You know what really pisses me off about that? Okay, I mean my Japanese is good enough to identify when people are being stupid with theirs (the way some people use the word “yomi,” like “yomi his uppercut” as a verb, drives me nuts) but it’s bad enough that I can forgive them for the transgression. What I cannot forgive is when people are so desperate to borrow words from Japanese in an effort to look smart when there are English terms for the concepts that work perfectly well, particularly when you’re writing in fucking English. Why can’t you just say “read his uppercuts” or “guess when he’s going to uppercut?” How hard is that? Then you don’t have people who are new to the game wondering if “yomi” is some move they don’t know about that outprioritizes VV or some crazy option select or what the fuck ever.
Seriously. I mean can’t you just say “Slayer can get high damage off of random hits” and not “Slayer has good abare?”

^well, the problem is that the people that say those things usually have no knowledge about japanese language except for warped slangs that they’ve picked up from video games (which they then manage to misinterpret for another 2 or 3 extra steps).
how would people feel if some guy in japan started referring to taking shower in the morning as “diarrhea” or riding the bicycle as “ron burgundy”? that sounds retarded as fuck, but that’s how i feel when what some people talk about abare.
there were actually couple of guys at uiuc that did that… and really annoyed me. they actually annoyed me in general anyway, but i hate fobs so there.

oki is fine, since it’s pretty much become a common knowledge… and i actually think the word “wake-up game” might be directly derived from the term okizeme. ??? literally means “wake-up offense”, “wake-up attack” or “wake-up pressure”.
i just get upset when i hear some people refer to abare because they’re usually wrong about it. i’m guessing somebody posted mistranslation on dustloop or something a while ago it spread like a wildfire.

Like, you’ll hear people say “wakeup uppercut,” meaning reversal uppercut, and then you’ll also hear them say “wakeup overheads” and “wakeup game” when they’re talking about stuff done on the opponent’s wakeup.
Now that I think about it that’s why I started using “okizeme” because it’s actually less confusing… even though it’s rare that people are talking about reversals when they refer to a “wakeup game” it still happens (or happened?) and it used to annoy the shit out of me.
So I guess I’m just cranky and don’t like when people say things I don’t understand.
When will a game that’s not a piece of shit come out ;-; I bet Arcana Heart sucks, I’m already bracing myself for it
