scam indie attempting old school japcapcom style
We can watch the bad side of SFV for sure, is there straight spitting in our faces, we can dream how much better SFV could have been
But tbh i watch that marketing pushed shitty MKlooking “realistic” SF screen and i think that i have to thanks Ono even for Ken’s banana-hair lol*
He’s not the best Commander and sure as fuck he have not the eye or the heart to point at something and go “hey you, this thing is crap. Not in my SF, motherfucker.”
But still he’s the only that i trust to want preserve SF as SF
He may not be great at it, but i find it infinitely better than the alternatives Capcom seem to offer
*can’t forgive him for Alex middle age tranny 3Dmodel though
Yeah but that’s a weak argument. It embraces mediocrity out of fear of a worse alternative.
SF feels like SF because it has incredibly strong design & cultural relevance. It has its own tropes and elements that will always make it “feel” like SF unless there’s a RADICAL departure.
Truth be told, with everything SF-ish, Ono played it very safe. Very safe. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, but MK has developed its series far more and done so while growing its player base. SF seems to be doing the opposite and hurting itself.
Capcom is functionally retarded as a company. I think we all realize this.
If my choices are eating trash or shit I might just say “I’ll skip this meal, thanks”.
That’s not to say SF4/5 are trash (they’re just mediocre) but I just don’t embrace the whole “It could be worse” mentality.
I’ve cut these two lines to make it more clear my simple point
I don’t “fear” or "it could be"
I’m honestly sure (as “sure” one can be) that all others alternative that 2017 Capcom can offer are worse
Ono seem the only there that still give two shits about protect SF (or any) brand identity
It’s not accept mediocrity, it’s accept what facts seem to hint as the best option avaible (wich in 2017 Capcom case may be mediocre)
From there sure, i agree and i can join you and do that literally endless list of ugly SFV things… i’m the same guy that posted dozens of photoshoop “fix” lol
But as today i don’t see options (aside “don’t buy it”)
I don’t think it was along Ono but it the mater how they handle or approve the Art Direction of stuff.
The problem is they risk a lot iconic references for to much modernizing stuff and to appeal with a certain group of masses that would be seasonal fans, should protect their brands and trademark of their character from visuals, special moves and personality. If they try to appeal for a while it may destroy and alienate the whole franchise later.
SF is known for a pop culture references and themes without it would be just another fighter in 90s.
They could always make a future street fighter a game that is street fighter vs trendy fighters of today in every game.
They did a good thing update certain special moves like Ken, Bison, Nash and Dhalsim, the problem is how the character personality some are trying to be goofy and silly, chunli weird strenght, akuma acting inconsistent and had drama, ryu trying to be a superhero, and etc. While some visual only deserve for a cartoon tv show like SFV Nash.
Guile looks like a Mall Cop, I wonder why they didn’t just used his better Sf4 Alts
SF could be everything that they were in alpha in terms of personality and characterization that is more mature than SF4 and SF5.
Even the facial expression of the characters are like memes.
They could update old Sf2 characters aesthetics to be more based into their timeline inspired existence of culture and personality but not making the appealing to those that only curious and those that want the Sf2 fighters look trendy.
