You got a video link instead?
EDIT:
Speaking of which, the Beebs got a new docu out on the early, deadly years of F1.

No, this site is invite only, and I can’t advertise through forums.
I wish Lewis Hamilton was a McLaren F1 in Cars 2 and not an MP4-12C.
Sepang’s up next…why is it that Hermann Tilke’s tracks typically produce boring races? Aren’t they made with overtaking in mind?
Because Tilke’s idea of encouraging overtaking is to add really slow corners at the end of really straight straights. What he needs to do is design a wide track that allows for multiple racing lines to allow for overtaking.
They are made with no real driver input, and he has a deal with Bernie. Turkey I liked especially for MotoGP, but the rest of the Tilke tracks are great for taking a nap. When he draws it up, it might look like some good overtaking, but it hasn’t happened that way.
Could also be risk vs. reward.
with him designing the Austin track, i really hope it isn’t a boring track. I like the idea of going uphill for the first corner.
@dayday, i’m sure you’ll agree that F1 at Laguna would be amazing. however, I believe FIA has stated they have no intention of having a race there since it’s in such a remote location. I love Laguna. it’s layout makes it easy to see almost the entire track from the top of the hill, and with the monitors you can see the rest of the track.
F1 at Laguna would be awesome. Imagine the cars roaring down the Corkscrew!
tv footage, pictures, and video games can’t even begin to convey the awesomeness that is the Corkscrew! seeing bikes pop wheelies as they shift from left to right, American LeMans cars overtake, and cars drift through the Corkscrew in person is jaw dropping. I can’t even begin to imagine how amazing seeing an F1 car pass someone through that corner would be.
Personally, my favorite track designer is still John Hugenholtz, if only for the fact that he did Suzuka (one of my favorite circuits). Zolder is a decent track as well.
Personally, the only person alive who should voice a McLaren F1 is Mika Hakkinen (only because Senna is no longer with us, and even if he were).
The MP4-12C fits Lewis. It’s a new generation McLaren road car for a new generation McLaren driver. That, and it’s an amazing car in its own right, partly because it has an automated version of the “brake steer” system from the 1997 MP4/12 F1 car.
Laguna Seca is too short and narrow for F1, IndyCar/CART outgrew it a long time ago. F1 cars would do sub minute laps. I live 10 minutes from Laguna Seca and it is not in a remote location like some think, but it doesn’t have the infrastructure around it for a F1 sized crowd. The paddock area isn’t very big either, I don’t think the garages would work for F1. It is 1hour south of San Jose, and has an airport 5 minutes from it. Monterey is a huge tourist area, it isn’t remote at all. I go to the MotoGP race there every year, and the first 2 years were fucking horrible with traffic getting out of there and that is 70,000 people.
They finally have the parking/crowd situation down now. Like I said I live 10 minutes from the track, and it took over 3 hours to get home.
It is a great track and one of my favorites whenever it is in a videogame, been to the track maybe 50 times for various events.
This was a shit F1 car, with no setup burning around the track.

I would love for them to make the track longer somehow, and have f1 in my backyard.
You can zoom out and see exactly where it is located, right in between Salinas & Monterey. In the San Francisco Bay are Media Market, which is 6th in the U.S. in population, plus a 1 hour flight from L.A.
Plenty of land around it to lengthen, but that would be so much fucking red tape.:annoy:
Length shouldn’t be that big an issue. We have some tracks that are just about as short - Brazil is around 1.16, heck Donington Park (where the British GP was supposed to move back to before the backers went into administration) is possibly shorter.
Brazil & Donington are both longer than Laguna Seca, that is all Bernie needs to say to keep it off the calendar. The U.S. Government ain’t going to pay Bernie to bring the race to USA, the local government will not either unlike Brazil. Bernie added Donington after 1.They gave him a ton of cash to switch from Silverstone, 2.He made them invest millions to upgrade the facilities, something Laguna Seca is not going to do.
Donington is privately owned and the affluent people will pitch in to be part of it.
Laguna Seca is a Public Park owned by the county, tax payers ain’t going to want their tax raised for a once a year event. Most people in the area, are oblivious to Laguna Seca’s existence, I kid you not. I have always known about it because my dad was in a Datsun 240z car club when I was a kid, and they had meetups there. 99.99% of the population in the area doesn’t know who Sebastian Vettel is and he is the current champ.
Brazil has current drivers, plus a corrupt government to keep the country interested and pay the fee. There are no American drivers and the last one we sent fucking sucked.
There is plenty of reasons it will not happen at Laguna Seca, 30 million of em per year.
I always thought Barber Motorsports Park should be where the USGP is held. Because then I don’t have to drive 10+ hours either way to see the race!
Get hyped for this weekend. West Coast needs to stay up till 1am to watch it live.
Hoping for Petrov to place high, to see Shumi complete a lap (I kid) and have an actual fight for 1st place.
Wonder how the tires will fair on this weekend’s track.
So did they ever explain in detail why Mark Webbers KERS wasn’t working during the race?
And for people watching the BBC coverage what are your thoughts on Brundle/Coulthard commentary, I like it quite a bit.
Donington in it’s current configuration is around 500m shorter than Laguna.
The rest of those reasons are valid. Doesn’t stop me, and a few other folks from wanting to the F1 on it.
If we just considered the track itself and not finances and facilities, Road America should be the #1 candidate for F1 in America. It’s high-speed, with lots of elevation changes - it’s like the USA’s rendition of Spa-Francorchamps. And it’s 4 miles long, certainly enough to satisfy Mr. Ecclestone.
It even has AMERICA in the track name.
Personally, I’d like to see a return to Watkins Glen. That, or see F1 machines torture tested in a night race at Sebring - imagine a 3 way high speed battle at turn 17 between a RedBull, McLaren and a Renault.
