At this point, that’s kind of just PLOT on it’s own. Ippo’s adamantium noggin has made plenty of previous boxers lose their cool when they land big punches and he recovers.
Plot armor is like, the “perfect punch” against Shimabukuro. By now, this whole “I countered him, wait it didn’t work!!!” is just the actual plot of the manga. You could argue that the whole plot is stupid, I suppose. But it’s a shonen manga sooooooo… yeah…
I just wish Ippo didn’t come out of every fight looking worse than his opponent…

I guess the Kojima fight was Morikawa going, “Here. You get ONE non-bullshit Ippo win…”

I get what you are saying. Honestly i am an ippo fan, but really this is pretty dumb. my thing is that after one punch Alf went full retard again. So its like he just gave up even though he talked all this shit about reaching Ricardo. Eh I guess I am just annoyed that ippo gets bodied like every fight but then makes these miraculous comeback. Granted it is a manga, that rarely happens in boxing. Yeah it may be plot now, but the overwhelming amount of plot armor is what got us here.

Really though, Ippo was unstoppable for so long, and now suddenly it’s too much? What happened to Yamato Daisho? He’s always taken too much damage.
But when you start taking one shot KOs generally your chin is completely gone, and then it’s too late to be effective at all. That’s why Ippo needed to save the samurai spirit stuff for just the big fights, similar to how Takamura only struggles against the best of the best and that’s what makes it so epic when he does.
Ippo finally learning to dodge would be a huge improvement. If this is what it takes, then it’s a good thing. The Woli fight is still stupid, but it’s also funny in the Alf fight that he still got crushed in his supposed best range when going for the kill. Alf was convinced Ippo would beat Ricardo if Alf didn’t stop him right there. So really the non-defense is the worst part of Ippo now.
But Ippo needs to have a very long recovery. In manga he needs to be out for at least a year, maybe a year and a half. And in that time we have Miyata, Sendo, Volg, Takamura, Itagaki all have at least a couple of fights. So in real life terms, Ippo should not step back into a ring for roughly 5 years. And when he does step back in, it needs to seem like he’s now a legit #1 in the world type guy. The manga can’t go on forever, the other stories need to start wrapping up so that after a “timeskip” which is basically what that would be, Ippo would be powered up and ready to finish the manga. Even if Ippo is ready to finish I’m sure it would take at least another 3 or so years to wrap up anyway.
