Well, define ‘record setting’. Because from what I understand, oil companies are still making the same percentage of profits; but since the price has gone up so high, of course they’re making more from a strictly monetary standpoint.
It’s like if an apple is 10 bucks and I get 1 percent profit off the sale, I just made a dollar. But if the price of the apple rises to 100 bucks, now I’m making 10 bucks - even though I haven’t really increased profits one way or the other. So even if I have nothing to do with the price of the apple, you can still whip up some good ol’ fashioned mob fury by saying “look! he’s making over 10 times the profit that he used to, while the prices have gone through the room!”
I’m still trying to rig up my Honda to run on love. No luck so far.
I seriously feel sorry for some of you guys. Around here gas is $3.29 for unleaded and I thought that sucked. I can’t imagine paying $4+ per gallon, although that may change fairly soon.
Driving down the “five” from north cal to so cal this weekend, my first sighting of $4.00 for 87.
of course, the gas prices along the freeways are higher and hearing all the talk of “$4.00 a gallon” the past couple of years, seeing that in reality is scary. I’m glad my wife didn’t get the V-6 version of her new car.
Some of us don’t have much of an option. Does it look like a 300+IB 6’6 black dude could fit in a corolla?
On top of that there are some people who actually need the space for their work/family - everyone takes those things for granted, just because there is only one or two people typically in their car and they use it purely for their own transportation - that everyone else is like that.
The truth hurts - there is no real solution. Alternatives fuels conceptually are a JOKE yes I’ve studied this in school - you’ll never be able to retro-fit the existing vehicles, people don’t ahve the money to just up and buy a new car…the price of gas is directly attached to the economy…in which we don’t ahve the money, and retro-fitting franchised gas-stations? Good fucking luck. Using Ethynal is a joke in itself, it lowers the cost of gas ‘a tiny bit’…but most vehicles lose about 10% of their mileage on fuel with eythanol in it. So its just watering down everything - not a real improvement…but wait! Its raising the cost of corn to use…in essence its actually worse. Hybrid cars are no different. They are worse for the environment - they aren’t really green, and the premium cost you pay for the small ass car actually more than offsets the cost of saved gas. Unless Toytoa dropped the price - a Prius used to run for like 27k, you could get a corlla for 10k less - roughly the same size, easier to maintain, lower cost of insurance, and during the life span of both vehicles, the cost of the corolla will never catch up with the prius - not even including the cost of dealer only maintenance on the Prius.
And riding public transit is hardly cheaper as they are all raising their prices to deal with the crunch. Yeah I’m painting a gim picture but its the truth, everyone warned us of this in the Captain Planet days, but everyone wanted to harp on his Mullet instead of the truth. All we can do at this point is look at ways of organically growing our own crude oil…the bacteria method is my current fav, but I question the output capacity and speed.
The only bio fuel worth looking into from my humble, inexperienced perspective is algae, because it can be grown anywhere without having to give up agricultural or residential land and it grows fast, so supplies can quickly adjust to demand. It’s pretty much win if we can find a way to efficiently produce and transport it.
Regular - 3.73 - what i use
Midgrade - 3.83
Premium - 3.93
Orange County, southern california. Oh its hurting alright! and i drive a ford truck (v6). Filling it up is about $80. Going to Los Angeles (an hour north) and coming back is $20. I average about $80 a week. Thats about $320 a month! and its suppose to hit $5 this summer?
False, cars are designed for a person up to the height of 6’3, anyone taller than that has issues in most cars.
So get the fuck out of here with that shit. Your dodging my point…the smaller ‘more efficient’ cars just don’t work for bigger people wether it is weight or height related. My head sticks out the fucking roof of a celica. My knees don’t fit in a Scion tC. My knees don’t even fit in an xB.
Will is a huge guy. His frame is huge. He isn’t fat, so it’s not like it’s something he can control. He’s built like shaq. So you fail on trying to be funny. Dumb fuck.
um yeah… gas is 3.60. literally heard someone cussing out the pump yesterday… im just staring like the pump cant fight back… an I officially saw 4.30 in the “rich area” of germantown/rockville"… amazing.
The amount of nickel used in hybrid cars is rediculous. The mining process for that nickel consumes more gasoline than a normal car would in it’s lifetime.
Yes you have increased your profit because the relative demand is higher. Even though the percentage is the same, it’s the equivalent of selling 10 times the amount you were selling prior which definitely increases profit. Unless the population starts buying 1/10 of the gas it was buying before, you’ve gained a significant monetary increase.
