Rolento is brutal, i run hugo as the 2nd character always because of characters like rolento with safe and easy pressure, you basically need meter to deal with them. Just save meter for alpha counters and these types of match ups seem much more fair.
Have u been using running grab more than spd ? I guess its hard ti determine what is more optimized till we see startup data.

running grab is obviously a lot slower than SPD. But cancleing it from a far c.lk/c.jab is a viable tactic. Its fast compared to sf4.
Also, after splash, c.mp (crossup or not) you are in perfect spd or ex wall throw range. Once they catch on you can do c.lk st.mp (hitconfirm) launcher.
Something I don’t get with Hugo is why using SPD instead of wall throw ?
Wall throw seems to do same or better damage meterless, and if I’m willing to spend meter it’s a lot more than SPD, so what am I missing here ?
Is it just better Oki with SPD ?
I played my first games and was having success AAiring with ex running lariat, so I was asking myself why should I use ex back breaker if can use this move wich seems do to even more damage (haven’t checked) and is more verstaile (if you have 2 meters tag cancel to deal more damage).
I can think of 2 examples where ex BB would be better:
-catching back jumps
-AAing double hit jump ins
Other than that, I can’t real see.Am I missing something ?
Moonsault is faster than wall throw and has more range. EX moonsault is also invincible, so it has utility in that regard and makes people respect you up close.
If you do ex lariat high enough up to not get stuffed by a followup jab on the ground it won’t get you full hits.
Ex lariat can get blown up by empty jumps, air target combos, multi hit jumpins.
ex lariat ends in standing, not a launch.
So many people get caught with running grab after ex lariat. Try it
just do cMP xx MK running grab in your strings. works a bit better than lariat.
I can’t find a hugo combo for 2 meters that does over 630 damage. i’m doing a pretty basic bnb (body splash, cMP xx light palm, cMP xx Light Lariat, sLK xx Light Palm into Gigas) and i’ve been experimenting with some tag team stuff but i really can’t get over 630, can anybody see if it’s possible? I’m up to like.650 with no meter no tags? Hugo scales a lot I’m not in front of my game but there was two things I omitted that still link together…
With 1 meter, however you can get 630+easy… I don’t think using 2 bars or even three with Hugo is needed unless you are just trying to kill someone.
If your timing is good, I’m pretty sure you can do

Yeah i also do that as well.
I know one, but its impractical. Involves jumping splash straight into ex lariat. Remember that long tag combos build more meter/activates gems, so in the end it can pay off.
Btw i got a happy birthday with 3 damage gems active. So much damage…
I figured it out in training last night I’m yet to really apply it, it’s viable… Well all of Hugo’s stuff is fairly viable. When I get home I’ll maybe record it or something

Here’s a list on BnBs I’ve been using primarily is this
Strong-clap-strong-running man-stand short-air grab
This gives you a hard knockdown for positioning… Honestly, in my opinion, this is the go to bnb it’s something along the lines of 487 (correct me if I’m wrong) and sets you up for wake up palm nonsense,
You can change the ended of short-air grab into other things depending on the situation.
I don’t Ike using meter with Hugo unless I’m going to kill them free. I like to save my meter for ex air grab because it grabs everything pretty much. Can also auto correct too…
There’s a bunch of shit that I’m doing right now I can’t even type it all out… What would be cool if we started a data base to collect info…
In all of my playing right now, Hugo seems to be really really good. He reminds me of Potemkin

That’s interesting actually… I wonder how you can maximize Hugo’s damage output with other characters… Like say… I wonder how a team of zangeif Hugo could deal damage,

lvl 2 charge and counterhit down down mk cause a stagger that can be combo’d after. Surely this is another great move for mixups since it’s hop overhead.

i think everyone is sleeping on ultra throw. you can do tick throws with it off j.MP/MK and easy 300+ damage combos anywhere on screen. I posted some ultra throw bnbs last page, but i’ve done some more testing and come up with this one too:
(midscreen) hcb+k, dd+mk, s.lk xx qcb+lp dp+mk 328 dmg - strict timing but very doable
i dont have the game on hand, but can someone test if ultra throw, pandora, super works? and how much you get with 30% pandora gem?
if this does as much damage as i think it does il probably switch to it
