Considering how many options would be left out because of the easy and super easy commands, I’m not worried about it.
Did anyone notice that the gems are numbered? As long as you have a note or something with you, this definitely speeds up the process of selecting gems at tournaments.
I think we all assumed DLC gems would be a lot better because what other incentive is there to buy them. And they are. The DLC versions of some default gems come with easier activation conditions, no negative secondary effects, or better boost percentages. So, I think it’s safe to say those’ll be banned in tournaments.
So weird that they don’t tell your opponent the activation conditions of your gems before your match starts, what a terrible choice, from a tournament and a casual perspective. Nobody likes not knowing what they’re fighting against, whether they’re taking it seriously or not. For tournaments, I guess someone will have to make a spreadsheet of all the gems, their effects, and their conditions, and then everyone will have to print that out and carry it with them to tournaments. Or someone will have to make a smart phone app for the same thing. Yay.
Happy to hear that you can play without gems if you want, might be more hope for a competitive game without them.
Edit: And about these easy/super easy input gems, sounds like they’ll be bad competitively, but I still don’t get them. Who are they made for? Who knows enough about this game or is willing to look into it enough to know that there are such gems and how to use them, but doesn’t know or isn’t willing to find out how to do a fireball? How many people can that possibly represent?
Edit again: I like how auto throw tech gem only techs throws when you’re not blocking. Aka, it’s totally useless. Oh, a game mechanic you wanted in but didn’t know how to balance without making it unusably bad? I see. Hey, pandora mode. Hey, cross assault.
Not to generalize, but I think that if someone sacrifices a gem slot for easy inputs, then that says a lot about their skill level. I think Capcom’s goal is to expand their audience. Beginners can have fun playing other beginners without worrying about the restrictions of the input motions and have their matches look more solid. More advanced players won’t even bother with the easy input gems because they’re missing out on the other gems.
well offline this doesn’t seem like an issue…but rather online people have to deal with these DLC Gem shenanigans, i mean i can deal with a 40% damage tiger uppercut…yeah you know from that boost gem that activates when you crossover counter…but it gets far worse if you look at some of those DLC ones…and day 1 online~ that will be a nightmare…i think for everyone…pro’s and scrubs alike…
I agree completely. But I’d much rather be saying “This mechanic is useless, why would they even put it in?” rather than “This mechanic is broken. Now everyone is going to use and abuse it.”
Like a friend of mine, who loves games, and comics, bought Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and a day later traded it in saying “Its too hard”. While only playing the computer.
i like how he says pandora is useless…when there is tech in now it can be used effectively, and Cross Assault was OP in old builds…i wonder why they toned it down >_>’ but its ok Desk will make the sickest Combo Videos with it so thats fine…
+40% meter gain when the partner connects with a launcher.
this way it’s 100% not wasted time (abc, launcher, gem activates => connecting further).
the auto tech gem for 1/2 bars seems quite okay aswell, considering that you never, ever have to think about teching again, thus blocking any high/low game without the need to crouch/block tech, resulting in way less hitting frametraps. imo a good defense gem.
depending if you can combo, pandora, combo further another possible thing one could do is to hit the opponent when he’s about ~50%, activate pandora, pandora gem dmg +30% and pandora gem -40% meter usage and good night.
Why don’t we wait for the game to come out. I can see gems being fun. I will let my opp get throw techs for a bar of meter if I get 30% damage and 20 % speed boost. Who knows might be unplayable competitively but it might sort of sort it self out.
It is not uncommon to see pre-order DLC show up latter. As paid DLC on PSN and XBL. More often then not you see it anywhere between 1 week to 1 month. After the game is launched. But people do tend to get angry. When the pre-order bonuses are made available to soon.
There are games with exclusive pre-order only DLC. But when it comes to Capcom or at least there fighters. It always seems like the DLC content shows up eventually. For everyone to buy.
