I go to bed, nothing of interest.
I come back from work “Politics and Twitter Bullshit. also TLOU2 bullshit.”
At least Bea is in that game, glad she becomes more famous.
We had to have filler while you were sleeping so we could discuss BBTag now.
I see, well start the BBTag talk, I’m going to watch anime with my girl in an hour.
Well since we’re on a fighting game forum - Kung Jin in MKX.
Him being gay (and also a first for the franchise) was not paraded around, nor was it stated in the game directly - it was a rather clever line, in a flashback scene no less, and it wasn’t until after the game’s launch that one of the developers tweeted out, complimenting the observant fans who figured out Jin’s implied sexuality. And that’s it - that’s literally the only scene where it’s even implied, and all of his character interactions aren’t writted around the fact
Johnny Cage is married.
Jax has kids.
If Kung Jin had a boyfriend it would be an issue though?
Just having a boyfriend in general? No, why would it?
Wait, Anita Sarkeesian is the vicepresident of Naughty Dog? When did this happen?
Nah, she isn’t, Druckmann’s just hella simping for Anita
What a fucking chad.
He’s an amateur, I’m making my wife watch “The O.C.”
“it’s very secure feeling” jiggles tits
C’mon guy. I’ve watched 3S for a long time, I’ve worked on execution stuff for longer, I’m a lot more comfortable moving around and in general I’m working on a better conceptual framework for how to approach the game.
Similarly I spent time thinking about all the stuff that went wrong last time and making sure it didn’t repeat itself. What basically happened was that I played KingTubbs and you, went to training mode to fix some shit and then had an idea of what I needed to do in order to free you up.
I’m a pretty distracted player at home though. if I could rearrange my office, I’d buy 3rd monitor and just have FG set up across from my PC as opposed to next to it. When I played Tubbs and you the time before, I was looking up the color schemes of characters. But being distracted as all F kinda lead to a bunch of silly jump ins and other things which costs me games.
Lately I also play to analyze tendencies as opposed to other things. I want them Ws but more importantly I want to make sure I’m actively adapting to things. Missed some parries here and there, some DP baits didn’t work out properly etc. Not really sure what was different with playing Yang vs playing Yun/Akuma/Ryu but for w/e reason Yang was the worst out of all the 4 characters.
GGs and a double post incoming.
It was more of a joke, but I was shocked when I finally had the chance to look at SRK, and see all the posts you had lol.
But, trust me, I get it. I don’t know how many more years you have on me in playing FGs smartly, as well as 3S in general, but I know it’s a lot, and I know you’re a good player so I’m not expecting to stomp you anytime soon… But I’m going to work on making it harder for you.
Edit to add: I took note of a bunch of things I need to lab from last night.
Also, I need to find a way to somewhat neutralize some of the adrenaline I feel or something. I can think of something’s between rounds, and did it a few times last night to make small adjustments, but my literal first thought when I woke up this morning was “why am I pressing buttons when Yun’s SA3 is active?” Lol, it’s like I forgot what it does last night. I don’t really know what to do against it, especially when I’m cornered, but trying to hit you with cr.MPs ain’t it.
Speaking of colours, I wish the “Start + ____” colours were available on this version.
I would say that in general no, BUT, that will depend of the context.
In any narrative, every new detail you add about a character is an oportunity to know more about him, and give us a window to its personality, motivations, fears, etc.
Going with the chars you mentioned, Jax and Cage each of those details you pointed have a weight on the narrative.
Jax married and lost his wife offscreen, he had a daughter with her.
That lost molded, changed him, since his wife was the one who helped him cope with the trauma of being killed and then resurrected as a puppet, it was his rock.
That lose also dictates the dynamic he has with his daughter who followed on his steps, despite him not wanting her to follow that path, and also dictates his relationship with his former comrades.
By the time of MK11, he has become kind of an alcoholic because all his experiences and his lost.
So is a big deal about him.
Cage marriage, divorce and marrying again also have an effect on 3 mayor players of the story of the last 2 games.
It dictates the dynamics of all the Cage family, their close friends and comrades, etc.
So, going by that.
What letting them us know that he has a boyfriend adds to his character, and the narrative?
Keep in mind that by itself, letting us know but being just a throw away tibid about him wouldnt be a problem, but if said moment is paraded on any media as a way to point out how progressive NRS are because they added a gay char, then at that moment is clear that they are pandering imo.
One of the interesting things about Kung Jin, is that his homosexuality is key to his character, because when they reveal that to us, it gives context to many traits of his personality, his actions and the way he conducts himself.
Why he acts with a lot of bravado, like trying to upstage his collegues, all while showing insecurities about himself.
