I hope they update the gameplay a bit, such as allowing custom variations for tournament modes.

I really loved this game when it came out, but all characters felt too limited to me, which made it impossible for me to find a main.

Yeah variations in MK11 are terrible. It’s one of the reasons I stopped playing it.

The biggest one though is Kombat League. Worst ranking system I’ve ever seen in my life. Ladder resets like every month and everyone from Elder Gods to complete beginners is forced down to the bottom. Bottom ranks are flooded with people who don’t belong there and the upper ranks are empty because even people of that skill level have to take time to get there.

But wait, there’s more!

Also points for wins are adjusted based on you and your opponents rank. It encourages this ridiculous meta of waiting until the last week or so of the KL season to play ranked. You can maximize point gains by beating people higher ranked than you but definitely not better.

Everything about the system is moronic.

I haven’t actually tried it… I couldn’t settle on a main to begin with, lol. I really wanted to main Shao Kahn but having to use up an ability slot for one of those slow-ass buffs, when there were other awesome things available pissed me off.

I understand it could lead to imbalance, but then patch out the stupid busted stuff. I bet most people would settle on similar variations anyway…

Now, perhaps the point? They could foresee that and wanted variety? I’m not sure, but it’s the main reason I stopped playing.

Also, I will say the input system isn’t too satisfying for me. The inputs are piss easy on a Hitbox and when I took a break from MK11 (which is what I got the hitbox for and the first game I played with it) and did DPs in SFV, I was in love. Those motions just feel so good and that also made it hard for me to go back.

Sort of like Diablo 2 Ladders but silly.

I think resetting the ladders is cool but once a month is way too often.

get it away!!

This issue is that they are using variations as a way to balance certain special moves instead of trying to make actually serviceable builds. It’s especially obvious when they have totally unrelated moves overriding each other when a character still has unused motions.

Kitana is the perfect example of how terrible the system is. Lift is only in one of her variations despite being one of her default moves and one of her most iconic? V3 Jade got an objectively terrible projectile reflect that replaces glow while leaving Delia’s Dance, one of her best custom moves, unused in any variation. Like at a certain point it’s obvious that they are just trying to enforce balance via limiting your options instead of trying to giving you fun but different ways to play your character.

That’s a good point. I don’t remember the case clearly but Sub Zero has an EX ice ball in one variation that took up two slots and was super powerful.

They complimented that with what I recall was replacing his slide with a shoulder charge, which was (at launch anyway) a far worse option.

I personally hate resetting ladders because the only thing it does is force me to play more than I want to. Like in SFV I like being able to stop for a few months to improve or even just chill out, then come back and be able to pick up where I left off.

I’m sure it can work, but like you said KL resets way too often. It sucks because before the mode released it was one of the big things I was waiting for.

I wake up and enter the thread and what I see is disturbing

Yeah Sub is another good example. Variation 1 just gives him a bunch of dogshit projectiles and people were using it because it had slide lol. Then V3 comes along and naturally everyone picks it because it has slide and one actually decent new special smh.

The few times I had a good match, I just assumed the other person was having a terrible one.

I’m pretty sure people who thought they were having a good match wondered why I’d just stop touching the controller after losing a round, because I was certain that they didn’t see the teleport-fest that was going on on my side.

Now, the real question is…

With 5.6.20 do they mean 5 June 2020, because they write dates like normal human beings, or do they mean 6 May 2020 (colloquially known as “tomorrow”), because they write dates by scrambling days and months all over the place like Americans do?

They are filthy Americans, so of course they wrote the date in that completely wrong manner.
They mean tomorrow despite writing the date all wrong.
