The Guy Q&A Thread: Post your questions here!

I’ve been having a lot of trouble AA’ing close range jumpins. Even when I AA with close heavy kick I trade a lot to the point that I feel like it might be better just to block but I don’t want to be free to jumpins either. I’m losing almost every match spending the whole time blocking because my opponents just block string and jump immediately over and over again.

Is run sliding under close jumps a viable option or do I just need better timing with close heavy kick?

You could St.lk,ex air grab, run/stop/slide, netrual jump lk or work on your timing with heavy kick.If their not divekick characters from a block string you should always have a option.

cl hp works in some jump in situations as well

Not sure if this has been answered already. But here it goes. I’ve seen pro players do this combo, and I can’t do it for the life of me: cl. HK, Far HP, Far MP. Every time I try, I’m pushed too far back for the MP to connect. Advice anyone?

Yeah that combo is character specific.

Works on Blanka, Balrog, Hawk, Gouken, Zangief, Dhalsim, Hugo, Sagat, Guile, DJ, Guy, Seth.

Works on Abel and Cammy too but you will need a jump in attack first or focus crumple I believe.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I also want to mention something very interesting that I have never seen before (not sure if anyone here has…). I saw a player do a combo with 2EX Hozanto in the corner. THIS BLEW MY MIND. This may also be character specific. Possibly, those who fall very floaty. Is this new or can someone list other characters that this works with. The link to the video is below showing that it works with balrog.

It only applies to Cammy, Rog, Deejay, I believe Sim and Juri fall into as well.

Thanks! My next query is… EX Hozanto FADC forward. Plus or minus? (On block of course…).

If you can juggle into a BSK, you can juggle into EX.HZO.

That’s the general rule.

Like the end of BCC can be an EX HZO or a BSK. Even Target Combo->LP.BSK eeewyou can end with EX HZO or BSK. At this point you have HZO into HZO. Since the first HZO can also be EX, you can theoretically combo from Ex to Ex without FADC

Elbow drop. Plus or Minus?

(on block) plus if they duck and minus if they stand.

Elbow drop is entirely based on when and where it hits, and since character height differs alot. Put it into perspective like this, if you hit Guy on to the top of his head with Regular Elbow drop whether standing or crouching you’re +1 at least, but on Hugo its negative. for the standing block.

Same with Bushin flip elbow on Guy standing you’re even.

I would like to mention that elbow drop has a landing frames of about 1f or 1.5f (which is added to the seperate frame advantage for the blocked/hit elbow drop) so even wif your elbow drop hits, its important to cancel those landing frames into a followup. Assuming you followup a hit elbow drop, hitting Ryu at his tallest height leaves you +5f, and +4f on Zangief. I’m unsure about blocked frame advantage.

I wouldnt even use this move on Hugo.

Hmmm. Very interesting. I feel as though this needs to be explored a little more in depth. Is there a list of frame data that shows whether guy is plus or minus elbow dropping vs the whole cast standing or crouching, blocking or on hit?

Afraid not. My work is less busy for a bit so I might try to compile a full list.

I used actual frame data here, Unless the person is taller than the average character, you’ll be positive or even depending if you did Flip elbow or regular elbow. So in this case Guy is relatively safe until you hit characters such as Sagat and co.

Can anyone shed some light on the Guy/Vega matchup? I’m completely oblivious to this matchup

Vega doesnt have a very reliable anti air, occasional jumps can surprise him, though he himself can be quite hard to AA so stay alert. His wakeup is very weak, once hes knocked down, dont be afraid to glue yourself on him. If he loses his claw, make sure he stays that way.

His cr MP is fast and has good range, as well as his focus attack, try not to get tagged by those. Use Guys crHK option selects on Vegas wakeup to chase down backflips, though the good players know not to spam this. Also careful not to elbow drop when he has Ultra 2 ready.

His Air grab and jump back normals say hello.