He feels inadequate to Kung name, since he feels that he cant live up to his ancestors, his cousin.
That revelation was organic, and came at a moment that gave us the oportunity to actually empathize with him after having to deal with some of his negative traits.
It humanized him.
This is why i dislike when they add any kind of token for pandering and brownie points.
Because “representation” means nothing if is shallow.
Like when there was a lot of fuss about the MCU having finally an openly gay char on End Game.
And it turned to be a just a throw away line about a guy finally started dating, with another guy he met.
Something that didnt amount to more than 10 seconds on screen.
But they paraded it as something new.
A line that BTW, was changed in many countries since they censor that stuff on places that have problems and even laws against homosexuality.
The same happened with OW, they make chars like Tracer and Soldier gays in side material, parade and make a fuss about it, but then that is censored/changed on china, iran, etc.
Because it is just a marketing ploy.
Alright I’m not necessarily doing stuff so you learn. I’m also doing stuff because I want to learn. As far as Yun goes, you got hit with a very basic version of his gameplan. The difference is that since I understand my goals and my normals a bit better, I can be a lot more confident on the screen. Those times where things were looking even or like it was down to the wire, I could take a second or two to take a step back and be like “well, if I can get this done, I can win the round”.
The big, massive problem you have in this game, and which a lot of SRKers I’ve played have, is this weird tendency to corner yourself. I can literally make a list of people from this lounge who spend their days either hitting downback or just walking themselves into a corner. Yun wants you there and you’re giving that up for free.
The other thing is that I know you’re hungry for parries early on, so I started shifting the offense. Obvious frame trap, delayed buttons etc. You aren’t hitting buttons? walk up throw. Not mashing on wake up? Walk up throw again? another frame trap, vary buttons etc. My goal was to take mashing away and hail mary parries away from you.
The other problem that was getting you eaten alive in the corner was your need to hit sweep. Divekicks are overhead in 3S because lol 3S reasons. But you also were getting rocked for holding down back and then rocked for hitting sweep when you should’ve known I was going to divekick. At one point I did the same blockstring 3 times in a row with different outcomes and you just kept holding downback.
You can parry bad divekicks pretty reliably (Tommy2Step does it, dude is a great player but shows it can be done). If you were stand blocking in those scenarios, it’d become an option. But right now the panic downbacking was removing defensive option and getting you lit up.
You may not be comfortable with it, Ken can do work without meter. You can start fighting from the jump. Since you weren’t doing that, you were missing out on controlling the pace and then missing out on damage you could get on offense. Gotta keep in mind to that time you spend beating an opponent down less time they get to build meter. Against Chun, Akuma and other characters that’s important. Yun’s bar is hella short (which is one of the reasons he is S tier), so this matter a bit less against him.
I got a few empty jump parries and its probably going to be a matter of time before I can fully parry HP DP. It’s going to work for now and it’ll teach me not to be a dunce. It won’t necessarily work long term though. Against Tubbs and me, where we’re playing at a relatively low level, it’s fine. But as people get more comfortable parrying things, that’s just going to be risky. You sort of want to vary your anti airs between st. jabs, DPs and other things.
What else…oh yeah, I’m not letting you walk away fro free next time. You wanna hold back and run away from situations, I already know I’m going to find ways to punish that next time. Walk back sweep is also not great and punishable by a lot of top tier supers (at least Ken’s and Chun’s). So if I walk forward and block, you’re eating a free super. Similarly, ending blockstrings in a regular hadou is a terrible idea. You can reversal super the fuck out of all that nonsense.
Walk up throw is fake. All those throws midscreen not happening again next time. There’s 6 frames of throw invincibility. Later on they worked less because I just trusted you were going to do something slow and goofy whenever you just waked up to me. Sometimes you just have to wake up and hit a button, walk up delay a button etc. You have to teach me to be afraid of a meaty before you can guarantee 6 frames of no movement from the opponent.
Let’s see…EX fireballs knockdown. cr.mk xx EX fireball so you can knock me down and take advantage of the situation is really solid with Ken.
Same thing as Beekmeer, walking back doesn’t mean walking entirely away. Walking back a few pixels is often enough. You don’t have to disengage entirely.
GGs, we’ll run it again after I wash up Hawkingbird.
Who’s the gay character in Endgame?
A dude talking with captain america on the sessions he runs to help civilians after the snap.
Is a scene so small, but it was made into a big deal because the MCU finally had an openly gay char.
IIRC the director was the actor doing the gay man, and said he was proud about, but i could be wrong on that, it could have been a producer or another executive from the production.
Nah, you were right about it with one of the Russo brothers playing him.
Oh that guy? I thought you meant one of the heroes not some throwaway background character
