The Houyoko sen April Ottawa Thread

I second that!Seriously Ryad.Im starting to doubt u…

kim HOW do I dl these?

Went to the cave today. A coulpe of interesting thinks. First, I talked to Garth, the Quarters Guy. He said that they FIXED the 1P side of CvS2. So I said, “Oh, they installed a new joystick?” He responded, “No, they just installed a new switch.”

So I went over and decided to play Tekken Tag. Good games! There was a chinese guy with a blue jacket who played 3 games of CvS2 on the 1P side while I was playing TTT. He beat the game once, but then lost on his second quarter on the Osaka, Japan final Stage (the first final before the shin akuma or ultamite rugal stage). He then changed to the 2P side, and looked a little pissed. I imagine that he was a pretty decent player, and maybe the 1P side was acting up for him? I sure hope not, but the fact remains that he lost, then switched sides. I left right after he switched after his loss because I beat TTT and was hungry. So, the 1P side might be fixed, but it might not be. I don’t know. They replaced the 1P side switch, but that is all; they didn’t replace the entire joystick, which might have been essential to fix it. :wonder:

I just finished eating some Pepper Beef!!

If anyone is as bored as me, call me.

dexter is dope

this isn’t new

while nico is a better resource for vids period. I believe the ST qual vids have been uploaded to youtube here:

Holy fuck, you could have ended this post after you said that they just put new switches in, even though they probably weren’t new, just different.

Well the rest did indicate that there was a chance that the new switch did not fix the problem…despite the ridiculous extent it took to bring that across.

Dude should’ve asked the ‘chinese guy’ or tried it out to make the post actually worth something. It just left the situation the same as if he didn’t post at all…
normally I’m better at skipping posts on here but the stupid ‘CvS2’ caught my eyes and peaked my interest…ugh…

CvS2… pure evil :badboy:

Yeah, I am the best Tekken Tag player in Ottawa by far:sad::shake:
[/QUOte]

I dunno. I’ve played some pretty good random azn guys at the cave, they were pretty good too. You are probably not the best tag player in Ottawa. I didn’t really test your d all that much, but you couldn’t break my throws and didn’t block my hell sweeps or bryans d/f+3. d/f+3 is like… you need to be able to block that on reaction ok? Slow moves like that, especially ones that make you duck to block, you have to be able to see on reaction. Most people can not block hellsweep on reaction, but it can be done. moves like lings ss+3 fengs ss+4 marduks fc d/f+4 that sort of stuff.

I admit you land your combos consistently, but your ways of getting a launch is really not that scandalous. Your law is MAD unsafe dude, those flip kicks are not the way. Should be seeing more ws2 and punch combinations from law. Junkyard dog won’t land on anyone who plays seriously. I’m pretty sure the last hit is high, so…

But yeah, combos are the core to a solid tekken game, so just figure out more ways to get a launch and work on some reaction D and you’ll do better at T whatever. We don’t have 6 or 5 arcade cabs around here, but if you can do wall combs in 5 or DR, then it’s no problem. Just look up the new characters on youtube and look for the animations on their low moves. Try to figure out the D before hand. Then just do your combos like usual.

wow that was a long post

strong works on 1p side of cvs2

2p side has issues with the corner block; you gotta be precise.

punch does not equal block

i’m way better now than i used to be about pressing buttons when i’m scared.

the best way to know is looking for the counterhit message.

so your guessing is better?

Yo Roble, I know you showed me this a while ago. But its still tooo good.

Madness?

Yeah, I hear what you are saying about the launchers and reaction time for blocking Bryan’s D/F+3 and breaking throws, Napalm Kid. The think about breaking throws is that I played Tekken 4 a LOT, so I tend to just hit RP as soon as I am thrown because in T4 it was the only throw people used (another reason why that game was frowned upon, among others). I find that in order to get the reaction time up, it is nessessary to play Tekken a lot, or to get “warmed up” mentally in Tekken. If I am warmed up, if I see a SS+ something move or slow executing sweep that can combo, I like Law’s D+4,3 combo launcher, because it is not easily sidestepped, is fast, and is hard to block the first hit. Of course, that brings me to Law’s D+2,3.

Because it is a punch for the first hit, it is the PERFECT reaction move in Tekken, because punches are faster than kicks, and no other punch has more speed or priority in Tekken than a low punch. On a lot of occasions where it probably shouldn’t hit for full counterhit damage, it DOES:rofl::looney:.
Tekken 5 D.R. Law Combo:
CH D+2,3, 3~U+4, F,F+2,1,3.

This combo will even hit if their back is turned! In Tekken DR, Law’s B+1,2,1 does not launch anymore due to the rancid amounts of cheese it spews, but in Tekken 5, you can do this combo off of that launcher as well.

For Wall Combos, if Law launches with a move that recovers crouching, like D+4,3, do WS+4, 1, and go from there in the 1,1,1,2… combination of your choice. If Law recovers standing normally from the launcher, he can do even more damage with 4~U+3, 1, and continue. Law’s Basic Standing Punch is amongst the fastest in the game, maybe even the same speed as Bruce’s and Steve’s. As a result, after a launcher that recovers standing normally, he can do basic 1, F,F+1, F,F+1, F,F+1, F,F+1,2, (wall hit) 1,1,1,2,F+2,F+1+2! That combo makes what Steve Fox can do look irrelevant!:woot:

Do you know when these Chinese\Japanese\Koreans drop by the cave? :wonder:

Whenever there is Kimchi

edit: mmmmmm kimchi.

MVC2 is broken at the cave. The 1P side Short Kick is busted: is doesn’t work at all. Zero.

CVS2 1P side seemed to work for Shen (yes, Shen!), so I guess its ok.

While I was typing this, Pittsburgh scored on Ottawa and there was a big cheer in Pittsburgh. Its 2 to 0 for the Pens :amazed::confused:

So what’s the Ottawa gaming scene like? I’ve never heard about anywhere for gaming. Anyway I’m pretty new to the site so I just wanted to say hi, I’m from Ottawa.

=)

Happy gaming. (I only play 3s atm.)
