The Good But Generally Bad Police Thread

If an officer approaches you, and you reach into your pants and grab a gun that looks real. The officer is justified in shooting you because you are causing him to have a reasonable fear for his life. The grand jury did not charge him because the video showed that the officers actions were justified.

I feel terrible that Tamir’s family lost their son. It’s a tragedy and there are no winners in this.

That incident is so cut and dry. There is no ambiguity. That kid was waving around a realistic looking weapon, pointing it at random people and the cops.

I’ve had a gun pulled on me and I’ve been at shot at before. It’s fucking scary. That kid made a huge, stupid mistake and he paid for it.

This is true, but I strongly feel that if the officers had followed protocol Tamir would be alive today and for that reason they need to face some sort of charges.

What protocol did they not follow?

This link outlines some of their failings http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2014/12/how_police_are_trained_to_deal.html

The tactics discussed in that link are textbook tactics. Thing is that we don’t live in a textbook. In real life there are so many variables in a dangerous situation that you can’t always take a cookie cutter approach.

For example, the link says that an officer should command a perp to put the weapon down before shooting. What the article doesn’t mention is that the exception to the rule is that if there is an imminent threat to the officer, an officer can shoot the person holding the weapon.

In the Tamir Rice situation, Tamir reached for his fake gun which looked very real, as a police officer you are justified in shooting because Tamirs actions created a situation where any reasonable person would believe that their life is in danger because of a perceived imminent threat.

We need the wtf button back in here holy shit.

I am, actually.

This took place in Hawaii in 1932. This is what happened when a Navy admiral, affluent military family, military police, local police, and politicians fucked up so hard at the expense of the general public…

You aren’t getting it, they put themselves in imminent threat because they did not follow protocol!

when doctors don’t follow textbook protocol they go to jail

YOu can kindly shut the fuck up about this

The issue isn’t whether or not Tamir reached for the gun, but why the officer drove right up to someone he suspected of being armed. What was the officer’s intent in driving up to Tamir? Based on the video, it was either to shoot him or shoot him in two seconds.

I dont know who this young brotha is, and while i dont agree with his demeanor much, this is bullshit. You gonna call the cops on a man because he withdrew his own fucking money from his account, and then after the cops put him in handcuffs and embarrassed him, they took 100k of his 200k to say theyre doing an investigation on, aka, you just got robbed by the police under some bullshit asset seizure nonsense.

As a cop, i wouldnt have even done that, because youre ROBBING THE MAN FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, WHICH IS BASICALLY YOURE ROBBING HIM FOR THE BANKS.

Ugh, this grown ass man has such horrible grammar. Shows his level of intellect. Why so angry over some shit that doesnt even involve you directly. I love how he cannot tolerate anyone with a different opinion, and rather than articulating the difficulties of handling that call, you just call the dead childs mother a stupid bitch, and tell people to “unfriendly” you.

I’ve stated my opinion on the case, and while i believe there is fault to be had in tamir’s parents, i wouldnt be a police officer publicly calling her a stupid bitch. The fact of the matter is they ran up on tamir and shot him before giving him a chance to respond, and unfortunately there really isnt much legal basis to fault them on. At least nothing on the level of manslaughter or murder. Maybe negligence.

While i think tamir’s death was easily preventable, i understand why some may be frustrated with the responsibility of the parents to ensure their kids arent out and about playing with toy guns that look real, and pointing them at people.

Can we be adults and discuss this without telling people to shut up?

With that being said, I have experience in the emergency medical services field. I’ve treated hundreds if not thousands of people in emergency situations (and countless life threatening situations). A medical professional is allowed to stray from protocol if he can articulate a valid reason for doing so. Your statement is invalid.

If this officer broke any departmental rules in the event of the shooting, I can assure you that he will be charged by his department.

WOW, remember that m.d officer that put the gun to that dudes head for parking illegally. HE GOT 5 YEARS. HOLD DAT SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
