"The Gen Bible" - Should we do it?

If you want to make Gen look easy, when you reach the 1f link cr.lp>st.hp
Suggest the yeb advice of pressing hp+mk to make TC2 come out easy.

Good idea. I’m more or less certain the xx > Hands section is going to be huge. That’s all I’ve ascertained for now.

I am waiting for the prototype

Ok, I’m a fairly poor player with an interest in Gen.
I’ve been laid off recently so I have plenty of free time on my hands and would love to see this come together.
I have experience working with PDF’s and am pretty good at scouring for info

This week I’m going to jump into normals and specials if anyone would like to contribute info or point me to a great source please do so
otherwise I’ll be writing from what I find in this thread. I’ll be using a format knocked off the rindoukan bible.

street11 if you could send me that hitbox and frame data that would be awesome.

and huggy I’m not sure if you’ve dropped this project but if you send me what you had so far that would be awesome,
If you want to work with me that would be even better

Sorry to hear about ur lay off, never a good news. Been there before in some sort, I pray u get back on top as soon as possible. As for info, just keep it simple no need to go too specific, especially with shenanigans, I believe a compact guide will be in order. I believe u will find all d info you will need in the threads.

Haha, I’ve not dropped it. I’ve just had to set it back so I can get this University Assignment out of the way first.

May I help?

Where the heck have u been all this time?

well i’m more playing a mind game based Gen, and my exec is still shitty but as all the Gen players are a familly and as i’m pissed off to see over 9000 guides on ryu and nothing on Gen i’m supporting this the maximum i can

We are assassins.

I’ll do whatever I can to assist with this.

btw we all know that every player makes a different Gen. So do you think you can put in this bible a part reserved to the players with the most experience on the character on how they see the character in the game, on how they use it and play it with their mind?

I don’t really think that’s necessary. The idea behind the Bible, or at least in my opinion, is to give players new to Gen and old alike a consolidated document that covers him fundamentally i.e frame traps, mixups, safe jumps, option selects and general match-up run downs.

If the top Gen’s happen to give their input and I would hope they do, I’d rather them just drop down some matchup knowledge; you can watch videos of them playing to understand how they approach Gen.

I think if its well edited/written it should just be about 50 pages

Been taking a break from SF4 and some what from games altogether. Personally the bible needs to be broken down into a few sections. The main section or main goal should be to provide 100% accurate information that have nothing to do with play styles, opinions on how the character should be played. That section should explain facts about Gen. Example would be showing and explaining how to perform hands. Showing step by step how to do different methods to perform this special move.

Then there should be a section that focuses on things like footsies, spacing, option selects, unblockables, and setups. Maybe some, most or all of this section could be included with specific match-ups, who knows.

Followed by match-up information that is accurate and not dumb stuff like “if you play vs Abel do Oga over and over” I’d suggest having that information presented to everyone for them to review and sign off on that data before it’s entered.

Then last have a section providing information and tactics for different style Gens. Like explaining the pros and cons for each play style like if they benefit players who use stick compared to pad players. or what style is suited for a Gen player who has really good reactions, compared to someone with not so good reactions but good combo execution. That section would be totally opinion based, giving the reader a chance to make a choice on what style they believe fits them best.

Also just to throw this out there. If we do follow through with this idea, I would like to take the role of putting it all together and editing it to look like a actual manual/book. I could make it look clean and professional, adding graphics etc. Not sure how many of you remember or saw my Gen combo video, but I could do a lot better and would like to take on that task.

As long as it’s easily understandable that’s all that matters to me. I checked the unblockables chart and you REALLY need a keen eye and a good memory. It doesn’t even explain which Oga to do. Which angle? Infact a whole section on oga would be nice. it’s very underused and the cornerstone of his wakeup game at high level. I hope this guide does actually get done…

Unblockables or Oga crossup chart? If its the Oga Crossup chart all the data needed on what strength to use.

I don’t agree with you that Oga is an integral part of his wakeup/knockdown game at high level though.

I believe it depends on how long a set is and much it’s put to use. If it’s just here and there, I believe it becomes more potent.

Man… that’s kinda depressing. But I guess that’s how it goes if you’re a master and also evil. ^^'
And that will be incorporated into the bible how? ;D
