Yeah but every football game in South Africa has the horns, not just world cup games. They’ve been doing that shit for years. Why should they change just because outsiders find it annoying? If some foreigners told us some of our pro sports habits were annoying and to please stop we would tell them to go fuck themselves. Fuck themselves right in their asses.
Imagine this scenario: South Africa gets a baseball team together and enters the World Baseball Classic. They come to America to play a few games and then go: “Please stop serving beer at baseball games. It causes your fans to get loud and rude. We know it’s part of your culture, but it’s an inconvenience to us.”
i hate those horns. they are annoying even just watching on tv.
Man korea played like shit. Like really bad…losing control of the ball, bad passes…like wtf. They kind of just metally fell apart after that guy barely missed the net.
Look if you have a party, you don’t just play the music you like to listen to, you play things which suit the guests you have, if there are adults with kids you wouldn’t play music with lots of swearing in etc. As a host you’re supposed to make your guests feel welcome and satisfied. If many nations complained against the habits of America during some world event I would expect America to make a compromise so the guests are not displeased.
It’s courteous behaviour. The horns itself don’t bother me it’s the fact that it is mindless, there is no rhythm to it, just full blast for 90 minutes.
Whats funny about this is that you make the assumption that it’s only south africians playing it, you watch anytime the camera pans through the crowd, pretty much every person is carrying one!
The stadium announcer at the Mexico France game is EXACTLY like the SSF4 announcer, THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME.
Vuvuzela chatter
[details=Spoiler]On a side note the horns are an extremely new feature of south african football, they’re just over a year old, we could easily be talking about a fad here. They can also be played PROPERLY with rhythm and melody, they can support singing. This is suited to typically smaller crowds of south african league games and becomes a completely different beast at massive games. Its generally arrivistes making a pointless din.
Hopefully we’re seeing a change with tonight’s game of them being part of the crowd noise rather than dominating it. Obviously I don’t mind the South Africans doing whatever they can to make it uncomfortable for opponents during their games. Other nations though have great singing/instrumental crowd noise like Mexico, Germany and Ghana. I love that clash of musical cultures at a game. When I can hear them.[/details]
