On a sidenote, just watched the first episode. Pretty good. Tyrion getting mad t&a, Daenerysā thick ass and incest whattt??? Production looks really well done, acting is pretty good. Iām loving it so far.

its a low magic fantasy setting, kind of like LOTR. magic appears rarely and infrequently.
Iām holding off on watching this series until I can finish the first book. Iām hearing from friends that the first episode was quite good, although the transition from book to TV series was understandably shaky.
I was so pissed off at that point of the book, I told my wife I wouldnāt finish reading unless she told me if Bran survives.
Great telling of the books from what I saw. Everyone pretty much looked like I imagined them too. I thought Winterfell would be more woodsier, but other than that itās awesome.
Itās not super-fantasy - like LotR, but they introduce some dragons much later on. And zombies. >:)
Honestly I thought Tyrion would be uglier. Like smeagolish lol. I think Cat is a bit fugly as well. Cersei, Dany, Ned and Robert look exactly how I imagined them.

Friend of mine begged me to read the books but I never got around to it. Definitely going to give them a try. Only a few episodes in and Iām hooked.

itās got a lot of fantasy elements (dragons, undead creatures) but theyāre actually rather muted
The magical elements are really low key, in fact most of the characters donāt believe in magic or that dragons ever even existed, to them itās mostly legend and shit. You arenāt going to see wizards throwing fireballs and stuff like that; you will see a lot of people getting their shit wrecked in swordfights though.
Itās a lot more focused on political wheeling and dealing, battles, shifting strategies, etc. Itās loosely inspired by the Wars of the Roses that took place in England where Lancaster and York fought over the British crown
That said, it is, at the end, a fantasy series, and the fantasy elements are crucial to the story (The Others, the Wall, the dragons) so those things will come up.
