your opinion on anything to do with fantasy is invalid from here on out. To actually comopare sot with mbotf , and go so far as to say it’s worse is rediculous. then you’re most anticipated book of the year is a popcorn flick book , when brust’s book’s have come out, rothfuss’s have come out, abercrombie’s has come out, and bakker’s is due, is just awful. I hope you’re trolling.
Malazan is goofier than SoT. Erikson wanted to make everyone a badass. It was ok in earlier books, but as it went on and more characters were introduced it got sillier and sillier. Shit, try to make a tier list and you should see what I mean. But that, and the fact that the books badly needed additional editing are really my only criticisms of the series.
SoT is terrible, and the series only had one decent book (which was book five or six?), and even that was terrible and preachy. It was goofy as shit (new things constantly being introduced, main character being also being whatever new thing was introduced) and basically just a platform for him to spout objectivism.
Abercrombie I’ll get back to someday.
Rothfuss is ok. The second book was ok.
Bakker is too preachy. I bought all three of the warrior-prince books, and I quit sometime during book 3. He loves his theories and ideas, which is cool, but he enjoys them more than he enjoys his world or his characters.
Brust, fuck Brust. I liked the books when I read them however many fucking years ago I started (ten? eleven?) and then stopped when I couldn’t find anymore. I’m not reading a 19-book series started thirty years ago that is on book 13 when they aren’t written in chronological order.
Me and some friends always argue which series is better: Wheel of Time or Ice and Fire? Now that this book has been out, what do you guys think???
I JUST started watching. I’m on episode 3 right now. I really like where that blonde girl’s character is heading. The one married to that “savage” dude.
never read wheel of time, there was too much magic for me in Erikson’s books and i didn’t really enjoy his pacing or character development. i didn’t care about anyone in those books at all, so i gave up after the first one
rothfuss’ most recent book was a letdown, although leagues ahead of feast and dance. it had similar issues to dance though - just not enough actual plot progression and too much serial novel shit. i still liked it, however, although the way rothfuss writes women makes me cringe, they’re always so awesome and badass and tough and unrealistically cool. kind of similar to how he writes kvothe, who i’m losing interest in as well.
maybe i’m just getting old and grumpy
Stay the fuck out of this thread and don’t read anything until you finish season 1.
WoT got pretty bad.
Women love Rothfuss, which is why he is so popular.
aaaaaaaaaaa i’m on page 500 and its just dragging on
i liked feast for crows better because i hate cersei and was glad to see her portrayed as an idiot
jon snow acting like a boss on page 110 was awesome, but now all he does is talk. ok i get it, situation on the wall is shitty, cool, you’ve already talked about how shitty its been for dozens and dozens of pages, do we need all this filler? can something happen now please???
and dany’s chapters are equally bad. ok i get it, situation in meereen is awful. you can’t control your pets, you got terrorists in your city, and everyone else is massing huge armies to kill you. but all she does is talk. ENOUGH TALKING. she sometimes gets horny, but even then, there is no epic george rr martin sex scene. cause i gotta hand it to the guy, that fat old pervert knows how to write dirty.
tyrions chapters are also mostly talking, but he’s my favorite character, and he’s witty, so that’s forgivable.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa so frustrated.
Gonna give this show a shot! I never heard of it before and skipped this thread but someone told me about it and so I hope I didn’t sleep too long on it!
finished.
Holy shit.
last episode
Spoiler
I was expecting it, but awesome to finally see the Dragons come. I’m really looking forward Snow’s adventures in the north as well as whatever happens to the youngest sister.
Reading Storm of Swords. Fuck the Freys. I want Bran to come back like Tamerlane jr. and make a pyramid of their heads.
ok finally finished. yeah too much filler, the book finally started getting exciting toward the last 100-200 pages or so, and then it ended. maximum gay. he could have stripped out most of the chapters in the book which were redundant and combined them instead. i don’t need to read multiple chapters about how screwed over jon and dany are. i get it. dany did make some pretty bad calls but she’s not as dumb as feast for crows cersei.
not really sure what the point of frog’s story arc was either or why he needed entire POV chapters. the body count in this book was pretty high though, so that’s good. mostly minor characters except that whole et tu brute caesar scene toward the end. lulz.
anyway now that i’ve read feast and dance, i don’t see why they couldn’t have been one book. cut a bunch of dialog, POV, and all the travelling scenes (I dislike LOTR because I feel it was one big nature walk, and dance with dragons felt like that at times) and BOOM you have a more interesting book.
dance
[details=Spoiler]Quentyn’s chapters were fucking stupid and they made dany seem even more stupid. Your first serious emissary from Westeros, the heir to a MAJOR noble house, promising you troops and support - and you dismiss him with giggles, lust after one of his knights briefly, then go to a marriage with some dude who has absolutely no benefit outside of this random shitty town in bumfuck essos. (it’s like martin forgot how his characters felt during the 11 years it took to get this far. Remember Dany being adamant about being the rightful heir to Westeros? now it’s all jokes to her)
His death also totally ruins the entirety of the Dorne plotline from Feast. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that Dance actually made Feast worse by ruining this cool moment:
"She narrowed her eyes. “What is our heart’s desire?”
“Vengeance.” His voice was soft, as if he were afraid that someone might be listening. “Justice.” Prince Doran pressed the onyx dragon into her palm with his swollen gouty fingers and whispered, "Fire and blood."
…“WHOOPS NEVERMIND LOL, sent worthless douchenozzle overseas who gets himself killed and ruins my intricate, well-laid plan in four chapters”[/details]
^^^^ :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
Reminds me of the video game series Elder Scrolls. =D Love it!
well thanks to your guys’ reviews and some reviews i read on amazon i said fuck it and gave up on dance with dragons. a feast for crows was so horrible i couldn’t let myself invest another 700 pages into dragons so i just read some spoilers and summaries on wikipedia. i don’t think i missed too much. i gotta say the series started out so well but by the near end i completely lost interest. there were too many stories going on, and worst of all, no conclusions to the stories i cared most about. i’ll keep watching the show to see how they pull it off but the series has definitely lost some of its awesomeness for me.
Ive finished ASoS yesterday, might be my fav book so far.
I’m just amazed at how quick I finished it, like in 10 days (pretty quick to me for a book that thick)…
I think I’m taking a break from reading this series, its been messing with my sleep patterns lol
The baby dragons… epic
Sounds like the perfect time to start the next two books.
ASoS has been pretty hard for me to get through. I freaking love the book, but I know RW is coming
