The how to mod your SFIV SE Fightstick FAQ

I can’t find the nuts, and online the only decently priced ones with shipping to Canada are 6mm length.

Do you think 6-32 size would work?

Thanks go out to Sileighty and all the other posters of useful information in this thread.

I just finished swapping out all my buttons for Sanwa OBSF-30s and the stick for a Seimitsu LS-32-01. It was a snap getting the LS-32-01 to fit. Very easy mod. I didn’t even have much trouble with the red glue. I also had no stripped screws and the QDs were actually not that difficult to get off. I pulled them all off with some needle nose pliers (pulling from the top of the connector).

The only real trouble I ran into was that I broke one of the SE buttons while trying to get it out (no big deal), the retainer clip on the SE joystick was difficult to remove, and the e-clip on the LS-32-01 is REALLY FUCKING DIFFICULT to work with. See, I found that the LS-32 was actually pretty loose. Too loose for my tastes. So I wanted to mod the spring and make it stiffer. I decided that I would use the SE stick’s spring, and add it to the LS-32 (ala the JLF ultimate mod). Well, the SE stick’s retainer took a lot of plier-and-screwdriver work to ge off. I ended up using some wires to pull the e-clip off the LS-32. This was pretty difficult. Then I found that the SE spring didn’t really fit with the LS-32 spring. I had to increase the inner diameter of the SE spring, as well as put both sprigs together so that everything would go back on to the LS-32. Once i finished with the spring, I noticed I had a lot less room for “play” when putting the actuator back on. It would just barely clear the retainer ridge. At first I tried using the wire method, while a second person held the actuator down. This didn’t even come close to working. I was actually at the point where I thought I would have to go buy a tool to put the clip back on. Unfortunately, this was at about 1am Friday night, so i would have to wait. I hate waiting. So I ended up mauling the clip with a couple of pliers to stretch it out. I will say this: The build quality on this clip is pretty good. It took a LOT of force to get it pried open enough to go back on the stick. And at this point I was working solo again. But I finally got everything back on and got the clip crimped back onto the retaining ridge.

My LS-32-01 is now very stiff, and I love it. I had bought a round gate for the LS-32, but while trying it out, I realized just how bad they are for diagonals. Anyone who doesn’t like square gates, be very wary of the Japanese round gates. Japanese stick + round gate =! Happ competition stick. However, after the spring mod, the square gate is actually much easier to use. I guess the extreme stiffness prevents me from really riding the gate.

Wish I had a pic of the new stick. It looks a lot better now, IMO. I have 6 orange OBSFs and 2 yellow OBSFs and a black bat top. The colors match well with the default SE art. Now I just need to find some custom artwork to fit the new buttons and stick.

Thanks again for everyone’s inout in this thread. :lovin:

EDIT: Just saw this post:

Burnin8tor has an awesome pic based tutorial for the LS-32-01 at http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?p=6495548

I’m ordering my parts right now, and have decided to put hole plugs on my L1 and L2 buttons seeing as how they only seem to get in the way.

Is there anything special I should do with the wires connecting those buttons? or can I just leave them?

I’d make sure the QDs are covered well. The rubber sheaths with a bit of electrical tap covering the bottoms should do the trick.

You don’t want the exposed metal causing a short anywhere.

uh question you know on the madcatz se the normal stick there is this little tap (see picture)

on my new sanwa stick theres isnt so it doesnt snap in place … i figures it would be ok unfortuantly after some playing it always gets loose and backwards doesnt work anymore… so my question is > what kind of glue did they use to glue it together? I dont want to damage any part in any way AND i want some kind of glue that i can peel back off when i want to swap the stick again for some reason. +
anything?

I’m pretty sure a solution has already been given, IN THIS VERY THREAD.

Just use hot glue. It won’t fuck anything up, and it’s totally removable later on.

Fucking 07ers…

super glue or even electrical tape would be fine. just need something to hold it in place.

Sometimes the Roundhouse button my stick just stops working and I would have to unplug and replug the stick so it can work again, anyone know what the deal is?

same problem with my first se didnt work with the buttons, unplug play, 3 weeks later its totally fd, its the pcb,

my 2nd se all updated screws and so, works like a charm

(both were sanwa modded btw)

the hk on the 2nd se gave out but i unplug and play, ever since no problems( only happened once during 4 weeks of playing)

i say buy a 2nd se while u can

Thanks go to evilgordo and MIVLives for the CP art.

/\ nice work

Hey guys, a little new here to the forums but I’ve been browsing a while.

I’m about to order the SFIV SE Fightstick online but before I do, I just wanted to know if there are any issues besides the cheaply made buttons. I heard about the washer issue but apparently it was fixed?

So I just wanted to know what the current issues are with the SE before I order.

Thanks,
Jerzey

wingsabr: Thanks

I glad I saw this…this is exactly what I been waiting for and thanks for the info…

does anyone know if the rollie stick will work as a replacement for the SE

I have replaced my buttons with OBSF-30s and four of the buttons doesn’t register that well if I press the outer edges to slow. If i “flick” the edges it works but sometimes when I’m playing I just slide over to the button and then it doesn’t register. Is there anything I can do about this or do I need to get new buttons?

I have a chance to get a used PS3 SE Fightstick for a great price. Problem is that I have a Xbox360. Would I be able to swap out the board and replace with an xbox 360 one? Should I just make it a dual system fightstick (i heard this is more difficult going from PS3 -> dual)? Also which would be the least expensive option. Any help would be appreciated. Love the site.

Two Pics of my simple mod (I haven’t found a shop to print art at a decent price for now)

I have a madcatz fightstick SE with all sanwa parts.
I did A mod to my sanwa JLF stick. I had it with the sanwa octogate, but i didn’t really liked it. The hole of the octo was to big for my tast. Then i bought a seimitsu LS-56 with octogate, and liked it a bit more. But i wanted to combine the 2. So i screwed the LS-56 octogate onto the JLF. The only thing i used are some other screws (longer and thicker then the LS-56 screws). They have to be a little bit bigger then the holes in switches and the part under that. The LS-56 octogate fits perfectly.

Kudos to OP for instructions.
