Didn’t Rhaegar best Sir Arthur Dayne in single combat before? I can’t see a warrior of that caliber losing to Robert in a straight up battle.
Rhaegar was the heir apparent and won in tournies, constantly applauded by everyone, Robert was a bred warrior who was raised in the arts of badassery and burned the world after a dude ran off with his bitch, if somebody took some easy wins… meh. Just cause he was played a fat jovial dude in the show, cant take away from the fact the guy was a legend.

For anyone who read the books: what is the age discrepancy between Jon and Robb? They look like they were about the same age in the show.
They are about the same age. They were born in the same year 283 AC.

i don’t buy the fight. Not the 1 v 5 part. But the fact that this guy easily dismantles these scrubs 1 v 5, but somehow magically loses all his situational awareness to get hit by a backstab? Arthur Dayne can not be flanked by 5 guys who have him surrounded, but the enemy rogue manages to get in a sneak attack? No fucking way, dude got robbed.
This was almost as bad as the Mountain doing a wakeup ultra shinyuken with 1 pixel of life left in a desperate scrub hope that it would work on his superior opponent C Viper. By some miracle it did and then he comboed into crouching fierce XX juggernaut head crush super which was total bullshit.
I hope Bran uses his new time cop powers to go back in time to tell Oberyn not to be a dumbass.

Can someone confirm, Dayne is supposed to be top tier right? Like if he had been there to fight Robert Baratheon, the usurper would’ve gotten rekt. Haven’t read books in a while, would like a tier list
Arthur Dayne probably wasn’t stabbed in the back in the books but was caught in a net or hit with a poisoned dart by Howland Reed. Howland Reed is a swamp ninja after all, no way would he have fought Dayne head on, despite the number advantage. It’s more likely Howland played the role of Trap Assassin laying snares in the background while the rest of Ned’s team tanked Dayne’s attacks.
Dayne is top tier. I believe Jamie (in the books) says that Dayne and Barristan Semly are the best he’s seen.
Barristan was a Beast when he was younger.
There were plenty of witnesses. Rhaegar straight up got his ass beat.
Dayne is top tier. Everything from the books suggest he is the top 3 swordsman any of the contemporary characters have ever seen.
Wait until the 6 book drops for the “real” happenings of the tower of joy.
There are a bunch of “top tier” guys in cannon, but Dayne was cream of the crop of those who could have still been alive during the game of thrones (Duncan the tall, ryagars uncle, others who were suggested to be the greatest swordsman but from writing from meisters so therefore nothing verifiable.)
I feel HBO is short of dropping the stick. But that could be fanboy nonsense and this season could turn out fine ( for the record I thought season 3 and 5 on HBO were both better than the book counterparts).
