THE GAS THREAD- News, Prices, and Feelings (5+ years in the making)

thumbs up to that statement

It’s pretty obvious Bush doesn’t give a shit about the economy. Where the hell do they get the money for the rebate check anyway? Aren’t we ten trillion dollars in debt ? Since gas prices are going to shoot up this summer I think more people won’t be traveling as much, but then again I could be wrong.

classic cnn vs bush moment about a month ago

reporter: sir have u heard reports there will be $4 dollar gas by the summer

bush: really??? i haven’t heard of that…

reporter: …

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I noticed that California and Hawaii gas prices are always the worst of all.

My future means of transport.

Screw that, I needed to drop 1200 on my Credit Cards…

I agree with you though, cause what I did didn’t help the economy AT ALL!

Paying off credit cards is actually the best thing you can do to help the economy (long-term). By paying them off, or cutting them down drastically, you’re paying less in interest per month, resulting in more being paid toward the capital or you just pocketing it. Either way, that’s more money in your pocket that you will eventually spend on consumer products. Smart man.

I use credits cards as a convenience.

This is a paperless world, paperless economy. I prefer not to use cash, carry around change, counting the bills, etc. The credit card is used to pay for it fast, track my spending, and collect points. When each monthly statement is paid off by the balance, it ends up being more beneficial in all those aspects. What is also a trick some people like to do, is whenever going out to lunch with the folks at the office, the person that picks up the check by paying with the credit card gets a couple benefits: The FREE points from all the meals of everyone else, and a “free trip to the ATM machine” from all the cash that everyone gives you at the table. A credit card is also good to use for anything else covered by a business expense report, since you eventually get reimbursed for the expenses like traveling, meals, car rental, etc., and using the credit card in effect, gets you free points from all that.

The credit card should not be used to buy something expensive to pay in segments with interest. I never like interest because with interest, it’s like the salesman fucked me. On the opposite end, it’s the same reason why I prefer to pay for a car entirely in cash upon purchase (somewhat fucking the salesman on his overall commission heh heh heh…)

Once I get all my CC’s down, that is all I am going to use, pay them off monthly and rep the rewards (especially AMEX). My wife is doing that now, and has like 46,000 points.

do you realize how small a ‘dent’ it would be to help out gas prices? Like do people realize how MUCH money per day is spent on gas? What would YOU rather have - 600 bux in your pocket or about 35 bux worth of free gas because all the truckers and heavy diesel users used so much gas in comparison to your mode of transport that thats all the equivalent you actualy saw in your wallet?

Get the Bush hate out of here. I don’t like the man but everything aint his fault, and every solution aint perfect. No matter what he says someone else will flip it. I’m sorry - aren’t gas companies Big business too? Couldn’t that money be given to GM/Ford to push their Fuel Cell technology for greener cars faster than over seas? Could that money be simply SAVED towards our national debt - sounds like they are just giving the US a larger credit card bill. Could the money be spent on fueling methods of ending ‘Dat War’? Everyone has their own way they think the money would be best used. If you think it should go to gas? Fucking fine then - spend your 600-1200 on gas. Its that simple. Should last you a month or so…alot longer than the half a day that same amount of money would cheapen the cost of gas which would get gouged away anyway.

Moral of the story: slow down on the highway, it’ll save you $$$.

Compared to European countries, yes. Compared to our normal national standard for the past 40 years, no.

i do 55 mofuckas and get around 45mpg

Screw that, I do 80 MPH and get 30 miles to the gallon…

Here’s a gas tip I’ve been thinking about.

Buy gas giftcards from online bst sellers. Usually they sell at 10,15% off.

Oh I guess you guys were serious about the topic after all. Well if you’re in socal, City of Garden Grove iirc has the lowest gas in Orange County, combine that with rebate programs by companies like Shell, and Chevron and you’d shave off a good 10 percent. Plus Priceclub/Cosco has their own gas stations too, something to look out for. If you’re military(especially with seabees), when you shop over 50 at px always ask if they do that gas rebate program which nets you 5% off.

$3.55 for 87 octane, down .04 from Monday at least

I want to get a message to Morgan Spurlock of Super Size Me, 30 Days and Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? fame to tell him about my idea for a new documentary on oil prices. Someone should follow the chain, from the gas station sales clerk to the top oil execs and Middle Eastern sheiks, and ask them why their gas and oil prices have been set so high. My bet is that the suits wouldn’t even talk to you and you wouldn’t be able to get within an atmosphere of a Mid East oil baron. But it would be very interesting to try it. If I was a documentary film maker and had access to the resources to pull it of, I most certainly would. I guess Michael Moore could do it too, but he’s no where near as cool as Spurlock.
