Yeah, I was aware it has a really small tank. Wife wants to get one to commute to work. 100MPG is just too good. Yeah, it is bare bones transprotation, but for a daily commute, that shit is excellent. If it rains or something, you can just ride your regular car to work. The one she is looking at tops out at like 65MPh or so, so it isnt too slow–good enough for city driving. I mean, if she has a 10 mile commute, that’s 10 trips to work for $3.70–enough for two weeks. MOst other cars, youll be lucky if you get 3 or 4 trips out of that same gallon.
did you know that you might have to get a special liscence to drive it since it goes that fast RIGHT???
hahaha…

Since I know people are loving $4/gallon gas (btw, $4.19 at the Mobil today), I guess I should let you know what the future probably holds.

Hirsch says $12-$15/gallon in a few years. Enjoy!

we’re doomed, good thing i’m going car free in a month
There’s no way in hell anyone would allow gas to get the rediculously high unless there was nothing that could be done. I figured gas would hit 4 bucks eventually but 12-15 buck in a few years? GTFO with that.
I read a good article today (I cant find it anywhere now) that talked about how life would change if/when gas goes up to $10 a gallon. First off they predict most people would have plug in hybrids by then, and electric companies say that they can handle 86% of the population plugging in their cars at night (they would start utilizing solar and wind energy). They also talked about the death of plastic, and that metal and glass containers would make a comeback. They talked about how recycling would reach levels like they have in japan (somewhere between 75-90%), and that ultimately, we would find new ways to make public transportation accessible to people across the country.
Bikes, roller blades, skateboards would be booming, people would struggle more than ever to stay alive due to starvation, taxis would be almost non-existant and only for the rich, pizza delivery would be extinct. There was more things but I cant recall all of them.
If I find the article ill put it up.
No shit. Oil companies would start drilling into the US’s vast oil reserves that are “protected” by environmentalist liberal hippie types long before it got that bad.
Fuck the spotted owl.
I think it’s funny how everyone blames the oil companies for the prices. I’m sure they would have no problem opening up oil refineries or drilling for oil on US shores, but uncle sam won’t let them.
If there’s anyone one to blame, it’s the fucking government.
Gas went from 3.99 to 3.96 in my area .
12-15 bucks… well our pay rate an economy better be up to that level…
Since this is a gas thread, I may as well ask a question that’s been bothering me for quite some time. What is the point of “plus” gas? It seems to me that people either get regular or premium. Is 89 octane really worth 10 or so cents extra over 87?
Also, I paid $4.09 for regular at the station near my house. Maybe I shouldn’t buy that GTO I’ve been eying. :shake:
Its funny…I awhile back like 4 years ago my mom had a Ford Bronco and that was when gas was starting to go over the 2 bucks a gallon. She was paying around 50 bucks or so to fill up and then by the end of the year she was paying 65 to fill up.
Fast Forward to now and I own a Honda Civic and i’m paying close to 50 bucks. Ain’t that a bitch. Thing is I love this car too much to trade it in for a Hybrid.
It’s going to be the end of Suburbia, imo. Anyone else watch that documentary?
You’re suppose to use what your car manufactuer recommends (engine is tuned to it). I honestly don’t know why there is a mid-tier grade since your car either takes 87 or premium…maybe mid-tier if you don’t want premium and don’t petal the metal with your car?
The reason for the grades is that different engines require different amounts of octane (the numbers). For most purposes 87 is good enough. It is standard. When you get higher end engines, usually with higher compression, you need something with more octane such as mid grade or high grade (you can use race fuel if you want, but that is just silly). Essentailly, the octane count prevents detonation in the engine. So:
87–run of the mill cars
89–cars with higher compression (generally)
91–sually highly modded cars or cars with REALLY high copmpression/turbos/superchargers
Of course, it is a bit of overkill to put some 91 in a car that requires just 87. It doesnt affect hteperformance of the car. Some people claim it does. Usually, though, that is due to the fact that the higher grades contain a lot more detergents in it than the cheaper stuff, so it technically clean out your system.
4.08 now around my town…im hitting half a tank so im screwed sooner or later.
To think this post was only 2 years old…
$3.96 here…
Welcome to denmark where it’s 7.8$/Gallon these days
Just put gas in my car. $4.33…
