If this is the link you’re using, it’s still generally twice the number of whites to blacks. I think the per capita thing is a funny way of trying to prove a point when the crime stats show blacks committing more crime on average than whites. If it really were ONLY racism, these numbers wouldn’t even be comparable. But unfortunately, while blacks are more likely to get stopped, whites get killed in larger numbers, so it’s affecting all of us in some way, which is why if things are going to change, we really to come together on this and tell the powers that be that shit needs to be done.
You want to talk about “half truths” when you’re waving away easily proven stats that tell a tale you don’t like? Word?
I’m not arguing with anyone, just saying that this stuff isn’t happening in a vacuum, and it sucks for ALL OF US because we’re ALL getting the worst end of it.
Got my Charger R/T new in 2006. Three days in got pulled over for doing 45 in a 45. The cop literally said they wanted to make sure that I wasn’t doing anything suspicious.

Sorry, Dodge Charger R/T. It’s one of the four trim packages for the first generation of the Dodge Charger. 5.7L V8 HEMI.

It means he got a real Charger and not the V6

I had the 2013 RT until someone decided they needed it more than me. Cops didn’t help then either lol

Way to completely miss my point entirely. As I said, NO ONE should get murdered by the police. You seem to be completely dismissing my point. It’s more likely to happen to me. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen to you. People, typically, focus on things that are most likely to happen first. If that’s what it takes for police reform to happen. Then so be it. If police reform happens, if bad cops can actually be fired and not get their jobs back, if there are more stringent requirements to become a police officer, and there isn’ t just the usual lip service until people move on to the next thing. Such changes will help everyone.
TLDR: No one should be murdered by the police. Reforming the police department benefits everyone.

I’ve never denied that you are more likely to get killed by police then me. Never made that argument.
I’ve only ever argued my white skin doesn’t protect me from the cops and I get clap back on that regularly.

I never understood why someone would buy that car with anything other than a v8. At the time it was pretty much a $5K difference.
MO POWAH BAYBEE!
The public needs to have an honest dialogue about what police mean to their community and how they should be used.

Police officers are called to handle situations that they shouldn’t be asked to deal with. This isn’t fair to them nor the people they are being called to help in those situations. That contributes to some of the issues that are occurring.

I sit on a local committee for community leadership. That’s a discussion I am trying to work on now. One of the failures of these “community talks” between the police is that they are missing one vital component. It’s often the legislators or the administration for their jurisdiction. You need those people in the room too. You don’t have all the power players talking to each other at the same time.

Wellness Checks are the first thing that comes to mind. Someone with mental help training should be handing those as we’ve seen frequently, Police aren’t equipped to de-escalate those situations.

They aren’t equipped to handle these situations due to training and the laws in place.
Oftimes there are no means to help those in mental distress due to their refusal of assistance and court orders being needed to take any kind of action. So officers can A, lock em up or B, take to the hospital where they’ll discharge them self. In attempting to do either the situation escalated for no reason.
Wellness checks really sucked. Either it was shitty family members who couldn’t be bothered to actually help or they were trying to force police to do something about it.
Wellness checks were usually elderly that passed or individuals with mental health troubles that basically say fuck you, I don’t need your help, go away.
Really makes the situation more fucked when family pull the they’re a danger to themself and others card. This screws the C option of just leave.

The ACLU Mobile Justice App records video then sends the video to the ACLU as soon as you stop recording. Not sure if this is the best option out there. Only available in a limited number of states due to differing laws.

I had a discussion with a lefty buddy of mine this past week whose wife is a social worker and we were talking about sending mental health workers in to deal with, say, homeless people. I asked him point blank, “How would you feel about your tiny 5’2” wife being sent in to deal with an aggressive homeless guy?" and he didn’t really have an answer for me.
I also have a buddy who’s on the force here in Nashville whos told me that they end up dealing with a lot of people who are hooked on stuff, who have serious mental health issues but don’t want help, and who just end up being vagrancy cases most of the time and there’s really not much they can do for them.
I’m wondering how sending the mental health people in works. Do they have firearm training? Are they equipped to de with aggressive people? I keep hearing this “send in mental health professionals” but not much more than that.

They need to have specialists within the department with masters in psychology or social work

There are usually a few officers or so with the training or individuals that aren’t police go with an officer as back up cause shit can go south.
Problem ends up being there aren’t enough of these specialists to handle every situation in a 24 hour period. Hell I remember days where there was 1-3 specialists on duty for the day to handle multiple counties. I remember days where there were none at all and you gotta just wing it.
