Finally saw “it follows” pretty good horror movie, though a lot of the rules dont make sense in the move. In fact a lot of the movie is very inconsistent with its story and pacing. Some people have a theory that the whole movie is a dream, but I couldnt find any proof.
The Babadook, is other movie where its full of metaphors, and symbolism. So if you dont understand it, you should watch a youtube vid that explains the movie. Still a lot better then it follows.
Just saw Krampus, fucking excellent. Reminded me of Gremlins but with more awesome. Perfect balance of horror with just the right amount of light heartedness. Probably gonna go catch it again this weekend.
Just watched Knock Knock. Not the greatest, but after the craptastic Green Inferno Eli Roth redeemed himself quite a bit with this one for me.
He seems to have captured that Cabin Fever vibe here. Maybe he tried in Green Inferno but due to the setting of that movie it just fell flat. In this movie however it works really well when you are focused on 2 slutty psychotic bitches. I was entertained throughout, ending is pretty funny but makes no sense a minute after you digest it. Didn’t care though, a fun watch and the blonde Spanish broad had my eyes glued to the TV the entire time.
I’m the total opposite. I thought Knock Knock was terrible. I could see it being appreciated only as a “so bad it’s good” style movie. I thought Green Inferno was okay, the humor was terrible but it had some good gore.
(I kept forgetting to bump this, but now I’ve forgotten why I wanted to bump it.)
Or, rather, I’ve forgotten part of the reason why I wanted to bump it in the first place. I know that I wanted comment briefly on watching a random movie that called Exists that I guess vaguely qualifies as horror even though it’s about Bigfoot, but I can’t remember the main thing I wanted to comment about since I only randomly watched that movie three or four days ago. Hmm…not sure it was. Oh well. Maybe I’ll remember later.
As far as Exists goes, it was decent enough I suppose for a random movie I saw even though none of the characters are really all that likable. Still, they’re not actively loathsome outside being too dumb to figure out why “the monster” is after them even though it’s super fucking obvious from the beginning of the movie.
Spoiler
They run over its child on the way to their doomed cabin. And yet they can’t seem to put two and two together. The lack of a body isn’t an excuse since there’s blood and hair on the front of the truck and they can clearly hear both thing in pain before they drove off and then mother crying in pain later on.
That said, for being a somewhat generic movie as far as premise goes, especially since “found foot footage” is an increasingly common thing and there was another “found footage movie with Bigfoot as ‘the monster’” with a couple that I didn’t finishing watching & can’t remember the name of, it was overall decent in part because it wasn’t nearly as lazy about cliches as it could have been, aforementioned stupidity above aside. This includes making the monster arguably being more sympathetic than people it’s killing without anyone being ridiculously “evil” asshole. Shrug.
Still, as far as random horror movies I’ve seen on TV go, it was nowhere near as good as Frankenstein’s Army, Vanishing on 7th Street, or Lake Mungo. Only thing it might be beat out in that category is Don’t Blink, which was another movie that I wanted to talk about it, if only in how disappointing it was. I wouldn’t recommend watching that, unfortunately, and I say this as someone who usually doesn’t mind “Cosmic Horror” stories. In that movie’s case, it just comes off as lazy when it really didn’t have to.
The creature in the movie isnt the main focus though, the whole idea is a metaphor, just like how she was reading the story of the Babadook to her kid, and you look at it again and its just a normal kids book.
Ya the main focus of the movie is how some people cant deal with loss, and losing their mind.
(I’ll be looking into Bone Tomahawk then. Never even heard of it.)
Ha. Both The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Night of the Comet are randomly on tonight. I’m tempted to watch the later since the former was almost off by time I realized it was on, but I really should try to go bed soon.
That said, the former does make me wonder two things: Do people in here count TRHPS as related to Horror, if only in terms of parody? And what do people think a horror movie requires to actually be a horror movie given what’s “scary” is subjective?
I have the feeling I’ve asked the latter in some fashion in here before, but I’m currently too “busy” (read: lazy and badly multi-tasking) to look back through the thread right now; the fact that Gone Baby Gone was apparently on before Night of the Comet makes me also want to ask the latter question.
